Chapter 418 As If Their World Only Had Each Other
Albert's deep eyes were slightly cold, a dark light flashing in them, his voice hoarse. "Stay within my sight, okay?"
In the banquet hall, no matter what Yvette was doing, there were always eyes following her.
She was somewhat resistant to having too many eyes on her, so after a few bites, she put down her fork, stood up, and walked towards the courtyard.
Thinking of Albert's words, Yvette still sent him a message: [I'm going out for some fresh air, just outside.]
Not wanting any complications in Eldoria, she decided to comply with his wishes. With the nighttime temperature colder than back home, Yvette rubbed her exposed arms to soothe the goosebumps. The next moment, she felt a touch of warmth on her shoulders.
Yvette's body stiffened as she realized a shawl had been draped over her. Looking up, she met the gaze of Eden Graham, the brother of the villa's owner. Knowing that the Valdemar Group's Eldoria branch had many collaborative projects with the Graham family, she didn't dare to offend him.
She stood up straight and nodded slightly. "Hello, Mr. Graham."
Eden raised an eyebrow, revealing a playful smile. "Beautiful lady, you know me?"
"Of course, everyone who comes here knows you." Yvette handed the shawl back to him. "Thank you for your kindness, but it's not necessary. I'm going back inside soon."
"The weather is very cold." Eden's smile was sunny. "Girls are afraid of the cold, and I'm a gentleman."
"Thank you for your kindness, but I'm not that cold." Yvette insisted on handing the shawl back to him.
Hearing this, Eden blinked his big eyes and, without further insistence, took the shawl back. "Then, girl, may I have the honor of a dance with you at the ball later?"
Yvette was about to refuse when a deep male voice interrupted their conversation. "She's not available."
Yvette turned around to see Albert holding a glass of wine, his brows slightly furrowed, walking towards them.
Albert strode towards Yvette, naturally wrapping his arm around her slender waist, pulling her into his embrace.
Just then, a gust of wind blew, and Albert's broad body shielded her from most of it.
Yvette looked up at him from within his embrace.
Eden looked surprised. "Mr. Valdemar? What's this?"
"She's my wife." Albert's face wore a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes, which were filled with indifference. "So, she's not available to accept your invitation."
Albert's assertiveness in declaring his claim left Yvette a bit stunned.
"Oh? Really?" Eden shrugged, saying with some regret, "What a pity!"
Albert said, "We've been married for many years."
"How fortunate!" Eden's gaze fell on Yvette. "It seems Mr. Valdemar and I have similar tastes. We must have a drink later."
Albert curved his lips but didn't agree, only tightening his grip on Yvette. "We'll be heading inside now."
Eden said, "Enjoy yourselves."
Albert held Yvette as they walked back into the banquet hall.
Yvette couldn't help but feel a bit nervous, cautiously explaining, "I was planning to come back inside after returning the shawl to him. Also, I sent you a message."
Albert glanced down at her.
Yvette couldn't quite gauge Albert's attitude, but she had a faint feeling that he wasn't very happy.
Inside the banquet hall, Yvette was kept by Albert's side like an accessory, with no chance to leave his side.
Yvette held a glass of wine, accompanying Albert as they dealt with everyone who came to toast and flatter him.
Albert seemed somewhat disinterested until an old professor appeared.
The old professor approached Albert. "Mr. Valdemar, I didn't expect you to attend this banquet."
"It was necessary." Albert raised his glass in a gesture of respect. "The Valdemar Group values this project and hopes to have the opportunity to collaborate with you."
The old professor's gaze fell on Yvette. "Mr. Valdemar, this is?"
"This is my wife," Albert said calmly.
Hearing Albert refer to her as his wife so many times in front of others today made Yvette a bit uncomfortable.
The old professor looked surprised. "You make a perfect couple. No wonder Mr. Valdemar brought your wife along."
"Yes." Albert chuckled lightly. "She used to be a doctor, so I brought her along, thinking she might find something of interest."
Hearing this, Yvette looked at Albert in confusion.
Albert looked down at her. "This banquet is organized by the International Medical Summit Forum led by the professor. We value this project and is interested in investing, so we came to learn more."
Yvette had thought that Albert's main intention was to have her seen by everyone at the Eldoria branch, showing her current status.
But she hadn't expected that Albert's primary goal was for her to attend this medical forum banquet.
Albert said to the old professor, "My wife is also very interested in medical research. Perhaps you two will have a lot in common."
The old professor looked at Yvette with some surprise. "Having someone knowledgeable in this field within the Valdemar Group is great news for us..."
The old professor began to explain the project in detail, and the more Yvette listened, the more interested she became, engaging in conversation with the professor.
Albert stood by, listening to Yvette speak in medical terms, watching the joy and focus in her eyes, and couldn't help but smile.
David sat by the large floor-to-ceiling window, bathed in moonlight, which couldn't dispel the coldness and gloom in his eyes.
The phone beside him vibrated slightly. It was a message from Fiona, the deputy general manager of the Eldoria branch. David picked it up and saw a picture.
Sitting alone by the window in the dark, his eyes fixed on the screen and his expression changed. The photo showed a man holding a woman's waist, walking forward with her in his arms.
The woman looked up at the man from within his embrace, and beneath the photo, it seemed their world consisted only of each other.
David's eyes stung at the sight of Yvette in the photo. He raised his hand to his heart and called Fiona.
Fiona's lowered voice came through, "David, what's going on? Why is Jessica now Albert's wife?"
David's voice was cold. "Albert took her to Eldoria?"
"Yes." Fiona sounded anxious. "What's going on?"
