Chapter 250 Lassie Asks Yvette for Money
Albert had been having dinner at home and crashing there for two nights straight, which made Yvette feel like her life was finally getting a bit more interesting.
One afternoon, while Yvette was in her room pondering what new dish to whip up, she heard what sounded like an argument coming from the yard downstairs.
She couldn't make out the words but recognized a somewhat familiar voice.
"I told you I'm Mrs. Valdemar's mother, why won't you let me in?"
The servant, sounding irritated, retorted, "Mrs. Valdemar's mother passed away a long time ago. Don't cause a scene at the Valdemar residence . Leave now, or I'll call security."
"Who said she passed away? I'm standing right here! Why are you pushing me?" Lassie suddenly shouted loudly, "Yvette! You don't answer your phone and won't let me in. Are you planning to deny that I'm your mother?"
Startled by her name, Yvette quickly rose to look out the window.
It was indeed Lassie causing a scene downstairs.
Yvette suddenly felt a bit nervous. She had almost developed a psychological shadow from Lassie's antics, regardless of time and place.
Suppressing the tingling feeling on her back, Yvette hurried downstairs.
Lassie's eyes lit up instantly when she saw her, while Yvette only felt embarrassed. She walked over to Lassie and explained to the servant, "This is my mother. I'll take her inside."
The servant's expression immediately turned awkward, and she repeatedly apologized, "Sorry, Yvette, I thought she was a scammer."
"It's okay." Yvette pulled Lassie inside.
Lassie still wanted to argue arrogantly with the servant, but Yvette finally couldn't help but tug at her. "Give me a break, please!"
Seeing Yvette unhappy, Lassie didn't dare to go too far. She glared at Yvette, "We haven't seen each other for so long, why the long face?"
"How did you find the Valdemar family's address?" Yvette questioned, her voice lowered in anger, "And why did you come without my permission?"
"How could I get your permission? You don't even answer your phone!" Lassie glared at Yvette, "If I didn't come, you probably wouldn't meet me at all."
Yvette bit her lip, on the brink of losing her temper, when the door suddenly swung open, and Lisa emerged.
Lisa looked like she had an engagement later, dressed in a crisp white shirt and black trousers. She glanced at Lassie, her face smiling but her eyes showing disdain.
"Are you Yvette's mother? Nice to meet you for the first time. You and Yvette bear a striking resemblance. I recognized you right away," Lisa greeted with a smile.
"Really? Yvette did inherit the best from her father and me." Lassie stepped forward, hunched over, and extended her hands. "Hello, nice to meet you."
Lisa's gaze swept over Lassie's hands, but she remained upright, not extending her hand, and said with a hint of sarcasm, "Sorry, we don't have time to entertain you at home. Yvette has been here for a while and is familiar with the house. If you need anything, just ask Yvette to find a servant."
"No problem, I just came to see Yvette today. You all go ahead." Lassie retracted her hands with a smile.
Lassie didn't seem upset at all, as if she hadn't noticed the underlying message in Lisa's words.
Lisa sneered silently and didn't say another word, heading straight to her car and driving off.
"Let's go," Yvette said.
"Alright, let's talk in your room."
Once they were in Yvette's room, Lassie looked around, her face turning cold.
Lassie sneered, "Albert's stepmother doesn't seem like a good person. You should keep your distance from her. I caught her drift. She was basically saying the Valdemar family doesn't want you here and doesn't want me visiting. So what? You still live here, and I can come whenever I want. She doesn't get to decide. If it weren't for you just moving in and needing to keep the peace, I would've clapped back."
Lassie patted Yvette's shoulder, gritting her teeth, "You need to hurry up and have a kid with Albert. Once your relationship is solid, you can deal with her. She hasn't given the Valdemar family a child for years; she'll be out the door soon enough."
Yvette frowned, not wanting to engage.
Lassie looked around the room, finally somewhat satisfied. "The Valdemar family treats you well. You have such a nice room and servants to take care of you. I'm relieved."
"These are supplements I bought for you." Lassie placed the items she brought on the table. "There's stuff for you and some for Albert. I've split them up and tagged them."
"No thanks, you can take them back," Yvette replied, not even bothering to look.
"How can that be? It's been a while and you're still not pregnant. We need to do something." Lassie touched Yvette's arm, "Yvette, how often do you and Albert have sex lately? Don't do it too frequently. You need to time it with your ovulation period; otherwise, the egg quality won't be good."
Yvette blushed, not expecting such a blunt question from Lassie.
Yvette finally couldn't hold back. "Mom, do you have to meddle in this too? Why are you here? If you don't want to say, just go home. I don't have time to chat with you."
Hearing Yvette's words, Lassie stopped pretending. Ignoring Yvette's dark expression, she smiled and said, "Actually, I just popped by to see you. Oh, and don't forget, Kyle needs to get to his tutoring sessions soon."
Yvette sneered, "I've been footing your medical bills. They should've been paid back by now, right? Isn't that enough to cover Kyle's tutoring?""
"That wasn't much, and we had to deal with the new house, paperwork, and the unfinished renovations very soon. I'm almost out of money. I wanted to save up, but Kyle needs tutoring now." Lassie smiled ingratiatingly. "You know Wayne's health isn't good. We hope Kyle can achieve something. If Kyle can't get tutoring, Wayne will get anxious and throw tantrums at home. If he gets sick, the whole family will suffer."
"I have no money," Yvette said coldly, "Whether your family has a good life or not has nothing to do with me. Don't come to the Valdemar family again. If Albert and James see you and I get kicked out, what will you rely on then?"
Lassie's face stiffened, about to continue persuading her, but her eyes suddenly fell on the nightstand.
Following her gaze, it was the box of condoms she had bought in the countryside last time.
"Yvette!" Lassie said sternly, "Why are you still using condoms?"
