Chapter 123 Yvette Treats Him As a Stand-in

The morning sun lazily streamed into the car.

Albert gripped the steering wheel, staring blankly ahead.

It was rush hour, and the road was packed. As he waited, his mind drifted back to the morning.

For Albert, used to a king-sized bed, Yvette's queen-sized one felt cramped.

Last night, before he could say anything, Yvette had already fallen asleep.

It was late, and he didn't want to wake her, but he felt stifled all night.

When they got up, both he and Yvette looked rough.

Albert had dark circles under his eyes and a somber expression.

"Yvette," he called, his voice deep, ready to talk.

"What's up?" Yvette asked, barely lifting her eyelids.

Albert was about to speak when a knock on the door interrupted him. "Yvette, Albert, come out for breakfast."

"Coming!"

Yvette got up, leaving Albert even more annoyed.

He planned to drive her to work, but after a while, he found she had already left.

She was clearly avoiding him.

It seemed like David was the only topic they ever talked about, and Yvette had nothing else to say to him.

Once the thought that Yvette liked David took root, Albert couldn't shake it.

From the moment he suspected Yvette liked David, everything clicked.

He and David looked exactly alike, so when Yvette met him again in high school, she sought him out, asking if he remembered her; because he and David looked so similar, she wanted to be around him.

Albert thought back to everything. When he had her beneath him, she responded, but he couldn't feel her joy.

She always had a hint of sadness, looking at him with an expression he couldn't understand.

So that's how it was.

Yvette saw him as a stand-in.

This thought consumed Albert, driving him mad.

He punched the steering wheel hard, causing the car to blare its horn.

At the medical evaluation center, it wasn't particularly busy. Yvette, sleep-deprived, felt a slight throbbing in her temples and pressed on them.

Sylvia, nearby, noticed and looked at her twice. "What's wrong? You feeling okay?"

"It's nothing, just didn't sleep well."

"Go have lunch early and take a nap."

"Okay."

Everyone was in the conference room, waiting for the meeting to start.

Dr. Valdemar rushed in, looking anxious. "Guys, the director said Mr. Valdemar is here for a visit. Get ready to welcome him."

Yvette was startled, feeling overly sensitive lately, to the point where she couldn't even hear the name "Valdemar."

Sylvia nudged Yvette lightly with her elbow and whispered, "Mr. Valdemar is here for a visit. Who do you think it will be? But no matter who it is, it seems like they're all your relatives."

Yvette felt a bit helpless. "Stop saying random stuff. Think about whether the boss will do a thorough review during the visit!"

Sylvia nodded with a smile. "You're about to resign, and you're still worried about this?"

"I can't bring shame to the medical evaluation center."

As they were talking, the conference room door opened. Yvette looked over and was immediately stunned.

Sylvia was right. Following the director into the room were David and his father, James.

Yvette was taken aback. The group rarely sent people to their North Airlines medical evaluation center, and now they sent James and David for a visit?

James's cold gaze swept over, landing directly on Yvette.

Almost instantly, Yvette understood that James was here for her.

Yvette hadn't expected that the first meeting with Albert's father would be in such a setting.

Yvette stood frozen until Sylvia frantically tugged at her clothes, muttering in a voice only they could hear.

"The one here for the visit is James Valdemar, Yvette. Isn't he your father-in-law?"

Yvette took a deep breath, finding the situation somewhat absurd. "It seems so."

At this moment, the director spoke, "Welcome to our medical evaluation center. These are our doctors. We'll take you on a tour of our center for the review."

James nodded, his gaze still on Yvette. "You can take David on the tour. I'll have Dr. Orlando accompany me for a chat."

James's words plunged the conference room into silence. Colleagues exchanged glances, their eyes brimming with gossip.

After all, everyone in the center knew that Yvette had married Albert.

"Dad," David frowned, looking at Yvette with some concern.

James glanced at David indifferently. "Do you have other opinions?"

David pressed his lips together. "No, I don't."

With that, David followed the director and other doctors out of the conference room, quickly typing a message on his phone.

Albert received the message while preparing for a flight two hours later.

Albert had blocked David's number, but for some reason, he impulsively checked the blocked messages and saw one from David.

[Get to med eval ctr conf rm ASAP. Dad's looking for Yvette!]

Without thinking, Albert grabbed his coat and ran, calling Victor to cover his shift. His expression was serious, ready for another fight with James.

Albert ran all the way, bursting into the medical evaluation center conference room, his gaze sharp as he looked at the man inside.

The door slammed against the wall with a loud bang, drawing the attention of the two people inside.

Yvette's face was pale, holding a full pitcher of water.

James lifted his eyelids to glance at Albert. "First time seeing you so anxious to meet me."

"James, what are you doing?"

"You can't talk to me like that!" James's face darkened. "What am I doing? I asked your wife to pour me a glass of water. Isn't it her basic duty as a daughter-in-law?"

"No." Albert turned to Yvette, his forehead veins slightly bulging, seemingly struggling to contain his anger and added, "Yvette, come here."
