Chapter 150 The Reason for Divorce

Yvette's voice was cold and firm.

Even Lassie, who was used to hearing about divorce, was momentarily stunned and panicked.

"Cooling-off period for divorce!" Lassie stepped closer to Yvette. "What do you mean? Did you and Albert go to City Hall?"

Yvette nodded, "Yes."

Lassie had thought Yvette was just talking, but realizing she had actually gone to handle the paperwork with Albert scared her. "When did you go? Why didn't you tell me?"

"Just today," Yvette said calmly, "If I had told you, I wouldn't have been able to go."

Lassie's face changed dramatically. She grabbed Yvette's arm angrily. "What's wrong with you? Such a big decision and you didn't discuss it with the family. I've told you, as long as you recover and get pregnant again, your marriage will be fine!"

"Mom," Yvette said coldly, "How many times do I have to tell you? This marriage is definitely over."

Lassie retorted, "No, I don't understand, why do you have to get a divorce? Albert's family is well-off, he's good to our whole family, why divorce? After the divorce, you've been married and had a miscarriage, you definitely won't find a better man than him!"

Yvette frowned. "I'm not divorcing to remarry, I'm divorcing for myself."

"For yourself to be more stressed? With Albert, you'd have less pressure! Did you lose your mind along with the baby?" Lassie was red with anger, hands on her hips, constantly accusing Yvette, "You didn't keep the baby, and you still insist on getting a divorce?"

Yvette felt her temples throbbing from Lassie's noise. She slowly exhaled and said, "Divorce isn't something I can decide on my own. Our marriage had problems from the start, we just ignored them because of the baby. Now that the baby is gone, we can have a clean break, and I can get a large sum of money to help you and Wayne out. What more do you want?"

"Problems? What problems could you have?! A perfectly good couple..." Halfway through, Lassie suddenly stopped. Her expression became serious as she stared at Yvette. "Tell me, are your problems because of another woman?"

Yvette frowned, about to deny it, but Lassie suddenly clapped her hands.

Lassie had an epiphany. She stared at Yvette, frustrated that Yvette hadn't toughened up, and said, "Is it because of that woman he was protecting the first time you met him?"

Lassie was referring to Violet.

Lassie gritted her teeth. "I knew something was off. I thought he was sincere about marrying you because he took the money, but it turns out it was really for the baby? Now that the baby is gone, he wants to divorce you? Is he going to divorce you and be with that bitch?"

At this moment, Lassie's face was twisted, as if she was ready to fight Albert who had wronged Yvette. She had completely forgotten how her attitude had changed instantly when she got that $100,000 gift.

Yvette felt a bit helpless and patiently said, "That's not the reason. Don't ask anymore. Anyway, it's come to this, Albert is no longer my husband, and you shouldn't go to him for anything in the future."

After saying that, Yvette didn't say more to Lassie and turned to go into her room.

Lassie watched Yvette walk away, eyes wide and breathing heavily, clearly furious.

Sylvia had just finished a busy morning and was heading back to her office when the front desk called, saying someone was there to see her.

She assumed it was a patient, but when the door opened, it was Yvette's mom, Lassie.

Sylvia was surprised. "Auntie Lassie? Did the front desk make a mistake?"

She quickly picked up the phone. "Don't worry, I'll call Yvette now, or you can go directly to her office."

"No need," Lassie said with a smile, stopping Sylvia from making the call. "I'm here to see you."

"Me?" Sylvia was puzzled, various thoughts running through her mind. She quickly brought over a chair. "Please, have a seat."

Lassie sat down, still smiling. "I didn't tell Yvette I was coming. I wanted to ask you something."

"Go ahead," Sylvia replied.

Lassie hesitated, rubbing her hands. "You know about their divorce, right? Is there another reason for it?"

Sylvia's smile faded. "What do you mean by 'another reason'?"

Lassie sighed. "I don't mind losing face here. You're close to Yvette, so you must know their issues. Do you know about the woman Albert liked before?"

Sylvia felt awkward. She didn't expect Lassie to ask about Albert and Violet.

Lassie was Yvette's mom, so Sylvia treaded carefully. "I'm not really sure. Maybe Yvette just wants a divorce because the baby is gone."

Lassie nodded. "I know Yvette wants a divorce, but what about Albert? Does he want to divorce Yvette to be with someone else? Sylvia, you're close to Yvette, you must tell me so I can help her."

Sylvia was troubled. "Auntie Lassie, please don't put me in a tough spot. You know Yvette keeps things to herself. I really don't know. I'm sorry."

Realizing Sylvia wouldn't talk, Lassie's face turned sour. "If you find out anything, tell me right away. You're Yvette's best friend; you wouldn't want her to get divorced, right?"

Sylvia stayed silent.

Leaving Sylvia's office, Lassie was about to exit the Medical Center when she heard Yvette's voice behind her.

"Mom?" Yvette walked up. "What are you doing here?"

Lassie's expression changed. "I came to see you, but you weren't there, so I was about to leave."

"I just came out of my office," Yvette said, puzzled.

"I must have gone to the wrong office." Lassie patted Yvette's arm. "Alright, Wayne and Zora have already helped me, I'm leaving."

Just then, Yvette's phone rang.

Lassie asked casually, "Who's calling?"

"Sylvia, probably something work-related."

Before Yvette could finish, Lassie snatched the phone and answered it.

Lassie's smile was stiff. "Sylvia, Yvette is talking to me right now. Can you call her later if it's not urgent?"
