Chapter 308 Conducting a Paternity Test
Lester and Christina were still chatting away, but Albert couldn't hear a word they were saying anymore.
The whole situation had him completely thrown. He was sure Yvette, now going by Jessica, was dodging him, but he never in a million years thought the kids might be his.
After she took that nasty fall from the bridge, he was just relieved she made it. The idea that the kids might have survived too? That never crossed his mind.
Seeing these two healthy, lively, and smart kids in front of him, Albert got up and walked over to them.
He crouched down slowly, looking them in the eyes as they stared back, confused.
"Uncle Albert, what's up? Why do you look like you're about to cry?"
His voice shook a bit. "Can I... give you a hug?"
Yvette expected the Valdemar Group HQ team to be challenging, but she didn't anticipate them being this difficult to deal with.
To wrap up the project ASAP and get back to Vegas with the kids, Yvette needed to get in touch with Dominic, who was out on a business trip, and have him set up a meeting with some colleagues to discuss the project.
But word about the club incident had spread, and those colleagues weren't taking her seriously.
After Albert publicly kissed her, a move that appeared humiliating to anyone witnessing it, Yvette felt powerless to retaliate and hesitated to cause any more trouble.
In the eyes of these colleagues, she was merely a woman who had been toyed with.
After a lot of effort, Yvette finally got a few colleagues to accept her documents.
Before leaving the project office, Yvette double-checked with them, "When Dominic gets back and signs the contract, please let me know right away so we can push the project forward."
The colleagues, who had been somewhat curious, got impatient when they realized she was just talking business. "Yeah, yeah, we got it."
As the glass door closed, Yvette sighed in frustration. All she could do now was wait. Then, Albert called—he had the kids.
The kids were supposed to be with the nanny, so how did they end up with him?
The thought of the kids alone with Albert made Yvette's skin crawl.
She hoped the kids wouldn't say anything they shouldn't.
She rushed to Albert's office, pushed the door open without knocking, and barged in.
Lester and Christina were sitting on the sofa, while Albert was crouched in front of them.
Albert had his back to the door, so Yvette couldn't see his face, but his sudden lowered posture made her sense something was off.
Almost instinctively, Yvette quickly called out, "BoBo, CiCi, come to Mommy!"
Hearing the door open, Lester and Christina turned their heads at the same time and ran to Yvette with big smiles.
Yvette crouched down and hugged them tight. "You scared Mommy! Why didn't you stay with the nanny and came here instead?"
"The nanny brought us to the company and then disappeared." Christina shook her head, hugging Yvette's neck with a grin. "But Uncle Albert has been playing with us."
Yvette's body tensed up, and her expression turned awkward.
She instinctively looked up at Albert, only to meet his ambiguous gaze, which made her nervous.
"Vincent," Albert called to his assistant. "Take the kids to the guest room to play for a bit."
Yvette tried to stop him. "What are you doing? I'm taking the kids now, why should they go to the guest room?"
Albert gave Vincent a look, and he had already taken the kids away.
"Albert!"
Albert stepped closer to Yvette, his eyes full of unreadable emotions, his hands clenched tightly at his sides.
In an indifferent tone, he asked, "Don't you have something to say to me?"
His voice, as cold as winter snow laced with a chilling wind, pierced through her heart.
A sense of foreboding quickly surged in Yvette's heart. Could it be that Albert had figured out the kids' identity?
A flash of panic crossed Yvette's eyes. She forced herself to stay calm and explained nonchalantly, "I'm sorry, David is not in Luken. The nannies might not be familiar with the kids yet and didn't take good care of them, causing them to disturb you. I'm really sorry."
Albert stared unblinkingly into Yvette's eyes, the corners of his eyes tinged with a thin layer of red. His gaze was a mix of unwillingness, surprise, and barely concealed anger.
His emotions were too complex, and even his usually cold and arrogant voice had become somewhat hoarse.
"BoBo and CiCi are my kids, aren't they?" Albert's voice was firm, enunciating each word.
Yvette tensed up. Despite expecting it, Albert's confident question nearly caused her to lose control of her emotions.
"How could that be!" Feeling the fine sweat in her palms, Yvette deliberately glared at Albert to cover her nervousness. "Their daddy is David. Please don't say such things!"
"Yvette, how long do you plan to keep this up?"
The thought of Yvette letting his kids call David daddy made Albert's heart surge with rage.
His eyes turned bloodshot, his emotions no longer calm. "The kids' birth months match the prenatal check-up reports you left behind."
"What does that have to do with me! I told you, I am Jessica!" Yvette glared at him hatefully. "Get out of my way!"
Albert raised his voice. "Yvette!"
He was about to continue when Yvette, on the verge of breaking down, interrupted him loudly, "Albert, the kids are still young. If they hear rumors, how will they cope? Please, refrain from such remarks! They are very important to David and me. We won't allow you to spread such baseless rumors and insult them. They are our kids, without a doubt!"
Yvette's body trembled as she clenched her fists and pressed her lips together, mustering all her strength to suppress the rising guilt.
Albert just silently observed Yvette. Her diverted gaze and unnatural expression made him doubt the truth of her words.
If the kids' father was another man, a paternity test would reveal it. However, as Albert and David were identical twins with the same DNA, a paternity test would confirm the relationship with either of them if they were the fathers.
He calmed down for a few seconds, made a decision, and deliberately said, "Then let's do a paternity test."
He paused, acting very confident, trying to trick Yvette. "Many people think identical twins have completely identical DNA, but there are often slight differences. David and I aren't exactly alike. So, a test can confirm if the kids are mine."
