Chapter 441 Yvette, Who Is That Man

Albert shot a frosty look at the man standing in front of him.

Holding CiCi's cup, Albert had no intention of sticking around and started to walk away.

Albert's indifference, acting like this whole thing was none of his business, was the last straw for Clifford.

Clifford stepped forward, blocking Albert's path. "Do you even know the crap they're saying about her? About her family, her clothes, how she's not favored?"

Clifford pressed on, "If I were her husband, I wouldn't just stand by and let her get bullied. She married you, so you need to protect her like a husband should!"

"But you're not," Albert replied icily. "Don't you think it's a bit out of line for you, as a parent of my kid's classmate, to butt into our business?"

Clifford's face was tight with barely-contained anger. "I just think that even as an outsider, it's hard to watch. Yet you, her husband, act like you don't see it."

Despite Clifford's low voice, the tension between them only grew thicker.

Albert stood his ground, chin raised defiantly. "I'll say it one more time, this is none of your business."

Albert's brows furrowed, his face showing impatience, like a dark cloud signaling an impending storm.

It was the end of the school day, and many parents were around, picking up their children from the kindergarten.

Sensing the rising tension between Albert and Clifford, the other parents quickly averted their eyes, not wanting to get involved in the confrontation.

The standoff didn't last long. Clifford wanted to say more, but Albert had no patience left.

Albert looked at Clifford with a warning look. "Sir, you're talking about my wife's family. Our family matters are none of your concern. Please respect our boundaries."

Albert sidestepped him and strode towards the kindergarten gate.

Clifford watched Albert's retreating figure, his hands clenched into fists.

From what he had heard from others, it was clear that Yvette wasn't doing well. The gossip and judgment from others must be affecting her.

As an outsider, Clifford felt a sense of pity for Yvette. But her husband, Albert, seemed completely unmoved.

He acted in such coldness; there was even less caring than that of a stranger.

Thinking about Yvette living in such an environment, still trying to stay cheerful for her two children, made Clifford's heart ache.

This wasn't how a normal marriage should be, and it certainly wasn't how a husband should act.

The car slowly merged into traffic.

Albert and Yvette sat in the back seat, with their two children between them, yet it felt like a vast desert separated them.

The only sounds in the car were the children's chatter. Albert and Yvette stared out their respective windows, watching the scenery pass by like scenes in a movie.

The silence between them was thick and confusing, like a dense fog.

Yvette didn't know what had gone wrong, only that Albert had gone to get a cup and returned with a heavy, cold aura.

She sat stiffly, her shoulders tense and back straight, as if bound by invisible chains. She could only wait in this awkward silence for time to pass.

The scenery outside flew by, and after what felt like an eternity, they finally arrived home.

The children, with their little backpacks, hopped and skipped towards the house.

Away from the suffocating space, Yvette felt a bit more at ease watching her children's innocent and lively behavior.

"Mommy, if I eat my dinner well tonight, can I have a little cake?" CiCi asked eagerly, her big, round eyes filled with hope.

Yvette replied, "The chocolate cake from yesterday?"

"Yes, yes!" CiCi's excitement grew. "That one! Can I, please?"

Yvette hesitated. "But too much cake will hurt your teeth."

"Aww..." CiCi pouted, looking disappointed. "So, does that mean no cake?"

"You can have a little," Albert interrupted their conversation. He bent down and picked CiCi up, speaking seriously. "If you finish your dinner, you can have a little bit, but not too much."

"Yay!" CiCi was thrilled, but then glanced cautiously at Yvette, worried. "But what about my teeth..."

Albert reassured her, "Don't worry, Daddy will help you brush your teeth."

"Yay!" CiCi hugged Albert's neck and planted a kiss on his cheek.

CiCi's soft, sweet-smelling lips left a mark on Albert's face.

Albert felt a stir in his heart, his expression softening.

Having a daughter felt wonderful.

Albert looked at CiCi, wishing that they were truly his children.

Night fell.

Yvette lay in bed, unable to relax.

Albert unexpectedly offered to put the kids to bed and told her to rest, but when she closed her eyes, all she could see was his unpredictable demeanor.

The door behind her opened quietly, and Yvette's back stiffened.

Before she could pretend to be asleep, Albert's cold voice broke the silence.

"Are you asleep?"

"Not yet," Yvette replied, turning to face him. "Are the kids asleep?"

"Yes, they were good tonight."

Albert adjusted his pajamas and sat on the bed, his gaze fixed on Yvette.

His deep eyes held unfathomable depths, making Yvette's heart race.

Albert asked, "Has someone been talking about you?"

Yvette was taken aback and shook her head. "I don't think so."

"Really?" Albert's eyes darkened, his presence even more intimidating in the dim light.

Yvette felt a pang of anxiety under his gaze.

The night air was cool, sending a shiver down Yvette's spine. "What kind of talk are you referring to?"

"Why is it that a stranger knows about your issues and can confront me, but I don't?" Albert's eyes were piercing, his whole being radiating intensity. "Yvette, who is that man?"

Yvette felt he was being unreasonable. She frowned at him. "I have no idea who you're talking about!"

"The man you were with at the gate."

"He's just a parent of one of the kids, someone I happened to run into. I barely know him!" Yvette was on the verge of tears. "Albert, are you doubting me again?"
