Chapter 198 I Respect Grandpa's Decision

Percy's words hit like a bombshell, leaving everyone in the room speechless. For a moment, it felt like time just stopped. Everyone was staring at Percy, totally floored and dead silent.

Percy took in their rapidly changing expressions and grim faces. He smiled calmly, like he saw this coming a mile away. The only thing that threw him off was Albert's reaction.

Albert's face was blank, with just a hint of confusion in his eyes. Mostly, he looked surprised. There was none of the excitement one'd expect from someone inheriting a massive fortune.

Mario was the first to snap out of it. He looked up at Percy, his face dark. "Is this really Hayden's will? Did anyone mess with it? Did you and Albert know each other before?!"

Percy gave him a look. "This is his will, signed when he was fully aware, witnessed by me, some of his trusted aides, and professional notaries. The whole thing was recorded on video and audio, so there's no doubt it's legit."

Hearing this, everyone's faces got even darker. This meant Hayden had planned this all along and had firmly chosen Albert to get the biggest chunk of the Valdemar Group's stock.

Mario glared at Albert but didn't know how to question him. Hayden had barely seen Albert when he was alive. Both times they met, there were other people around, so Albert had no chance to mess with Hayden's will. So what was the deal?

Everyone was just as puzzled as Mario. They looked at each other, full of doubts but not sure where to start their objections.

Seeing everyone at a loss for words, Percy smiled. "Looks like everyone gets Mr. Hayden Valdemar's inheritance plan now. I'll lead a team to help you all with the procedures."

Percy turned to Albert. "However, everyone has the right to renounce their inheritance. This is reasonable and legal, a personal right. Mr. Albert Valdemar, do you want to renounce your inheritance?"

Albert pursed his lips and glanced at the other members of the Valdemar family. Everyone looked at him eagerly, with various expressions, but all hoping he'd renounce the inheritance.

Albert raised an eyebrow and asked, "If I renounce it, how will the inheritance be handled?"

Percy replied, "It will be redistributed according to the order of succession." Several uncles instantly perked up, all looking at Albert expectantly.

Albert remembered David had said that if he didn't want the inheritance his grandpa left him, it would go to the other members of the Valdemar family. Albert smirked and said, "I respect grandpa's decision."

The room instantly erupted. Everyone looked at Albert angrily and started accusing him.

"Albert, you always acted all high and mighty, like you didn't care about Hayden's wealth. Why do you want it now?"

"Have you been pretending all along? Did you know from the start that Hayden would leave you an inheritance, so you were always so diligent?"

"You..."

Someone else was about to accuse Albert when David finally couldn't hold back and spoke up.

David's usual gentle demeanor was gone, replaced by a stern look. Standing next to Albert, the resemblance between them was even more striking. "Please respect Grandpa's decision."

David took a deep breath. His words were calm, but his tone was heavy. Albert turned to look at David, noticing the restraint in his eyes, and sneered.

By noon, the sun was blazing. Lassie was lounging on a chair on the balcony, soaking up the sun, her face all scrunched up. Yvette noticed Lassie's discomfort and looked worried. "Mom, are you still feeling unwell?"

"Yeah, I am," Lassie said, shifting uncomfortably.

"Can you tell me what kind of discomfort it is? Maybe I can help."

"I don't know, I just feel off." Lassie waved her hand irritably. "Don't worry about it. I'm old, and after this accident, I've come to understand fate."

Lassie was always stubborn, and Yvette finally understood where she got her own stubbornness from. Yvette was anxious but knew talking to Lassie was pointless. She thought for a moment and called Zora.

Zora seemed to be on the road; the sound of wind came through the receiver. "Yvette, what's up?"

"Zora, did you pick up Mom's results from the hospital?" Yvette asked cautiously, glancing at Lassie and lowering her voice.

Zora hesitated. "I've been a bit busy, and the hospital is quite far, so I haven't gone yet."

"Why don't you come back first and watch Mom for me? I'll go get them now." Yvette frowned, her expression serious. "Mom is still unwell. The sooner we get the results, the sooner we can treat her and ease her discomfort."

Zora agreed, "I'm heading back now, about ten minutes away. Just wait a bit longer."

"Okay."

At the hospital.

Yvette held the receipt and found a machine that could print the results. She planned to print the results and show them to the doctor to see what the problem was. But after several attempts, the machine kept showing "No results available for collection."

Yvette tried repeatedly but still failed, so she had to turn to a medical staff member for help. The staff member took one look and waved her hand. "The results have already been collected. Consult your family."

Yvette was stunned, realizing why Zora had been so evasive. Yvette's heart tightened, instantly sensing something was wrong.

'Is Zora trying to hide Mom's test results from me?' With this suspicion, Yvette quickly returned home.

Opening the door, Yvette pretended to be nonchalant. "It seems the results aren't out yet. The machine said nothing available. I'll swing by the hospital this afternoon."

Zora's eyes flickered, and she averted her gaze, nodding. "Then I'll go. My colleague is still watching Kyle for me."

"Okay." Yvette nodded, giving Zora a meaningful look. "Thank you."

As soon as Zora left, the smile on Yvette's face disappeared. She glanced at Lassie, still sunbathing on the lounge chair, and turned into Lassie's room.

Yvette went straight to the locked drawer, fiddled with the combination lock, opened it, and took out the test report in one go.

The words on the report deeply pierced Yvette — ALS.
