Chapter 336 Couldn't Find Brooklyn
Zach and Quinn spent the whole day searching at the bottom of the cliff, but all they found were some clothes and shoes.
How could they not find Brooklyn?
At the edge of the cliff, a roaring waterfall hung in suspense, leaving the two dumbfounded. The currents were fierce, and during a storm, they’d be even worse.
Could it be...
Their anxiety grew. The setting sun cast long shadows as they stood there, speechless, just staring at the waterfall.
If Brooklyn got swept into the ocean, finding her would be impossible.
The wind whipped their hair around and dried their sweat-soaked clothes. The silence was deafening, and the darkness felt like the end of the world.
After the heavy rain, Jabari quickly became hot and stuffy, but their fingertips were icy cold, and they felt frozen to the core.
Quinn clutched Brooklyn's clothes and shoes, while Zach held onto a key tightly.
Quinn's eyes stung with tears. He turned away to wipe them off. "I just can't wrap my head around Brooklyn being gone!"
Zach closed his eyes, pressing the key to his chest. "I can't bring myself to accept it either, Mr. Kingsley."
Quinn's tears wouldn't stop. He squatted on the ground, sobbing. "Why! Why!"
Zach's silent tears felt like they were draining the warmth from his body. He felt like ice, his knees weak, and he finally knelt on one knee on the hard rock. His tears splashed onto the stone, echoing in the stillness.
'If something really happened to Brooklyn, I'd rather stay here with her,' Zach thought.
They searched until sunset, fading into obscurity as darkness descended. Stars dotted the dark blue sky, their light as feeble as a flickering candle.
"Let's head back up. We need more folks to help us search. It's too much for just the two of us, and we can't check below the waterfall." Zach pulled Quinn up from the ground. "Now's not the time to cry, get up!"
Quinn shook off his hand. "I'm freaking miserable, okay?!"
They got back to shore and reported what they found, asking to talk to Sebastian about what to do next.
Dario stopped them. "You can't tell Mr. Sebastian Kingsley anything right now. His heart wound reopened, and he's in critical condition. More doctors are on their way from Aucester. Until he's stable, he can't handle any more stress."
Quinn ran his fingers through his hair, frustrated. "Brooklyn and Sebastian are both really unlucky."
Dario glanced at Zach and leaned in. "Mr. Carter, I'll all in with Mrs. Kingsley's situation. The search and rescue team is assembling, and the embassy in Malawa has rallied all resources. We'll kick off a thorough search real soon. You just say the word if you need anything specific."
Zach nodded, taking a deep breath. He was pushing through with all he had, even though he didn't want to admit it.
"Is Sebastian awake?" Quinn asked, wiping away his tears. His eyes were swollen, and his face was scratched from branches and wild grass.
"No." Dario's two words were slow but still powerful.
Quinn's mouth formed a straight line. He kicked a stone on the ground, feeling angry, furious, and crazy, but none of these emotions could cover the heartache!
'Why does my heart hurt so much? It's just Brooklyn, right? That acid-tongued, arrogant woman! The foolish woman who always causes trouble for herself and others! Why do I feel this heartache? But I can't help it; it hurts so much I can hardly breathe!' Quinn thought.
Piper gently supported Zach and said softly, "I know you're not in the mood to listen right now, but if you want to save her, you need to take care of yourself first. You just climbed such a high cliff, and now you're exhausted. You need to rest."
Zach weakly pushed her hand away, his voice cold and distant. "Go away."
Piper's eyes narrowed slightly, a cold light hidden within, and after a long time, a murderous intent burst forth.
Jenny whispered, "Dr. Rivera, don't worry. It's handled."
Piper nodded slightly. "Good."
Throughout the night and day, the search and rescue team combed through the valley, traversing the waterfall and scouring the miles of the nearby beach.
They only found her other shoe on the beach, and nothing else.
The coastal search lasted three days and nights, with thousands of divers searching for twelve hours in the water, but they still didn't find Brooklyn.
