Chapter 488 Hid the Pills
Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow on Yvette's pale face as she lay quietly in bed, slowly opening her eyes.
Beside the bed were numerous medicine bottles, syringes, and various medical instruments, all beeping steadily.
She had slept again.
The nightstand next to her bed was empty, indicating that Clifford's parents hadn't visited all day.
Yvette felt a bit puzzled but reassured herself that maybe his parents were busy contacting Albert.
Ever since Albert returned to the Valdemar Group, he had become increasingly suspicious and might not easily believe his parents, making things complicated.
As Yvette was lost in her thoughts, a knock suddenly sounded at the door.
Yvette hoped it was the Hayes family parents bringing news, but it turned out to be the doctor again.
Seeing the doctor wheel in a cart loaded with pills and IV bags, Yvette couldn't help but frown.
"Another IV?" she asked.
The doctor, efficiently hanging the IV bag, nodded. "Yep."
"But I already had one this morning," Yvette said, confused. "Do I need another one so soon?"
"Yeah, you slept the whole day. You need to replenish your strength."
Yvette wanted to resist, but her body was too weak, lacking the strength to stop the male doctor.
The doctor's hands moved with practiced ease, the cold needle slipping almost imperceptibly into her vein. She felt no rush of vitality—only the relentless chill of the needle, as though it were silently siphoning away her life force.
Powerless to resist, she lay motionless as the liquid crept, slow and cold, through her veins.
"What are you giving me?" she asked.
"Something good for you," the doctor replied casually.
He placed the prepared pills and tablets on a small tray and pushed it towards her.
"Take your medicine."
Yvette looked at the pile of pills, her dose for the meal. As a doctor herself, she roughly examined the pills, trying to guess their effects. But there were too many, and she couldn't figure out what was wrong with her.
Regardless of their effects, the variety and quantity were clearly beyond normal.
Something was off!
Yvette frowned. "What are these pills for?"
"They're good for you too."
"If they're good for me, you should at least tell me what they're treating," Yvette said, her voice still weak but tinged with frustration.
She looked at the doctor, whose eyes flickered, increasing her suspicion.
Yvette resisted weakly. "I can't just take these pills without knowing what they are!"
The doctor hesitated, then tried to answer lightly, "Oh, they're just for heart and liver protection, to keep you healthy."
His evasive eyes and attitude betrayed him, deepening Yvette's doubts.
She took a deep breath. "I need to know the truth."
The doctor, flustered by her determined gaze, unconsciously avoided her eyes. "They're just health supplements, really."
Yvette opened her mouth to ask more when there was another knock at the door.
"Ms. Orlando, it's me. May I come in?" Gabrielle's voice came from outside.
Yvette frowned and said to the doctor, "Fine, I'll take them. You can go."
"Oh, okay." The doctor left, visibly relieved.
Taking advantage of the doctor's departure and Gabrielle's entrance, Yvette quickly grabbed the pile of pills.
She was about to hide them when Gabrielle walked in.
Gabrielle maintained a polite smile as she approached Yvette's bed. "How are you feeling today?"
That doctor must be from the Hayes family, administering and arranging all these random medications, surely under their orders.
This made Yvette wary and suspicious of Gabrielle.
Pretending to know nothing, Yvette forced a weak smile at Gabrielle.
She tightly clenched the pills in her hand, afraid Gabrielle would notice she hadn't taken them.
She whispered, "Waking up is better than being unconscious, I guess. Still tired, but hopefully, I'll get better."
"Take your time to recover," Gabrielle said coolly.
Gabrielle's polite smile slowly faded.
Suddenly, Gabrielle asked, "Ms. Orlando, would you like to visit Clifford with me?"
The unexpected question caught Yvette off guard, shifting her focus from the pills to a surge of complex emotions.
Yvette cautiously asked, "Is he awake?"
Gabrielle's eyes showed sorrow as she slowly shook her head.
Yvette felt a pang of sadness, knowing Clifford was suffering because of her.
She mustered her strength and hid the pills under her pillow.
She nodded and gave a self-deprecating smile. "Okay. But I don't have the strength to get up."
"If you're willing to sit in a wheelchair, I can push you."
Yvette lowered her gaze. "Alright."
Gabrielle wheeled Yvette out of the room. Shortly after the door closed, it was pushed open again.
Felix entered with another doctor, his expression serious and grim.
"She hid the pills," Felix said.
Felix walked straight to Yvette's pillow, lifting it to reveal scattered pills—not just today's dose, but many more.
Felix's eyes showed understanding, his face darkening. Yvette had been cautious all along.
Felix sneered.
Given the situation, with Yvette in their hands, he would find a way to keep her.
Felix took a deep breath.
He had never done anything bad in his life, but now he was forced into it.
Felix turned to the doctor behind him. "That guy's loose-lipped and not too bright. From now on, you'll handle Ms. Orlando's treatment. Got it?"
The male doctor adjusted his glasses. "Thank you for the promotion."
Felix raised his chin. "What do you plan to do with these pills?"
"Since Ms. Orlando is a doctor and knows about pharmacology, we'll replace them with actual health supplements, confirming the previous doctor's statement," the doctor said, smiling coldly and ingratiatingly. "What do you think?"
