Chapter 381 I Might Just Be Paralyzed, Not Completely Incapacitated
The door to the ward was suddenly pushed open.
Albert and Vincent immediately fell silent, looking guilty as if they had been caught doing something wrong.
When Yvette entered, she saw the expressions on their faces and felt a bit awkward. "Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you. I just forgot my phone."
Albert and Vincent exchanged a glance, a flash of panic in their eyes.
If Yvette had overheard their conversation, it would have caused a huge uproar, and even Doyle's "medical miracle" theory wouldn't have had a chance to be used.
Yvette didn't dare to meet their eyes, afraid that she might have almost discovered their business secrets.
She hurriedly found her phone on the folding bed and held it up to show them that she didn't mean to intrude. "I'll leave now, you guys continue."
After grabbing her phone, Yvette quickly left.
Albert and Vincent looked at each other with relief, both letting out a sigh.
Albert gave Vincent a dissatisfied look. "Don't cause me any trouble."
Albert's attitude was clear, and Vincent immediately understood that Albert wanted to prioritize emotions; when it came to work, he always had a plan and could afford to wait.
Vincent cleared his throat. "Alright, Mr. Valdemar, I'll tell Mr. Warren that you're busy lately and to postpone it."
Albert replied, "Okay."
As night fell, it was time for Albert to rest.
Yvette dialed the caregiver's number, and it rang several times before being answered.
"Mrs. Valdemar, I'm sorry..." The caregiver's weak voice came through the phone.
Yvette was slightly taken aback. "What's wrong with you?"
"Well, I was about to go take care of Mr. Valdemar, but I don't know what I ate, and I got acute gastroenteritis. I almost fainted in the bathroom," the caregiver said with difficulty. "I'm getting an IV at the hospital now, so I probably can't make it tonight."
"Is it that serious?" Yvette was a bit troubled. "Do you have any colleagues who can come and help?"
As soon as she said this, Yvette immediately felt Albert's gaze on her, tinged with displeasure.
Yvette knew Albert hated being touched by unfamiliar people. This male caregiver was only accepted because he had previously worked for the Valdemar Family.
But their relationship was no longer suitable for her to help him bathe.
The caregiver said, "There are, but Mr. Valdemar probably wouldn't agree."
Yvette was momentarily at a loss.
"Mrs. Valdemar, could you please help out tonight?" The caregiver's voice carried a pleading tone. "You and Mr. Valdemar are married. I know it's hard for you to take care of Mr. Valdemar, but you know his temperament..."
Yvette was a bit helpless but had to agree. "Alright, take care of yourself."
The caregiver replied, "Thank you, Mrs. Valdemar, thank you so much!"
Yvette hung up, looking a bit awkward. "The caregiver took leave, said he has gastroenteritis."
"I heard." Albert's voice was cold, clearly uncomfortable but pretending not to care. "I won't force you. If you don't want to take care of me, I won't bathe tonight."
As he spoke, Albert frowned.
With his usual cleanliness, how could he accept not bathing for a whole day?
"I didn't say I didn't want to..." Yvette hesitated.
Albert lowered his gaze. "I thought you meant it when you said you'd take care of me for life."
Albert's voice carried a hint of sadness, making Yvette's heart ache.
Of course, she meant it!
Yvette quickly reassured him. "I will take care of you. I'm just afraid I might hurt you."
"Don't make excuses, and don't force yourself." Albert turned his gaze away, irritably unbuttoning his hospital gown. "I'll do it myself."
Yvette felt his inner hurt, guilt welling up inside her, afraid she had hurt him.
Since he no longer pushed her away and was willing to accept her care and companionship, she should find ways to make him feel better, which would also help his recovery.
Yvette grabbed Albert's hand that was unbuttoning his gown and gently pushed it aside, unbuttoning it herself.
She lowered her head, her expression focused yet slightly nervous.
Albert looked down at her serious expression, feeling his heart beating restlessly in his chest.
He enjoyed Yvette's care at this moment and their current state.
Yvette unbuttoned his hospital gown, revealing his firm muscles. Her cheeks instantly flushed, her hands unsteady. As her delicate fingers brushed his skin, Albert's muscles tensed slightly, making her heart flutter.
The familiar yet unfamiliar process made the blush on Yvette's cheeks spread to her delicate neck and ears.
Albert watched Yvette's gradually reddening face, his breath filled with her faint fragrance.
She remembered something he had never forgotten.
Albert's heart raced uncontrollably, his Adam's apple bobbing, his jaw tense, afraid he couldn't restrain himself.
Sensing Yvette's hand trembling in mid-air, not continuing to undress him, Albert's gaze swept over her face with a hint of grievance.
Yvette bit her lip.
It wasn't the first time she'd seen him; their two kids were already three years old. Why be embarrassed?
Yvette's throat tightened. She bit her lip and reached to remove Albert's hospital pants.
Albert cooperated, propping himself up to make it easier for Yvette.
Yvette turned her gaze away, wetting a towel with warm water to wipe Albert's body.
The gentler her movements, the more it felt like soft feathers brushing against Albert's skin, causing a tingling sensation.
The unavoidable physiological reaction made both of them feel awkward.
Yvette turned her head, not daring to look directly, her delicate neck entirely flushed. She felt heat radiating from her entire body.
The suffocating silence solidified in the room.
To break the awkward atmosphere, Yvette forced herself to speak, "Aren't you supposed to be paralyzed? How come you still..."
But as soon as she spoke, the atmosphere in the ward became even stranger. Yvette was extremely embarrassed, not knowing how to recover.
Albert's face darkened, his expression displeased. "I might be paralyzed, but I'm not impotent."
Yvette said, "Isn't it still the lower body?"
Albert's face showed annoyance, his voice carrying a warning. "Yvette!"
