Chapter 133 Not Having Children, Was That Albert's Idea Too?
Stepping out of David's office, Yvette felt torn.
She walked with her head down, stepping on the tiles one by one, trying to clear her mind.
"Yvette." A strange female voice suddenly caught her attention.
Yvette turned around and saw a middle-aged woman in an elegant dress, with flawless makeup.
"Hi, Yvette, I'm Lisa, Albert and David's mom."
Lisa extended her hand, looking friendly.
Yvette was momentarily stunned, then shook Lisa's hand. "Hi, do you need something from me?"
Lisa smiled. "You're Albert's wife, I just wanted to say hello."
"Okay." Yvette withdrew her hand, nervously looking down.
"Since you're here, why not come upstairs?" Lisa's smile had a hidden edge. "His father is waiting for you in the office."
Yvette stayed silent.
James's office was on the top floor. Yvette followed Lisa into the elevator, watching the numbers rise, her heart pounding.
The cold elevator walls reflected Lisa's smiling face, while Yvette felt like a criminal awaiting judgment.
Lisa led Yvette to the office door, knocked gently, and said, "James, Yvette is here."
"Come in," James's deep voice called from inside.
Lisa opened the door and said to Yvette, "You can go in."
"Thank you," Yvette whispered.
Lisa smiled gently. "James, don't be too serious, you might scare Yvette."
Watching Lisa leave, Yvette slowly walked to James's desk.
"Do you need something from me?"
James glanced at her, then opened a drawer and tossed a folder on the desk.
Seeing the folder, Yvette's heart tightened.
'The moment has finally come,' she thought.
"Take a look." James pointed to the document. "You reminded me last time that I should force Albert to give up his current marriage and the unborn child."
These were Yvette's words from last time, but she hadn't expected James to actually follow through.
Yvette held her breath and picked up the document.
This time, she didn't overthink it and just opened the file.
Even though she was prepared, the words "Divorce Agreement" still made her pupils contract.
Her heart pounded so fast she could barely breathe.
Lowering her gaze, Yvette tried to keep her feelings in check and carefully read each clause.
It detailed the money and property Albert would give her after their divorce. For the wealthy Valdemar family, it wasn't much, but for Yvette's family and their brief marriage, it was quite generous.
Until she saw a particular clause, Yvette's pupils suddenly contracted, and her hands went numb.
Yvette's chest heaved. "You're saying I have to get an abortion for this to work!"
"Yes," James nodded, patiently explaining, "With this money and property, you and your family will be well taken care of. After you get the abortion, all this property will be yours, and the Valdemar family will never reclaim it."
Yvette trembled with anger, gritting her teeth. "What if I don't want to?"
"If you don't want an abortion, the terms at the back explain it," James pointed to the document. "Keep flipping. If you refuse and have the child, we give you nothing and take back the money. Your marriage was short. Albert gave you $100,000, which your family spent on your brother, right?"
Yvette was stunned. "You investigated me?"
"Of course, it was easy to find out," James said disdainfully. "Your family can't come up with $100,000 now, can they? Given your situation, isn't it best to get an abortion, divorce Albert, and take what we're offering?"
Yvette was silent for a long time, then asked, "Did Albert agree?"
"You should see his signature at the end," James replied.
Yvette turned to the last page. The familiar handwriting stood out, but she didn't feel as hurt as she thought she would. Maybe she was already numb.
Yvette looked up, eyes filled with sorrow. "Did Albert also say not to have the child?"
James nodded. "We care about bloodlines. His grandfather always wanted a grandson but disapproved of your background."
Yvette bitterly smiled. Albert's recent care was likely because his grandfather wanted a grandson to share the inheritance. But since his grandfather disapproved of her, Albert made the right decision.
Yvette lowered her gaze. "I understand."
Back in David's office.
After sending Yvette out, David returned to his desk but felt uneasy and couldn't focus. Thinking of Yvette's probing look, she must have heard some rumors.
David exhaled slowly, uneasily opening the drawer to find a better place to hide the divorce agreement. As long as the Horizon Group saw Albert hadn't divorced, they might give up on marrying him, and James might not push for the divorce.
David rummaged through the drawer, and his heart sank. 'The divorce agreement is gone? I remember putting it here. It must be James!'
David suddenly remembered the secretary mentioning James had come to the office when he wasn't there. 'This is bad!'
David immediately got up and rushed out of the office. He burst into James's office, and his last hope vanished when he saw Yvette holding the divorce agreement.
David looked at James angrily. "Dad, how could you take something without my permission!"
Yvette chuckled. "It's okay, it was meant for me anyway."
David turned back, looking at Yvette with concern. She had a smile on her face, but her whole demeanor radiated despair. She was forcing a smile.
David asked, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Yvette smiled. "I got what I needed, so I'll be leaving now."
Yvette held the divorce agreement and walked towards the door. She staggered a few steps, and then her body gave out, collapsing to the ground.
David cried, "Yvette!"
