Chapter 20 Violet in Trouble

Victor: [Dr. Orlando, would you like to watch a movie with me tonight?]

Yvette never expected to receive a message from Victor while on duty.

As she saw his name in the latest message, she wondered, 'When did I give Victor my contact information?'

With her phone against her chin, she carefully recalled the time Sylvia added her as a contact on Facebook, which should have been when Victor got her contact information. Along with that memory came Sylvia and Victor's false claims about Yvette liking him.

Thinking about this, Yvette furrowed her brows in annoyance.

Victor was the person Yvette knew best, and he had the closest relationship with Albert. After all this time, if Victor didn't know about Albert and Yvette's relationship, it must be because Albert hadn't told him.

Perhaps Albert, like Yvette, didn't see this relationship as something worth mentioning, something that could end at any time.

Now that Violet knew about them, Victor would find out sooner or later, and they would meet.

Yvette thought for a moment and believed she should clarify things with him; otherwise, he would continue to misunderstand, and she would feel embarrassed.

Yvette: [I'm on duty today, and I finish at ten tomorrow morning.]
Soon after, Victor replied to her message.

Victor: [Are you free tomorrow night?]

After careful consideration, Yvette typed her response in the chat.

Yvette: [Sure, let me know the time and place.]

Victor received the message, looked down, and then showed it to Albert.

"She agreed," Victor said, feeling that Albert had been deceived, further tarnishing his impression of Yvette.

He couldn't help but say, "You still don't believe what I told you."

Albert remained silent, took the cigarette Victor had put on the table, and walked out.

Victor quickly put down his fork and followed.

Albert put the cigarette in his mouth and took out a lighter to light it, but a gust of wind made him pause.

Victor's voice was low and serious as he furrowed his brow. He revealed, "I went to the Center today and overheard Yvette and her best friend talking. Yvette said she wants a divorce from you and plans to get alimony, so she won't have to work."

He continued, "To be honest, she can't compare to Violet. Violet is the one who truly cares for you. I've seen it clearly all these years. Violet, a delicate girl, learned to fly a plane for you, even though she was so scared that she vomited and fainted several times.

She went through so much hardship just to marry you. And yet you chose Yvette in the end. Have you ever considered Violet's feelings?" Victor became increasingly upset as he spoke.

Victor added, "If Yvette were a good woman, I wouldn't be complaining like this, but she's a bad woman, and I can't stand by and watch her harm you."

The night wind blew, and the rustling of the leaves ceased.

Albert looked ahead, his thoughts inscrutable.

He asked, "She wants a divorce?"

Seeing Albert finally react, Victor immediately said, "Yes! She also said that after the divorce, she wants to rely on you to get rich and plans to take half of your property!"

Albert stood still, his golden hair, deep-set eyes, and high nose casting a shadow on his right cheek in the lamplight, making him look despondent.

"It doesn't matter," he said, stepping off the steps and casually tossing the unsmoked cigarette into the trash. "I'm leaving."

Albert drove back quietly, Victor's words replaying in his mind. Victor had compared Yvette and Violet, which left Albert with a peculiar sensation.

Subconsciously, he felt that Yvette and Violet should not be compared. Violet held immense significance to him, being a woman, he had genuinely loved, whereas Yvette seemed indescribable in a way.

Yvette didn't seem to harbor genuine affection for him; perhaps it had been his long-standing expectation. Albert dreaded women who craved physical intimacy alongside love; Yvette did not fit that mold. He should have felt at ease with her.

After all, their relationship was unlikely to last long. She should think more about herself. It was her prerogative to date Victor. Even if Victor did develop feelings for her, there was no valid reason for Albert to intervene.

Upon returning home, Albert went straight to bed, falling into a usual and undisturbed sleep.

The following day, he adhered to his routine, heading to the nearby park for a leisurely jog, taking care of property registration, and arranging for his car's maintenance before realizing it was already four in the afternoon.

The day seemed to pass by slowly. Frowning, Albert pondered briefly before deciding to drive to the harbor.

In the training center, Steve, having just finished his meal, returned with his work badge in tow, his steps light and cheerful. Today, he was in high spirits, knowing that Albert was resting, meaning there was no flying or training for him; he could simply tidy up and then head home from work.

Spotting a man in uniform seated ahead, Steve assumed it was a colleague and was about to play a little prank on him.

However, the next moment, upon hearing footsteps, the man turned around slowly—it was none other than Albert.

'Wasn't Albert supposed to be resting? Why is he working so diligently during his break?' Steve wondered.

Some trainers had quick tempers and were prone to scolding, causing flight students at the training center to instinctively fear experienced pilots.

Albert, however, was not one of those individuals. While he rarely lost his temper with students or resorted to foul language when they made mistakes, his demeanor was typically impassive.

His strict attention to detail and his ability to instill fear with just a glance made his students more anxious. His imposing presence was more intimidating than mere scolding.

"Mr. Valdemar, why are you here? I thought you were resting?" Steve thought, then boldly added, "It seems like there's no training scheduled for today."

With a brief, cold glance at Steve, Albert seemed unsure of how to respond.

At that moment, his phone rang. After a quick look, he icily pocketed it. Reading the message, Steve could sense a shift in Albert's mood.

Despite his seemingly calm exterior, his gaze fixed on the phone grew colder and distant, like the calm before a storm on the horizon.

Noticing Albert's change in demeanor, Steve felt a pang of fear, his body tense as he cautiously remarked, "I must have been mistaken. There is indeed training scheduled for today."

Albert cast a deep, abyssal gaze at Steve. After a moment's silence, he spoke in a low, ominous tone, "You weren't mistaken; there is no training today."

As Albert walked away, Steve watched, filled with increasing confusion. 'What's wrong with Mr. Valdemar?' he pondered.

On his phone screen, there was still a message from Victor.

Victor: [I've already booked a place for tonight and sent it to her. If you don't believe it, you can go and check it out yourself.]

Albert stood in the wind, opening and closing the cigarette case, and after a long time, he sent a message to Victor.

Albert: [Tell me the address.]

He didn't like Yvette; he just hated being manipulated.
