Chapter 287 Sebastian Saved Megan

The man in black was gone, leaving only Brooklyn, Kelly, and Megan in the vast villa, trapped by the fire, with flames licking at their heels. The air’s thick with nasty smoke, making it hard to breathe without hacking up a lung.

“I’m gonna find water. Cover your mouth and nose. Don’t pass out from the smoke, and for God’s sake, don’t cry! Crying just makes you suck in more smoke, and you’ll croak!” Brooklyn snapped into action, while Kelly and Megan just sat there on the couch, totally freaked out.

“Get off the couch! That thing’s gonna go up in flames. You wanna die with it?” Brooklyn yelled. Kelly and Megan scrambled off the sofa, panic written all over their faces. The fire was spreading like crazy, and the front door was not an option, blocked by flames.

“Get to the corner! If you wanna live, do what I say!” Brooklyn shouted, suddenly noticing Megan was still tied up. She dropped to her knees, “Megan, give me your hands!”

Brooklyn tried to untie the ropes, but they were too tight. “Hold on!” She grabbed a half-burned stick, “Close your eyes! I’m burning these ropes off!”

Megan freaked, “Are you trying to burn me alive?”

“Shut up. If I wanted you dead, I’d toss you into the fire myself!” Brooklyn shot back.

Megan squeezed her eyes shut, and Brooklyn carefully burned through the knots. The ropes finally gave way, and Brooklyn’s hands were blistered, but Megan was free.

“Untie your legs and get to the corner!” Brooklyn barked, then dashed off to find water. As she fought through the smoke and flames, she thought, ‘I’m ready to die, but if I can save these two, maybe I’ll get a better spot in hell.’

Sebastian’s car screeched to a halt when he saw the villa engulfed in flames.

“Brooklyn!” he screamed, jumping out of the car.

Brooklyn lay on the floor, barely able to move. Her lungs were full of smoke, and she was fading fast.

‘Am I dying? Why would I hear his voice?’ she wondered.

Zach’s car pulled up, and he and Sebastian charged into the fire, no hesitation.

“Brooklyn!” they yelled together.

Their fear and rage mixed with the fire, driving them both to the brink of madness.

The chandelier crashed down, and the ceiling was caving in fast.

“Brooklyn! Brooklyn!” Sebastian shouted.

“Brooklyn! Can you hear me? Where are you?” Zach called out.

‘Why can I hear Sebastian and Zach? God must be kind, letting me hear the voices of the two men I care about most before I die,’ Brooklyn thought.

Sebastian stumbled upon Megan huddled in the corner, thinking, 'What the hell is she doing here? How did this even happen?'

"Megan!" He vaulted over the burning sofa and storage rack, his tall frame rushing to her side. She was out cold, with burns marring her face. "Megan! Wake up! Come on, wake up!"

No response.

Kelly peeked out from the corner, hacking up a storm, "Sebastian, save Brooklyn."

Sebastian glanced at the unconscious Megan, "Ms. Wilson, get up and come with me!"

'I wish,' Kelly thought.

"Save Brooklyn," she pleaded, stretching out a soot-covered hand.

"Someone's on it. Don't worry."

'I won't be at ease until I see Brooklyn rescued,' Kelly thought, watching Sebastian carry Megan away, his silhouette fading into the chaos.

Brooklyn was curled up under a metal rack, her eyelids getting heavy. Before she blacked out, she saw a distant figure and heard Sebastian's last shout, thinking, 'Megan, the last name he calls is Megan. The person he saves is Megan. He doesn't come to save me.' Her eyes closed, and she passed out.

"Brooklyn! Brooklyn!" Zach yanked away the beam pinning her down, scooping her up in his arms, "Brooklyn! Stay with me, I'm getting you out."

Brooklyn drowsily saw a face, its features blurred, "Sebastian, you came?"

Zach's back stiffened, and he saw a tear roll down Brooklyn's cheek, his own tears following.

He carried her out without a word.

Kelly lay in a cop's arms, blinking hard, "Am I dead?"

The young officer shook his head, "You're not dead."

Hearing that, Kelly fainted with relief.

The villa's ceiling finally gave way, burying the living room. The fire turned the sky blood-red, smoke billowing endlessly.

Aucester Hospital, emergency room.

"Hurry! This one's pregnant!"

Everyone was so covered in soot, and it was hard to recognize each. No one knew if the person brought in was Megan or Brooklyn.

No one had time to figure out if it was Sebastian or Zach, either.

Reporters were held back at the hospital entrance, only able to give a brief report on the fire.

Sebastian and Zach sat outside the emergency room, their tall figures now in tattered clothes, hair a mess, looking utterly wrecked.

Zach wiped the soot from his face, "Looks like you do have some feelings for Ms. Turner."

Sebastian shot him a lazy look, "What are you getting at?"

Zach coughed harshly, the smoke in his lungs catching up to him, "You saved Ms. Turner, not Brooklyn."
