Chapter 108 Yvette's Determination to Leave Albert Wavered
The ER was a madhouse, and the sleeping arrangements were super awkward, but Yvette slept deeply.
When she woke up, all she could hear were the beeps of machines and the muffled groans of patients. She snapped awake, remembering she was still in the hospital.
Her mind cleared fast. Yvette got up, glanced at her still-sleeping family, stretched her stiff body, and looked around.
Albert was nowhere to be seen.
Yvette slowly got up and wandered out of the chaotic ER, just in time to see Albert talking to a middle-aged man not far away.
The man was tall, with a receding hairline and thick eyebrows, giving off an air of authority. But with Albert, he had a gentle smile, looking very friendly.
Yvette couldn't hear their conversation, but she caught Albert calling the man "Uncle Anderson" and being very respectful, so he was probably a familiar elder.
Seeing Albert hadn't left, Yvette felt a wave of relief.
Albert stood straight, holding a folder, in front of the middle-aged man.
The man patted Albert's arm and smiled, "Albert, you've grown up. I haven't seen you in over ten years."
Albert's eyes softened, and he smiled slightly, "Uncle Anderson, you have a good memory. It's really been a long time."
Just then, a passing nurse glanced at the middle-aged man and immediately greeted him respectfully, "Mr. Anderson."
Mr. Anderson nodded, "Hello."
Mr. Anderson's gaze returned to Albert, "I've seen David a few times recently, but not you."
Albert's eyes stayed calm, "No wonder you recognized me right away."
Mr. Anderson then asked, "Why are you at our hospital? Are you not feeling well? If you need anything, just let me know. I'll help if I can."
"I'm fine," Albert said, his deep eyes darkening slightly, "But I do need your help with something."
"What is it?"
Albert handed the folder to Mr. Anderson, "Uncle Anderson, there are no beds in the ER. We had to use a folding bed in the hallway, which isn't very convenient. Could you help us out?"
Mr. Anderson flipped through the folder, which contained all the medical records and test results of the patient "Wayne," neatly organized by Albert.
He glanced through it, "Our hospital's cardiovascular department is the best, and we have a shortage of beds. His condition isn't serious, so it's normal not to get a bed."
Mr. Anderson looked up at Albert, "Is this your friend?"
Albert's expression didn't change, "He's my wife's brother."
"Your wife?" Mr. Anderson was surprised and quickly closed the folder, "When did you get married? I didn't hear anything from your father. We've known each other for years, and he didn't even invite me to your wedding? That can't be right!"
Albert smiled, "We haven't had the wedding yet. We'll definitely let you know when we do."
"No wonder I wasn't invited." Mr. Anderson laughed and handed the folder back to Albert, "You guys have really grown up, getting married. I wish you happiness, Albert. Stay in touch."
Albert seemed touched by the words "wish you happiness." He smiled sincerely, "Thank you, Uncle Anderson."
In the ER.
Kyle woke up wanting to go out and play. Zora, not wanting to disturb anyone, took him outside. Yvette and Lassie stayed behind to help Wayne freshen up.
Just then, Yvette's phone rang. It was the colleague she had contacted earlier.
Yvette immediately dropped what she was doing and ran out to answer the call.
"Yvette, your problem is sorted."
"Really?" Yvette was thrilled. "Thank you so much. I was about to give up. Your hospital's cardiovascular department is outstanding, but it's always so busy. I was considering transferring Wayne if there were no beds. Once Wayne's situation is settled, I'll definitely treat you and your husband to dinner!"
Her colleague laughed, "It wasn't me who arranged it. Didn't you go directly to the dean? The dean personally arranged it for Wayne."
Yvette was stunned. She hadn't done that. If she had, she wouldn't have needed to ask her colleague for help.
"Yvette, I didn't expect that after just a few years in the medical field, you'd know someone like our dean. That's impressive!" Her colleague exclaimed, "Mr. Anderson is one of the fairest people in our hospital, and he personally arranged a bed for Wayne."
Mr. Anderson?
Yvette instantly recalled the scene earlier. Could the middle-aged man Albert called "Uncle Anderson" be the Mr. Anderson her colleague mentioned?
Yvette felt a mix of emotions. She pursed her lips, "No, it's my friend who knows Mr. Anderson."
"Your friend? What kind of friend? I'm so jealous!"
Hearing the teasing tone in her classmate's voice, Yvette knew she meant no harm. But thinking that it was ultimately Albert who helped, she could only laugh awkwardly and change the subject.
After hanging up, Yvette returned to the ER. Zora had already brought Kyle back and was packing up with Lassie.
It seemed they had received the notification about Wayne being transferred to a room at the same time.
Yvette's gaze fell on Albert. He still seemed out of place but was also helping to pack.
She felt a bit conflicted and slowly stopped in her tracks.
The middle-aged woman who had borrowed a chair from the neighboring bed looked at them enviously, "Are you moving to a ward?"
"Yeah! We're moving to a ward, so we won't keep getting tripped over in the hallway."
"That's not easy. I heard it's really hard to get a bed in the cardiovascular department here!"
"My daughter is a doctor here!"
"You're so lucky. Your daughter is beautiful and capable, and your son-in-law is handsome and talented!"
These words made Lassie very happy.
Lassie chatted with her while packing, her tone full of pride, "Yvette is indeed impressive. Her knowing someone at the hospital proves that our decision to support her education and make her a doctor was right!"
"You're right," Albert chuckled, "I'm very lucky to have married an outstanding wife."
Yvette was taken aback by his words and looked at Albert with a complicated expression, only to meet his gaze.
Their eyes met, and Albert's eyes still held a softness and a smile. He looked at her intently, his gaze incredibly captivating, making Yvette involuntarily fall for it.
Yvette was momentarily lost, realizing how embarrassing she was only after a few seconds.
She quickly looked away.
