Chapter 138 Have You Had Enough of Your Act?

Albert stared at Yvette, his palms now sweaty.

"Yvette, you want a divorce?" he asked, voice hoarse and eyes bloodshot.

Yvette looked down, her smile fading. She couldn't tell if Albert was acting or genuinely shocked and heartbroken.

'But this is what he wanted,' she thought.

Yvette tapped the divorce papers, trying not to sound bitter. "It was you..."

She paused, then withdrew her hand. Technically, she had brought up the idea of divorce first. She couldn't blame Albert entirely.

"I should say, I agreed to your idea of getting a divorce," she rephrased.

Albert was confused, his mind racing. "What do you mean by saying you 'also' signed the papers?" he asked.

Yvette pointed to the agreement. "Didn't you sign it a long time ago? I did too. Once we finishthe paperwork, we'll be officially divorced."

Albert's face darkened as he realized something. He grabbed the agreement and flipped to the last page. The handwriting was his, dated the day James had him sign away Mr. Valdemar Senior's inheritance.

Albert's jaw tightened. He felt regret but kept it to himself. "I did sign an agreement, but not this one," he said, staring at Yvette.

"Are you saying this contract was forged by your father? Albert, since we've both decided to divorce, there's no need for all this," Yvette replied, puzzled.

Albert stood up. "Come with me to find James. He will explain everything."

The morning sun streamed through the car windows as Albert drove in silence, speeding down the road. Yvette, uneasy, gripped the handle above the window.

Noticing her tension, Albert slowed down. They soon parked, and Yvette followed him to the top floor.

The floor gleamed coldly, reminding Yvette of what had happened a week ago. She paused, her breathing labored, then followed Albert again.

They reached James's office, startling the secretary nearby.

The secretary quickly stood up and approached cautiously. "Mr. Albert Valdemar? I'm sorry, you don't have an appointment. Mr. David Valdemar is in a meeting with Mr. James Valdemar. I need to inform them first."

She was nervous, remembering how she almost lost her job last time for mistaking Albert for David.

Albert shot her a cold glance. "David's in there?"

Frightened, she lowered her eyes. "Yes."

Albert sneered. "David actually came back."

Ignoring her, Albert led Yvette straight into the office.

Sure enough, David was there, talking to James.

Albert always hated how David groveled in front of James. He walked up to David, and they stood face to face, identical but different in demeanor.

David looked surprised, glancing at Yvette. "She needs rest. Why bring her here?"

Albert's face grew colder. "So, when Yvette disappeared, you hid her."

David replied, "It was Yvette's wish."

The tension was thick. James, leaning back, snorted. "If you wanna fight, take it outside. My office isn't a battleground."

James's voice made Albert angrier. He threw the folder with the divorce agreement on the desk.

"James, is this the agreement you had me sign?" Albert pressed his hands on the desk. "Are you out of your mind?"

James raised an eyebrow and laughed. "I drafted it, and you signed it. Who's out of their mind, me or you? Did I force you?"

Albert retorted, "What you gave me at that time was clearly..."

"Albert," James interrupted, slamming the table and standing up. "No matter what I've done, I'm still your father. And you're yelling at me for Yvette? You signed the agreement yourself. I didn't force you or forge it. What right do you have to throw a tantrum?"

Albert's eyes were cold. "I would never sign something like this!"

He stared into James's eyes, catching a look of success despite James's angry facade. He knew he had fallen into James's trap.

Realizing James wouldn't explain, Albert turned to Yvette. But before he could speak, David chimed in.

"Albert, I asked you. You said you didn't want it, that you didn't care. Didn't you say you had no regrets?"

Albert looked at Yvette. "That's not what I meant."

Yvette had been listening quietly. Hearing Albert say she was something he didn't care about losing unsettled her.

She curled her lips and looked at Albert. "Finished your show? Can I leave now?"
