Chapter 102 Albert's Probe
Albert was floored.
If the girl from back then was Yvette, it would explain why the pendant was engraved with "YO."
He held his breath, trying to remember her face, but he couldn't recall a thing.
Albert usually had a great memory, but that moment seemed lost forever.
That summer, his family went through a major upheaval, making it one of the toughest times in his life. The doctor said his brain had activated a protective mechanism to make him forget that extremely painful period.
And in that painful time, the only girl who brought him warmth was also forgotten.
It wasn't until the necklace reappeared that he had fragmented memories.
Thinking about how Violet had brought him warmth, yet he had completely forgotten her and didn't recognize her after being in the same class for so long, he felt guilty and treated Violet even better.
But what if he had mistaken the person from the start?
Albert's broad, strong back slightly hunched, his head lowered, and the shadows of his thick eyelashes cast on his lower eyelids.
His mind began to piece together and speculate wildly.
What if not only did he fail to recognize the girl from back then, but he also gave the kindness meant for her to someone else because of a necklace?
What if that person happened to be Yvette?
This thought made his body tremble, and an indescribable complex emotion instantly overwhelmed him.
That night, Albert didn't remember what he dreamed about, only that it was filled with thick darkness, and he couldn't see anything. It felt like an invisible hand was choking him, making it impossible to even call for help.
Around five in the morning, Albert's alarm clock woke him from the nightmare.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he sat up abruptly, gasping for breath, his pupils dilated, and a fine layer of sweat covered his forehead, soaking his clothes.
He had a flight scheduled in the morning, but he wasn't in the right state for it.
Albert made a quick decision and called Victor to take his shift for the day.
Albert got up, took a shower, and drove to the medical examination center.
Yvette arrived with breakfast in hand. It was still a while before work started, so she had time to enjoy her breakfast.
As she was about to walk in, she looked up and met a pair of deep eyes, bloodshot from a sleepless night, making them look a bit eerie.
Yvette was taken aback and instinctively checked the time.
She was astonished. Why would Albert be here at this hour?
Yvette glanced at the time on her phone and said flatly, "It's past seven; shouldn't you have a flight now?"
Upon hearing this, Albert gave her a meaningful look. "Did you check the system?"
Yvette's expression immediately became more guarded. "Yes, I saw it while verifying your medical records."
"Alright."
It was still early, with few colleagues around, but the security guards were already there, deliberately passing by them and giving Yvette knowing looks, making her feel a bit helpless.
She pressed her lips together. "Do you need something from me?"
"Yes."
"Then come to my office."
Yvette walked past Albert and headed straight to her office. Albert said nothing, silently following behind.
She seemed to have gained a bit of weight recently, looking more well-proportioned from behind.
Yvette sat down at her desk with her breakfast, acting like nothing had happened, and started unpacking her meal. Without looking up, she said, "What do you want to say?"
Albert kept his head down, his expression unreadable.
In a low voice, he asked, "I don't think I've ever asked, where are you from?"
Yvette paused, the plastic bag in her hand making an unpleasant sound as she squeezed it.
"I'm from Luken."
"I mean, where's your hometown? Where did you go to junior high school?"
Albert sat across from Yvette, separated by the desk, yet she could still feel his eager gaze.
Seeing Yvette continue to eat her breakfast without answering, Albert straightened his back slightly and continued, "My grandmother lived in a village in the countryside. I used to visit there."
Yvette swallowed her food and slowly looked up, her eyes calm. She asked, "Are you trying to ask if I knew you before?"
Albert raised an eyebrow, waiting for Yvette to continue.
Yvette took a tissue and gently wiped her mouth. "Victor also asked me. He mentioned something about a necklace, but I didn't really understand. Anyway, you don't need to waste your time on me. I've lived in Luken all my life." Yvette smiled. "But we did know each other before."
Albert's jaw tightened slightly. "When did you know me?"
Yvette replied, "We went to the same high school."
Albert looked skeptical, but Yvette pretended not to notice. "If you don't have anything else, I need to get to work. I'll throw away the trash and see you out."
Yvette's intention to dismiss him was too obvious. Albert sat in his chair, looking up at Yvette for a while.
Feeling his gaze, Yvette also looked down, meeting his eyes calmly. The air seemed to pause for a few seconds.
Her expression was too calm, with no hint of deceit.
It seemed like she was telling the truth.
Albert slowly stood up, tidying his clothes slowly.
"Go ahead and work. I'll take out the trash for you."
Albert took the trash from her hand and left Yvette's office, closing the door behind him.
As the door closed, a flicker of unresolvable sadness flashed in Albert's eyes.
He lowered his head, a self-mocking smile on his lips.
How did he start hoping that the girl from back then was Yvette?
After Albert left, Yvette sat at her desk for a long time. She opened a drawer, looked at the resignation letter inside, and finally took it out.
The weather was great today, giving Yvette a bit of encouragement and confidence.
She took the resignation letter and knocked on the director's office door.
The director greeted Yvette with a smile, but his expression changed when he saw the envelope in her hand.
Before Yvette could speak, the director asked, "Are you still planning to resign?"
"Yes, Director." Yvette's eyes were firm as she handed over the resignation letter. "This is my well-considered decision. I hope you can approve it."
The director frowned, looking seriously at Yvette. "Yvette, I remember your husband is Mr. Albert Valdemar from our company, right?"
Yvette was momentarily stunned. She was not used to mentioning Albert at work.
She lowered her eyes and admitted, "Yes."
"Wouldn't it be better for both of you to work at North Airlines?" The director asked hopefully. "Have you discussed this with him? Does he agree with you leaving North Airlines?"
Yvette smiled. "This is my own.business"
