Chapter 226 Be Patient
Reporters bombarded her with questions, each one harsher than the last. They really had no filter, speaking without a care.
Brooklyn's heart turned cold. Facing the cameras, she knew her reputation and marriage were on the line, and she was completely alone.
She had to handle it herself.
She smiled gently, showing grace despite her fierce eyes. "My husband and I's matters are none of your business."
"Dr. Mitchell, an insider says you stole Mrs. Kingsley's identity from Miss Megan."
Brooklyn leaned into the mic. "Who is this insider? Bring them here to confront me."
The reporters exchanged glances. "Dr. Mitchell, there are rumors about your chaotic private life and secret meetings with a stranger at the hospital at night."
'What a memory!'
She stayed calm. "Do you know the consequences of defamation? Is your job worth more than your freedom?"
Nearby doctors were amazed at how calm she was with the reporters. Her presence screamed she was Mrs. Kingsley.
"Dr. Mitchell, it's true Megan knew Mr. Kingsley first. How do you explain that?"
Brooklyn frowned, disgusted by their privacy invasion. Her severe need for privacy made her want to vomit.
She pushed through the crowd, pulling out her phone. "Security!"
The reporters kept pressing. "Dr. Mitchell, please answer."
Hearing Brooklyn was surrounded, Zach left the emergency room to help her. He wouldn't let her face the reporters alone.
"Dr. Carter!" Piper ran over as soon as she got off the elevator. "Thank goodness you're here!"
Zach frowned. "Dr. Rivera, what are you doing here?"
He rolled up his stethoscope, stuffing it into his pocket before goin for the stairs, thinking only of Brooklyn. She couldn't face the reporters again!
"Where are you going, Dr. Carter?" Piper grabbed his wrist, trying to hold him back.
Zach glared at her hand. "Dr. Rivera, let go."
She bit her lip, looking at him with determination. "Are you going to help Dr. Mitchell again, like last time?"
He frowned, his brows furrowing. "If you know, then let go."
He strode to the elevator and pressed 4. However, Piper blocked him. "No! This will only complicate things!"
"You and Brooklyn were once rumored to be involved. If you go now, it'll look like you're the third party between her and Sebastian. You'll hurt both of you!"
Zach's gentle gaze turned angry. He kept his cool but was clearly impatient. "Dr. Rivera, my affairs are none of your business. Move."
"Are you willing to ruin yourself for her? Do you know who Sebastian is? If rumors spread, it won't just end your career; there will be serious consequences!"
She was desperate to stop him.
He looked down at her, firmly saying, "If it's for Brooklyn, then I don't care."
He stepped into the elevator. 'If I could take this on for her, what did my career matter? So what if I was disgraced?'
He didn't want to see her cry; especially not for Sebastian.
Zach stepped out on the fourth floor, seeing the hallway blocked. He saw Sebastian holding Brooklyn with one arm.
"Mr. Kingsley, are you saying you've always only loved Dr. Mitchell?"
Sebastian held her tightly, supporting her. When he heard the news, he rushed to the hospital to drive the reporters out.
However, he knew that wouldn't help, so he chose to face it with Brooklyn.
Brooklyn looked at Sebastian's face. His determined gaze and protective stance were strong and fierce.
"That's right, the only woman I love is Brooklyn." his hand slid down and gripped her hand tightly, interlocking their fingers.
"But Megan is pregnant with your child. Reporters saw you taking her to the hospital for a checkup. How do you explain that?"
'Yes, how would I explain that?' Brooklyn thought.
She was troubled. No matter what Sebastian said, there would be loopholes. This was an unsolvable issue, destined for one side to bear the responsibility.
She wanted to speak, but Sebastian stopped her.
He coldly said to the reporters, "If you want to know the answer, just be patient and wait."
