Chapter 205 She Didn't Want a Divorce Anymore
Albert's words made Yvette freeze. Yvette's eyes darted around. She looked down and tried to change the subject. "Am I interrupting your meeting?"
Albert kept staring at her. "Why are you here? Why didn't you go to City Hall?"
Yvette pressed her lips together and stayed quiet.
Albert had really put her on the spot. She thought, 'How am I supposed to answer? Should I admit I made a deal with James for money to stay with the Valdemar family? That as long as I stay, James will cover my mom's medical bills? Or should I shamelessly admit I didn't go to City Hall because I need more money, and the divorce settlement from James isn't enough? How could I, already so low, have the nerve to say these things?'
Yvette looked up and met his gaze. "I don't want a divorce anymore."
"So you blocked my contact, afraid I'd call and force you to get the divorce papers?" Albert sneered, his eyes flashing, "Yvette, is it about the money? You found out I got the inheritance, so even though you can't stand me, you're willing to stay married?"
Yvette was stunned. It was only then she realized Albert had come back because he inherited a fortune. It was also then she understood why James let her not divorce Albert. Because once divorced, it wouldn't just be the money the Valdemar family had promised her before.
Yvette hadn't expected such a coincidence, such a big event happening. Yvette opened her mouth but didn't speak. Albert saw her surprised expression, but it looked completely fake to him.
Albert's voice grew colder. "Your plan has failed, Yvette. This inheritance is under my control, yet you believed James."
"But he can help me." Yvette clenched her fists.
"What can he help you with? Give you money?" Albert glared at her.
The relationship between her and James was purely transactional. She sought James' help, and if it didn't work, she'd find another way. But after repeatedly asking Albert for a divorce, she didn't dare ask him for help. If she did, she would undoubtedly face the same scorn and ridicule from Albert as she did now.
Albert sneered, "Indeed, a vain woman like you shouldn't expect to get another penny from me."
Yvette forced a smile, but her eyes were filled with bitterness, saying, "I just regret it. I don't want a divorce anymore."
Albert looked at her with disgust. "Yvette, nothing's gonna go your way, not a single thing." With that, Albert didn't even want to look at her again. He turned his gaze away and went back downstairs.
Yvette lowered her eyes, trying hard to suppress the emotions. She glanced at the gossiping people downstairs, said nothing, and turned back to the room James had prepared for her.
The meeting outside ended at some point, and when James knocked on Yvette's door, the Valdemar Villa was already empty.
Yvette peeked out and took a glance. James, with his years of business experience, immediately understood her thoughts. James raised an eyebrow, saying, "Albert was the first to leave. He took off right after signing the papers."
Yvette lowered her eyes and nodded calmly, asking, "But didn't you say he'd come back?"
"Seems like you really want him to come back." James looked at Yvette thoughtfully, adding, "Looks like you like him quite a bit. You should be happy with my plan. You get Albert and money for your mom's treatment."
Yvette smiled bitterly inside. This way of being with Albert would only lead to endless resentment. Yvette didn't show it on her face and responded calmly, "If he doesn't want to come back, how am I supposed to get pregnant with his child? You should try harder."
"Me?" James looked at her with a hint of surprise and amusement. "He's your husband."
"I can't do it," Yvette stated, "Albert is your biological son. Can you guarantee you can do it?"
James fell silent, looking at Yvette for a few more seconds before speaking again. He took out a card and handed it to Yvette, saying, "Since you're moving in and planning to have a child with him, I'll stick to our agreement. This card has no password."
Yvette stared at the card in James' hand for a long time. She knew that once she took it and used the money, she would be under James' control. But Albert's attitude made it clear. So Yvette took the card without hesitation, nodded, and said politely, "Thank you."
With the card in hand, Yvette left the Valdemar Villa. Yvette went to the bank to check. Two thousand dollars—it wasn't much, but it was enough to get Lassie admitted to the hospital and seemed to be a reassuring deposit.
As Yvette was about to head home, Sylvia called. Sylvia was excited. "Yvette, did you know Albert suddenly inherited a fortune? It's all over the news. It's so thrilling! Albert went from an ordinary pilot to a billionaire overnight!"
Yvette smiled bitterly as she said, "I just found out too."
Sylvia laughed. "Then you definitely shouldn't get a divorce!"
Yvette's eyes were empty. "I won't."
"This is so interesting. Are you home? I'm coming over!" Before Yvette could refuse, Sylvia had already hung up.
Yvette let out a slow breath. When Yvette got home, Sylvia was already there.
Seeing Yvette enter, Sylvia's eyes instantly reddened. Yvette pressed her lips together, saying, "Where's my mom?"
"She struggled to wheel herself to open the door for me, then asked me to push her back to her room." Sylvia's voice had a hint of a sob. "Yvette, when was Lassie diagnosed? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Just a few days ago." Yvette's voice sounded weary. "Let's go to my room."
"Okay." Sylvia followed Yvette into the room and was instantly shocked. "Yvette, did you move out of your house?"
"Yes," Yvette admitted, "My mom's treatment is very expensive. Albert's father is willing to pay for it, so I moved to the Valdemar Villa."
Sylvia was clearly surprised and took a while to react. "Yvette, you're not staying married to Albert just because his dad is using the money to threaten you, are you?"
