Chapter 144 Child, We Will Have in the Future

Albert stared into Lassie's bright eyes, his own gaze darkening, but his expression stayed the same.

Albert's thin lips pressed together, showing a hint of displeasure.

Lassie quickly picked up on Albert's mood and explained, "Yvette's health is fragile, and this miscarriage has really hit her hard. She needs time to recover. She's stubborn and doesn't want to stay with you, so there's not much I can do. I just want her to be comfortable."

Lassie sighed, "We've been looking at houses. The regular four-bedroom ones are small except for the master bedroom. Wayne isn't in good health, and as a couple, he needs a bigger bedroom. But I can't let Yvette stay in a tiny room, so we're thinking of getting a bigger place. Yvette's stubborn, and after fighting with you, who knows how long she'll stay at her own place."

Albert finally furrowed his brows, clearly disgusted.

He glanced at his watch; it was getting late, and he didn't want to waste more time listening to Lassie.

Albert asked in a deep voice, "How much more do you need?"

Lassie's eyes lit up, but she waved her hand. "Not much more. Just give what you can, Albert. We'll pay you back once we save up enough!"

Violet's makeup was perfect, her forehead clean with not a single stray hair. Her lips were painted with peach-colored gloss, looking very kissable.

She looked at herself in the mirror with satisfaction and adjusted her collar.

It had been a long time since she and Albert were on the same flight. She couldn't quite put into words how she felt about Albert wanting a divorce for money, but her body had already reacted.

Violet's phone rang; it was her good friend Sissy.

Violet chuckled and answered, "What's up? Why the sudden call? Did you meet a great guy on the plane?"

"No!" Sissy's tone was anxious, "I just got off the plane to buy coffee and ran into Albert with his mother-in-law!"

Hearing Albert's name from Sissy's mouth, Violet paused instinctively.

Violet was puzzled. "And then? They're getting divorced. Are you talking about his ex-mother-in-law or his future one?"

"Yvette's mom went to North Airlines causing a scene looking for Albert. It's driving everyone crazy. Whether it's the ex or future mother-in-law, it's still a mother-in-law," Sissy said impatiently, "You almost changed the subject on me. I mean, I overheard their conversation."

Violet questioned, "What did they say?"

Sissy said seriously, "His mother-in-law was borrowing money from him again. What does that mean?"

Violet was stunned. "What does it mean?"

"It means this isn't the first time her mother-in-law has borrowed money from him!" Sissy sighed, "Is Albert that easy to fool? He must have been getting scammed by Yvette and her mom all along!"

Violet didn't respond to Sissy's remark.

The plane landed smoothly, and Albert dragged his suitcase out of the airport.

Behind him, Violet called his name, "Albert!"

Albert stopped and turned to look at her.

Violet walked up to Albert, her smile bright. "What's with that look? Are you that guarded against me? We don't have to be strangers, you know!"

Albert frowned. "Do you need something?"

"No, just making small talk." Violet seemed casual but asked with a hint of meaning, "I heard from Sissy that she saw you having coffee with Yvette's mom today. How are things between you two?"

Albert replied casually, "We're fine, thanks for asking."

With that, he started to walk away.

Violet couldn't hold back and stepped in front of him. "Albert, I know you feel guilty towards Yvette right now. But does she know her mom is asking you for money? Does she approve of it? Or is she behind it?"

Albert's face showed clear displeasure. He frowned at Violet. "This is my business. You're overstepping."

Violet's throat tightened. Her attempt to warn him was seen as interference.

Before she could say anything else, Albert had already walked away with his suitcase.

Violet stood there, worriedly watching him leave.

The hospital was crowded. Yvette followed the doctor's orders, navigating through the crowd to queue at various checkpoints.

Despite resting for over a week, she still felt weak and tired after just a few steps.

Her phone suddenly rang; it was Albert.

Yvette thought for a moment before answering, "What do you want?"

"Where are you?" Albert's voice was slightly breathless, as if he were in a crowded place.

Yvette responded reluctantly, "I'm outside."

As soon as she finished speaking, the call was abruptly cut off. She was momentarily stunned, a bit confused.

But before she could react, she felt a tall figure approach, and the familiar scent caught her attention.

Yvette turned around in surprise, meeting Albert's eyes.

"What are you doing here?" Yvette's eyes widened slightly.

Albert didn't answer. Instead, he took the bag off her back and grabbed the examination orders from her hand, checking them one by one.

"All these tests require queuing. You sit here for a while."

With that, Albert led Yvette to a nearby chair. He handed her a bottle of water and then turned to leave, looking around as he walked into the crowd.

Albert was tall and had a commanding presence. Even in a crowd, Yvette could always spot him.

Seeing Albert attentively finding the various examination rooms and queuing for her, Yvette felt a bit dazed.

But the next moment, she pulled the corners of her mouth into a bitter smile.

Yvette thought, 'This is something every husband should do. Why do I feel touched just because Albert did it once?'

Yvette suppressed her smile. As their marriage was nearing its end, she might as well enjoy the privileges of being a wife.

She forced herself to accept Albert's help more comfortably and followed him to complete all the examinations.

As they walked out of the hospital, Yvette clutched the documents, silent.

Albert thought she was worried about the results and tried to comfort her. "The results will be out this afternoon. I'll come to get them for you."

"No need," Yvette shook her head. "The center gave me time off. I can come myself."

Albert insisted. "You still need to rest. I'll handle it."

Yvette pressed her lips together, too tired to argue further.

Albert glanced at her. Her lips were still pale, and her eyes were filled with unresolved sorrow. His heart felt a slight tug, and his Adam's apple bobbed.

Albert reached out, wanting to touch Yvette's hand, but pulled back halfway.

He tried to speak in a restrained, somewhat stiff tone, "We'll have more children in the future."
