Chapter 274 Three Years Later

Three years later, in the fall, the trees lining the streets of Las Vegas had changed colors.

Under the orange-red sunset, golden leaves drifted down, giving the whole road a peaceful vibe.

David drove straight home and only saw the servant in the living room. He asked, "Has Jessica come back yet?"

The servant replied, "No. Mrs. Valdemar said during a video call with the kids that she'd be a bit late today because of work."

A hint of tenderness crossed David's face. "Where are the kids?"

The servant said, "They're sleeping upstairs."

David nodded, not wanting to disturb them. "When they wake up or when Jessica gets back, call me in the study."

"Okay."

Back in the study, David sat in his chair and rubbed his temples.

It had been three years, and Yvette still hadn't remembered who she was or what happened back then. It seemed like something had really shaken her up before the incident.

He didn't want her to recall those painful memories, but Yvette felt differently.

After coming to Stellaria, Yvette still had no memory, not even her name. Worried about her being found, David set up a fake identity for her, renaming her Jessica Valdemar, taking his last name, which Yvette fully believed.

So, Yvette lived in Stellaria as Jessica Valdemar for three years.

Due to the strict requirements for becoming a doctor, David arranged for Yvette to work at the Valdemar Group's Las Vegas branch.

He initially wanted to keep her occupied to distract her from amnesia and postpartum depression. However, within a year, her exceptional abilities made her a mid-level leader in the company.

Everything was going well, but last night, Yvette mentioned wanting to visit her hometown, Luken.

David exhaled slowly, lost in thought.

Before long, the servant knocked on the door.

"Mr. Valdemar, Mrs. Valdemar is back."

David's eyes lit up as he replied and walked back to the living room, where Yvette was bending down to take off her shoes.

The servant placed her slippers in front of her and said, "Mrs. Valdemar, welcome home."

"Thank you." Yvette smiled and glanced upstairs. "Are the kids still sleeping?"

"Yes, after the video call with you, they fell asleep and haven't woken up since."

Yvette smiled and nodded, then turned her gaze to David.

She walked up to David, looked up at him, and teased, "What's with the look? Not thrilled to have me back?"

"How could that be?" David's smile was gentle as he raised his hand to rub her head.

Yvette's beautiful eyes sparkled, her petite nose slightly upturned, exuding a lively spirit that was a stark contrast to the Yvette of three years ago.

She resembled more the Yvette who had stolen his heart in the countryside years back.

David's smile didn't reach his eyes. "Welcome back, my Jessica."

He thought, 'Welcome home, my wife, Yvette.'

Yvette went to her room and changed into comfy home clothes.

Her phone buzzed slightly; it was a work message. She replied casually but couldn't help but keep the screen on.

Because it showed her two most adorable kids.

She gently stroked their faces with her fingers, feeling a bit torn.

Yesterday, there were some issues with the project she was in charge of, and the head office had some complaints.

It seemed like because the heir of the Valdemar Group didn't get along well with David, the head office had always ignored the Stellaria branch. The sudden "complaints" had everyone on edge.

As the project leader, Yvette had to step up and fix the problem.

Coincidentally, a colleague mentioned that Albert, the heir of the head office in Luken, would be passing through Las Vegas and staying for a night, and asked if she wanted to meet him.

Strangely, Yvette felt a special connection to the name "Luken."

Even though she remembered nothing, she was sure that Luken was her hometown.

But what about the kids?

If she wanted to go back to Luken, should she take the kids with her?

And why did David oppose her idea of visiting Luken last night?

As she was thinking, there was a gentle knock on the door.

A childish voice, full of gentlemanly manners, asked, "Mommy, may I come in?"

Then, another childish voice, clear and crisp, said, "Mommy, and me too, may I?"

Yvette's heart melted as she opened the door, knelt down, and embraced the two children, saying, "Of course!"

After a while, the boy, Lester Valdemar, gently pushed her away, his face a bit red, and said with maturity, "Mommy, you can't hug boys for too long, except for Daddy."

Yvette was stunned, not yet reacting when the girl, Christina Valdemar, waved her hand. "Mommy won't hug Daddy for long either. Mommy said boys and girls are different!"

Yvette looked at them, amused and helpless.

"Why haven't you come down for dinner yet?"a gentle male voice inquired as David approached, lifting up one child in each arm.

"Weren't you going to make pastries for Mommy? Why haven't you started yet?"

David's tone was a bit stern, and Lester and Christina shrank back.

Lester said, "The nanny said we might make a mess."

David asked, "Will you?"

"Of course not!" Lester and Christina said in unison.

"Then hurry up and make pastries for Mommy."

Watching Lester and Christina being taken to the kitchen by the servant, David's eyes suddenly turned cold.

But it lasted only two seconds before he returned to his gentle demeanor.

David smiled and turned to hug Yvette, but she subtly avoided him.

"Are you mad at me?" David asked.

Yvette's smile didn't reach her eyes. "No, you're right. It's a bit naive to think I can find my memory just based on a feeling."

She shrugged. "This matter does need careful consideration."

"As long as you're not mad." David looked at her intently. "I just hope you'll take your time before jumping into anything major.

She nodded, pondered for a moment, and then said, "But I'll give it a shot to jog my memory."

A shadow crossed David's expression. "I'm lost, Jess. Ain't our life good as it is? I'm your man, we got these cute twin kiddos. Why all this fuss about your memory?"

"David." Yvette stared into his eyes. "I just wanna piece together my past and feel whole, you know?"
