Chapter 207 Yvette Took Lassie to the Hospital for a Follow-Up

Albert lifted his eyelids and asked indifferently, "Did Yvette tell you to come talk to me?"

"Absolutely not," Sylvia shot back, clearly annoyed. "I just don't want her to be misunderstood when she's busting her butt."

Albert stared at Sylvia, his face blank. "So, what do you want me to do?"

Sylvia was caught off guard. Last time she talked to Albert, she was sure he had feelings for Yvette. But now, she wasn't so sure. She thought, 'Could it really be as Yvette said? Is there truly no chance for them to be together?'

The drizzle finally stopped by morning, and the thin clouds couldn't hide the rosy dawn. Sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, lighting up the whole Valdemar Villa.

Yvette was woken up early by the Valdemar family's servant for breakfast. Sitting across from James and Lisa, she picked at the food in her bowl without any expression.

James and Lisa acted like Yvette wasn't even there, ignoring her completely as they chatted. "Most of the documents are signed. You need to push the rest through," James said while eating.

"I know," Lisa replied casually. "But the follow-up is tricky. It might take a while, so don't rush. A lot of it needs Albert's coordination."

Yvette kept eating calmly, her face unchanged. It was James and Lisa who glanced at her at the same time.

Finally noticing Yvette, Lisa put down her fork and said, "Yvette, since you and Albert are still married, you should remind him to handle the inheritance stuff quickly. The sooner it's done, the sooner he gets the assets. Isn't that better?"

Yvette didn't look up. "Even though Albert and I aren't getting divorced, we're pretty much on the edge. Sorry, I can't do that. You'll have to ask James."

James sneered at Yvette, "You're good at dodging responsibility."

Yvette pressed her lips and said, "I need to go out later to take Mom to the hospital."

"Go ahead. You can come and go as you please here. You don't need to tell me."

"I'm not reporting to you." Yvette put down her fork and looked at James seriously. "Is living in the Valdemar Villa only worth 20 grand?"

Yvette's voice was soft, and she looked genuinely curious. James's face changed, realizing she was asking for money. "I'll have someone transfer the money to you later."

"Okay, I talked to a doctor friend and found a hospital through a connection. They said they could get a special injection for 160 grand each," Yvette said with a smile. "Can you give me the money for three injections first? Thanks."

James looked at Yvette, raising an eyebrow in disbelief. "You're already asking me for big money?"

"Is it really that insignificant for me to live in the Valdemar Villa without a divorce certificate?" Yvette's expression was innocent. "I'm in a hurry. If you can't come up with the money, I can get a divorce certificate with Albert in twenty days. If you don't want to give me the money, I can get a few million dollars for half of his assets. He should be willing to do that, right?"

James stared at Yvette, feeling a mix of honesty and disgust. Here he was, an elder, being strong-armed by her, and he couldn't even say no. His face turned red with anger.

After a moment, he pulled out his phone and called someone from finance. "Transfer 600 grand to the card we used last time, right now."

Yvette smiled. "Thanks."

Leaving the Valdemar Villa, Yvette squinted up at the bright sun. Her mood matched the weather. As long as Lassie could get treatment, there was still hope.

Yvette contacted the top hospital for ALS treatment and set up an appointment with Dr. Alfonso Romero, planning to take Lassie's report there first. She called Zora. "Zora, how's Lassie doing today?"

"Are you coming back, Yvette?" Zora dodged the question.

"Not sure. I need to check on things at the hospital," Yvette said, puzzled. "Did something happen to Lassie?"

"She's not doing well. I was going to work today, but she fell this morning. Her legs seem weak," Zora said softly. "But I checked her, and she should be fine. I'll stay home to take care of her today, so don't worry."

"This might be part of the disease progression." Yvette frowned. "I'll go to the hospital first. If I have time, I'll come back to check on her."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Yvette furrowed her brows, looking somewhat worried.

Hurrying to the hospital, Yvette handed Lassie's previous test results to Dr. Alfonso.

Dr. Alfonso examined them carefully and then asked, "How long has she had these symptoms?"

"Not long. She had an accident and injured her head. After surgery, she felt unwell, and then she was diagnosed with ALS," Yvette said, worried. "Is there something wrong with the test results?"

"The data is a bit inconsistent," Dr. Alfonso said. "What's her current condition? I suggest you bring her in for a re-examination. Different hospitals have different equipment, and the data can vary."

"Okay, please help me with the test orders. I'll go pick her up later," Yvette said, describing Lassie's recent symptoms. "Zora told me my mom fell today, possibly due to weakness in her legs, which seems worse than before."

Dr. Alfonso clicked on his computer and handed the printed test orders to Yvette. "I won't jump to any conclusions yet. Let's bring her in for a re-examination first."

Yvette looked at the re-examination orders in her hand and hurried home. It wasn't until she reached the door that she remembered she should have asked Zora to pack up and get ready to leave.

As Yvette reached the door and rummaged through her bag for the keys, the door suddenly opened. Thinking it was Zora about to leave, Yvette stepped back, waiting for her to come out. But to her surprise, when Yvette looked up, she met Lassie's eyes.

Looking down, she saw Lassie holding a bag of trash, about to throw it out. Seeing Yvette, Lassie froze.

Yvette was stunned and instinctively looked behind Lassie, but she didn't see the wheelchair. Yvette was astonished. "Mom?"

Lassie's expression was extremely unnatural. After a couple of seconds, she suddenly smiled. "Yvette, I was just about to call you. I took a nap and woke up feeling quite strong!" Lassie said excitedly. "The doctor is amazing. The medicine he prescribed is remarkably effective!"
