Chapter 166 Switching Dance Partners
"Yvette, maybe Grandpa knew I'd be a lonely loser and wanted you to be here." David's voice had this deep, amused tone. Yvette was caught off guard and instinctively wanted to say no.
But before she could get a word out, David, reading her like a book, reassured her. "You're already here. Since Grandpa asked for you, let's just wait and see. You'll be safe with me."
Yvette looked down, realizing David just wanted to protect her. As long as he was around, no one would mess with her. She nodded, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Okay, I get it."
While they were chatting, Yvette kept feeling someone staring at her. Without even turning around, she knew it was Albert.
Feeling that intense gaze, Yvette straightened her back, trying to brush it off.
Just then, there was a noise, and everyone turned to look in the same direction.
Yvette followed their gaze and saw Hayden walking out with a cane. He was in a suit, supported by family and servants. His steps were shaky, but the solid thud of his cane was still pretty impressive.
Seeing his face, which looked a lot like both Albert and David, and the people around him, Yvette knew this had to be Hayden .
Hayden's eyes were sharp. When he saw Yvette with David and Violet with Albert, his thick eyebrows furrowed instantly. He turned and murmured something to a servant behind him.
Soon, the servants came over to Yvette and David. "Mr. Hayden Valdemar requests your presence."
Yvette instinctively looked at David, nervous, but he just gave her a reassuring smile.
David said, "Let's go, it's okay, I'm with you."
Yvette looked down and followed David towards Hayden.
The hotel was brightly lit, and all eyes were on Hayden. Naturally, the attention also fell on Yvette and Violet.
It was Yvette's first time being in the spotlight with all those fancy families checking her out. She instinctively clenched her fists.
When they reached Hayden, Yvette looked up and met Albert's cold gaze.
He stood with Violet, facing Hayden. It seemed Hayden had called all four of them over.
Hayden's custom-made cane, which looked super expensive, hit the ground heavily, and the sharp sound made Yvette flinch and look down again.
Hayden's eyes swept over their faces, his stern expression showing no hint of a smile.
He questioned in a low voice, "What's going on here? It's a family banquet. Albert, not bringing your wife, are you trying to disgrace the Valdemars?"
Albert's eyes were deep as he stared at Yvette, coldly responding to Hayden, "It's not that I didn't bring her."
Hearing this, Hayden glared at Albert, then turned to ask Yvette, "Yvette, why did you come with David today?"
Yvette shook her head. "No, I just came to see you."
David quickly jumped in, "Grandpa, I was just helping Yvette out, afraid she might get bullied, so I had her stay by my side. Now that you're here, should I leave her to you?"
"Helping out?" Hayden seemed to get it, gave David a look, signaling him to explain privately later. " Leave her to Albert!"
Hayden raised his hand and pointed, saying firmly, "You two should be together. Switch back."
