Chapter 395 Their "Family of Four"

The car drove through the bustling streets, passing by brightly lit shopping malls.

Albert sat in the back seat with his arms crossed, looking out the window with an indifferent expression. His sharp features appeared even more profound in the twilight.

Albert's gaze wandered among the malls, and his thoughts flickered with the lights of the shopping centers.

Images of the two children playing and laughing in his arms until they fell asleep flashed through his mind. For some reason, a warm current flowed through his cold heart.

Albert raised his hand and gently tapped the driver's seat.

The sound was not loud, but the driver clearly received his instruction. "Mr. Valdemar, do you want to stop?"

Albert replied, "Yes."

The driver obediently slowed down and steadily parked the car by the roadside.

As he got out of the car, the air mixed with the city's scent hit him, and Albert frowned slightly but did not feel displeased.

Taking long strides, Albert walked into the brightly lit mall and headed straight for a store in the sparsely populated luxury goods section. Illuminating every corner, the store's lighting cast a soft glow around him.

He quickly walked to the children's section, his eyes scanning the various shelves.

Not knowing the children's sizes, he gave up on clothes and shoes and bought each child a set of toys suitable for their age.

As he left with the toys, Albert's peripheral vision caught sight of the bags, and he paused slightly in front of the shelf.

The sales assistant, who had been following him, keenly noticed his gaze and immediately started recommending, "Hello, sir. Are you looking for a bag? I can recommend one for you!"

Albert answered, "My wife's bag for taking the kids out is worn out."

"Are you looking for a baby bag?" The sales assistant's eyes flashed with a hint of surprise. "I thought you were buying for your girlfriend. I didn't expect you to have children! Your wife is so lucky that you noticed her bag is worn out! How about this one?"

The sales assistant enthusiastically introduced a classic baby bag from the shelf.

'She should like it, right?' Albert thought.

He said, "Wrap it up."

"Okay!" The sales assistant handed the wrapped bag to Albert.

He glanced at the toys and the bag in his hand, and a slight smile involuntarily curved his lips.

Yvette, BoBo, and CiCi should be happy to see these gifts.

Thinking of their smiling faces, Albert felt a strange sense of satisfaction.

Albert took out his phone, intending to call Yvette to ask when she would bring the kids home after meeting the "old friend," but he saw a photo sent by a bodyguard.

He saw Yvette and David playing with the kids in a restaurant's children's area. Their smiles as a "family of four" were even more joyful than he had imagined. He had thought the old friend the bodyguard mentioned was Sylvia. The gift bag in Albert's hand fell to the ground.

The sound of the impact spread, causing all the sales assistants in the store to turn their heads in surprise.

In the spacious restaurant's children's area, David played games with the kids, their laughter ringing like crisp silver bells, full of carefree joy.

Yvette stood a little distance away, her eyes revealing an unmistakable awkwardness.

BoBo and CiCi had been pulling her to play, and she had only just managed to break free.

Her gaze wandered, not wanting to look at the "harmonious father-son" scene, and her expression grew heavier.

CiCi, having fun, turned around and called out to Yvette, "Mommy, mommy, come on!"

CiCi cheerfully invited Yvette to join, but she could only shake her head slightly, forcing a smile.

Her gaze shifted, avoiding the children's expectant eyes.

It wasn't until the dinner dishes were all served that Yvette felt a sense of relief as she took the two children to wash their hands.

She hoped to finish the meal quickly, cooperate with David, and restore the children's identities to her name, ending this farce.

After washing their hands, the two children ran back to the table.

David, who had been looking at his phone, looked up and immediately put on a gentle smile.

David asked, "Darlings, Daddy will help you with your food now. Can you eat by yourselves?"

"Of course!" CiCi said proudly. "BoBo and I are always the first to finish our meals in kindergarten, and the teacher always praises us!"

David praised, "Great job!"

David was about to help the two children with their food, but Yvette had already quietly done it.

Yvette had divided the food for the two children and placed it in front of them. "Eat up. Don't talk while eating, be good."

Yvette's voice carried a faint coldness, and BoBo and CiCi looked at Yvette with some grievance before lowering their heads to eat obediently.

David glanced at Yvette. "This might be the last time I have a meal with the kids. Do you really want to take away even this little bit of time?"

"David." Yvette was a bit annoyed. "I don't have the obligation to help you play the role of a father. The children are mine, and I will take care of them."

The smile on David's face instantly disappeared. "Do you really want to say this in front of the children?"

Yvette's breathing became rapid, but under the children's slightly frightened gazes, she couldn't continue.

She took a deep breath, suppressing her surging emotions. "So I hope you can quietly finish this meal with the kids and then quickly get things done."

David said, "Okay."

Seeing that David didn't say more, Yvette felt a bit more at ease.

Throughout the meal, the two children felt the oppressive atmosphere, and their smiles faded.

Yvette felt a bit guilty, but she knew they had to endure this. They had to accept the confusion of their identities, acknowledge that David, who had raised them for over three years, was not their biological father, and return to Albert's side.

Seeing BoBo and CiCi wipe their mouths clean, Yvette lifted them off their chairs.

She turned to David. "I have all the documents with me, and the paternity test with the children. How do we proceed?"

"Don't rush." David calmly raised his wrist and glanced at his watch. He tugged at the corner of his mouth, a barely noticeable smile flashing in his eyes. "Looking at the time, we might not make it in time now."

Yvette was stunned. "Didn't you say you had everything arranged?"

David said softly, "Yes, but the children ate slowly, so we probably missed the time."

Yvette could almost feel the blood rushing to her head. Her voice carried anger. "David, did you do this on purpose? Clearly, you don't want to cooperate with me. Why blame it on the children?"
