Chapter 270 Albert Learns About Yvette's Pregnancy

The Valdemar Villa had gone back to its old, quiet self.

When Yvette went missing, the Valdemar family threw everything they had into finding her, but she was nowhere to be found.

Cheryl, in a fit of rage, packed up and left the villa.

A month later, Albert came back to the Valdemar Villa, standing in the living room with a slight hunch in his back.

The only thing that reminded him of the past hustle and bustle were the servants moving around. Everything was just like it was before Yvette.

But he couldn't get used to it.

Albert looked down and headed upstairs to talk business with James.

As he passed by Yvette's old room, he stopped without thinking. He stared at the closed door, standing there for what felt like forever, not wanting to leave but too scared to go in.

Every piece of furniture, every inch of that floor had seen his cruel treatment of Yvette.

Suddenly, his phone rang, snapping him back to reality.

He answered, and Vincent's voice came through. "Mr. Valdemar."

Albert replied, "Go ahead."

Vincent paused and then said, "No news is good news."

Albert's throat tightened, and he hung up with a grim look on his face.

While he acknowledged Vincent's logic—that the absence of bad news implied hope—each passing moment without locating Yvette felt like a relentless assault on his heart.

He didn't know when his heart would be completely consumed, but every second now was pure agony.

He thought, 'Yvette, where are you?'

Albert swayed, clutching the doorknob for support.

As if something was guiding him, Albert pressed down on the handle and walked into the room.

Since Yvette disappeared, he hadn't set foot in the Valdemar Villa until now.

The moment he stepped inside, a wave of longing hit him hard.

He looked around at everything familiar, his heart aching.

Every time he came into the room, Yvette would be there waiting for him, even though he was always cold and harsh to her.

And that bedside lamp—under its dim, soft light, he had forced himself on her more times than he could count.

Thinking about it, Albert clenched his fists. He was such a jerk, yet Yvette never hated him. He could remember so many little things that showed her love for him.

He didn't deserve her love.

Albert reached out to touch the bedside lamp, and out of the corner of his eye, he saw the locked drawer on the nightstand.

The drawer was locked. He tried to open it but couldn't.

Albert frowned and called a servant upstairs. "Have you ever opened the locked drawer in my room?"

The servant replied, "No, sir. We never open anything that's closed unless you tell us to."

A flicker passed through Albert's eyes, followed by a glint of realization. "Is there a key?"

The servant said, "The key was given to Mrs. Valdemar. I'm not sure if she took it with her."

Albert said in a low voice, "Bring someone up with tools to pry open the drawer."

Before anyone could come up to break the lock, James called again, urging him.

Albert impatiently hung up. He glanced at his watch, knowing he couldn't delay any longer. After talking with James, he still had to keep searching for Yvette.

When Albert walked in, James tossed a stack of papers on the table, looking seriously pissed off. "Albert, look at the mess you've made this past month."

Albert, looking worn out, shot him a disdainful glance. "None of your business."

James jabbed a finger at Albert's face, fuming. "None of my business? Are you kidding me? The Valdemar Group is the backbone of our family. Hayden made you the heir because he trusted you, and you've trashed his legacy in just a few days!"

Albert's gaze turned icy. "I'll handle the Valdemar Group, but right now, finding Yvette is my top priority."

"A woman has made you neglect the entire group?" James looked like he was about to explode. "It's been over a month, and you still think you can find her? Let me tell you, Albert, if Cheryl can't find her, she's probably dead."

"Shut up!" Albert's eyes blazed, and he slammed his fists on the table. "Say another word, and I can't promise I won't kill you."

James's face drained of color, visibly rattled. He shot a fierce look at Albert. "I'm your father and part of the Valdemar Group. I need to caution you against tearing our family apart over a woman."

Albert's chest heaved with anger. After a moment, he calmed down and spoke in a low voice, "You signed an agreement with Yvette, didn't you?"

James looked taken aback. "You know?"

Albert demanded, "Give me your copy of the agreement."

James hesitated but finally pulled it out from a drawer. "She's missing, and you still want this agreement?"

Albert snatched the agreement and stormed out without a word.

Once out of James's room, Albert immediately opened the agreement.

Thinking back on everything, Albert knew Yvette loved him and would never hurt him for money.

James was a sly fox; he must have set a trap for her.

Sure enough, flipping to the end, Albert saw why Yvette suddenly didn't want a divorce.

If she left the Valdemar Villa, half of his assets would go to James. Yvette had to stay to protect his assets!

Albert felt as heartbroken now as he was furious when he first saw the agreement.

She had yearned to break free from him, from the confines of Valdemar Villa, but she remained for his sake. However, he turned a deaf ear to her, adamantly convinced that her motives were driven by greed.

Albert's eyes filled with regret. He wished he could turn back time.

Just then, the door to their room burst open, and Vincent rushed out, holding a stack of papers, looking panicked.

Albert's heart sank. "What happened?"

"Mr. Valdemar." Vincent was out of breath. "When I came up, the drawer in your room had just been pried open, and there were two documents inside."

Vincent handed over the papers, his hands shaking.

"The first thing is a prenup Mrs. Valdemar wrote before she vanished, saying she didn't want any assets from before the marriage or money earned during it. But you didn't sign it. Did you know about this?"

Albert was stunned and shook his head. Before he could react, Vincent added, "The second thing is Mrs. Valdemar's pregnancy report. She was expecting a child."

Albert was completely floored.
