Chapter 117 David Likes You

Yvette was about to say something when Lassie finally caught on.

"Sorry, I thought you were Albert." Lassie moved closer, scrutinizing David's face. "They really do look identical. Are you guys seriously not pulling my leg?"

"Mom," Yvette sighed. "No one's messing with you. They're identical twins; they look exactly the same." She didn't want Lassie to keep harping on it, so she hurried her along. "He's just here to use the bathroom. Go do your thing."

Lassie gave an apologetic smile. "I just never knew Albert had a twin brother. Alright, you guys chat. I'll keep cleaning."

Even though she said that, her eyes stayed glued to David.

"Mom!" Yvette reminded her, giving Lassie a stern look. Only then did Lassie look away, muttering to herself as she wiped the table.

David smiled warmly. "It's okay."

Yvette thought about what David had just said, that she was the only one who could tell them apart at a glance.

She liked Albert so much, she definitely wouldn't mistake him.

Yvette pursed her lips. "You guys are pretty easy to tell apart."

They chatted casually for a bit. David turned around, his attention caught by the picture frames hanging in the living room.

He slowly walked over, looking up at the photos. The pictures documented Yvette's life from childhood to adulthood. Even though she was always standing in the corner of the photos, David's eyes always found her.

David pointed to a photo. "This was when we first met, right?"

Following his pointing finger, Yvette saw a family photo. Her father was still alive then, and Wayne and Lassie had come back from the city, making this picture.

Yvette was a bit surprised. "How did you know?"

"I remember you wearing that dress," David said with a smile. "Later, you had a fight with Albert, fell into a ditch, and tore the dress. You cried a lot and asked him to compensate you."

David seemed lost in the memory, a smile playing at the corners of his eyes.

Yvette was taken aback. Back then, she could express her emotions freely in front of Albert and David.

She lowered her gaze. The one who remembered these things was David.

Yvette reached for the picture frame, but as she took it down from the hook, she fumbled, and the frame started to fall.

"Careful."

Yvette quickly tried to catch it, and David, with quick reflexes, reached out as well. As Yvette's hand touched the frame, she felt her hand being held.

David's hand was warm and slightly damp, holding hers.

But Yvette didn't pay attention to that; she quickly grasped the frame. "I almost didn't catch it."

Her dad was in the picture, and she didn't want it to fall.

A fleeting emotion crossed David's eyes, but he quickly withdrew his hand, still smiling gently. "I thought you had become a lady, but you're still so reckless."

Yvette glared at him. "Weren't you here to use the bathroom?"

As David walked into the bathroom, Lassie, who had been pretending to clean while secretly watching them, seized the moment and pulled Yvette aside.

She peeked a few times towards the bathroom, making sure David had locked the door, then lowered her voice to ask Yvette, "David seems a bit off."

Yvette looked at Lassie, puzzled. "What's off about him?"

"Does he like you? I saw the way he looks at you; it's full of affection." Lassie tugged at Yvette's sleeve. "You should keep your distance from him, or you'll make Albert angry."

"Do you know what you're saying?" Yvette was speechless. "Why would Albert be angry?"

"If he misunderstands your relationship with David, he'll definitely be angry." Lassie said seriously. "Trust me, he definitely likes you."

Yvette found it impossible to believe and impatiently shook off Lassie's hand. "Alright, stop guessing, okay?"

"Trust me on this!"

Just as Lassie finished speaking, David came out of the bathroom, and Lassie immediately fell silent.

Yvette walked up to him. "Are you done?"

"Yes. It's getting late, so I'll be going now."

"Leaving so soon?" Lassie's eyes darted around, and she walked over to David. "Aren't you going to stay a bit longer? You and Albert are so similar. When Albert brings Yvette back, he also just stays for a bit and then leaves, worried about disturbing her rest."

"I won't stay long, ma'am," David said politely with a smile. "I'll come by for a proper visit next time."

"Yvette is now expecting the Valdemar family's first child, and Albert is very concerned. I'm here to take care of her, so he can be at ease." Lassie suddenly said, sounding very deliberate. "When the baby is born, we'll invite you all over to see the little one!"

Yvette looked embarrassed, trying to interrupt Lassie, but to no avail.

David was momentarily stunned, looking at Yvette in surprise. After a while, he regained his composure, smiling as usual.

A flicker of emotion passed through his eyes as he softly asked, "You're pregnant?"

Yvette bit her lip awkwardly and nodded. "Yes."

"Congratulations. I'll need to get you a gift." David's gaze swept over Yvette's flat stomach. "I'll be going now. Take care and rest well."

The old street at night, with its dim streetlights, added a touch of life.

David walked calmly under the streetlights, his eyelashes casting shadows under the light.

As he walked, he suddenly heard Yvette's voice from behind. "Wait up!"

David paused and turned to look at her, surprised. "Yvette? What are you doing here?"

Yvette hurriedly ran up to him, opening her palm to reveal a men's wristwatch. "You took off your watch when you washed your hands and forgot to take it."

"I left it for your mom, and she said it looked nice," David said with a smile. "I didn't bring any gifts, just took it as a visiting gift, okay?."

He glanced at her stomach again and added, "You're pregnant, so you shouldn't be running up and down the stairs."

"That's not okay!" Yvette quickly shoved the watch into David's hand. "You can't just leave such an expensive item behind."

David shrugged indifferently. "It's not that expensive where I come from."

"Still, it's not okay!" Yvette insisted firmly. "Take it back; I won't accept it."

David chuckled softly. "Yvette, do you really need to be so formal with me?"

Yvette didn't hesitate. "Of course, it's necessary."
