Chapter 246 Yvette Hugged Albert from Behind
When hanging out with friends, time just zoomed by. Sylvia stuck around until after dinner before heading out.
After saying goodbye to Sylvia, Yvette felt like it was the best day she'd had in ages.
They chatted for hours, and Sylvia brought up stuff Yvette had never even considered. Somehow, Sylvia gave Yvette a lot of hope.
After a shower, Yvette couldn't stop thinking about what Sylvia had said. Eventually, she got up and went downstairs.
The Valdemar house was super quiet at night. Yvette sat on the couch, feeling restless, flipping through TV channels out of boredom.
She kept checking the clock. It was getting late, but no one was home yet.
Finally, Yvette gave up. She turned off the TV and stood up, just as the video doorbell lit up.
Someone was here.
Before the maid could get to the door, Yvette had already opened the access system.
Soon enough, Albert, the person Yvette had been waiting for, showed up at the entrance.
Yvette blinked, almost doubting her eyes. She wondered if her anticipation had somehow made Albert come back.
Yvette quickly grabbed a pair of slippers and handed them to Albert. "You're back."
Albert nodded without much expression.
He changed into the slippers and casually took off his suit jacket. Yvette, quick on her feet, took it before he could hand it to the maid.
She carefully shook out and hung up Albert's jacket, smoothing out the creases, but she felt really uneasy inside.
Lately, no matter her actions, Albert seemed to perceive them as attempts to please him, making her worry about annoying him with today's particularly conspicuous efforts.
To her surprise, Albert just straightened his cuffs, put on the slippers, and walked in.
Yvette felt a bit relieved, her expression softened, and the corners of her lips lifted slightly.
Feeling a bit happier because of his softened attitude, Yvette followed closely behind Albert. "Are you hungry? Want something to eat? Are you staying tonight?"
Albert shook his head. "No, I'll go straight upstairs to rest."
"Okay, I'll bring you a glass of water," Yvette replied.
Back in the room, Albert quickly took a shower.
After a day filled with meetings, he needed to relax.
However, upon stepping out of the bathroom and spotting Yvette approaching with a glass of water, Albert was slightly puzzled.
What was up with her today?
Albert took the water but didn't speak or drink right away.
Seeing his confused look, Yvette quickly explained, "It's just some sleepy-time tea leaves. They'll help you catch some z's. There's nothing funky in it."
Albert was taken aback, remembering the tension between them after that dinner last time, and his expression became a bit awkward.
He responded lightly and drank it.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a small cartoon figurine on the bedside table. Albert paused. "What's this?"
"Sylvia gave it to me," Yvette smiled, looking really pleased. "Isn't it cute?"
Albert nodded, a look of understanding dawning on his face.
It seemed Sylvia had come by today, and their chatting and playing had really lifted Yvette's spirits.
This was one of those rare nights where they lay together peacefully, even though Albert had his back to her.
Yvette lay in bed, moonlight streaming in, casting a soft glow on Albert's broad back. In a daze, she felt a sudden, inexplicable urge.
Without thinking, she moved closer and hugged Albert from behind.
Feeling his back stiffen, Yvette thought he was going to get mad and instinctively let go and moved back, but to her surprise, Albert grabbed her hand.
His palm was warm, giving Yvette some encouragement. She pressed her face against his back.
Albert turned around, pulling Yvette into his arms without giving her any space to breathe, and kissed her.
Yvette half-closed her eyes, taking in his lowered gaze, the dreamy look, and the heavy breathing.
She hadn't felt such a gentle Albert in a long time. He kissed her features and distinct collarbones with his soft lips.
The same scent of body wash on both of them mingled together, and Albert's slightly damp hair clung to Yvette's cheek.
In a daze, Yvette felt both happy and puzzled.
Tonight, it seemed like they had returned to how they used to be.
On the following afternoon, after lunch, Yvette brought a plate of fruit upstairs.
In the hallway, Cheryl remarked meaningfully, "Yvette, you seem quite happy today?"
"Not bad." Yvette smiled. "You should be happy too."
As soon as she entered the room, Sylvia's call came through.
"Yvette, your birthday's around the corner. How about we sneak in a quick trip to celebrate?"
Yvette was tempted but hesitant. "I live with the Valdemar family now, so I'm not sure if I can just go out and have fun."
"Then ask." Sylvia laughed, "Birthdays come once a year, we should celebrate it with joy."
"Okay, I'll ask." Yvette agreed and hung up the phone.
It seemed Sylvia could also tell that she wasn't happy living with the Valdemar family.
Just as Yvette was hesitating about whether to talk to Cheryl about it, the door suddenly opened, and Yvette looked up to see Albert walking in.
Seeing Albert at the Valdemar family home at this time surprised and delighted Yvette. "You're back?"
Albert nodded and walked straight up to Yvette. "Pack a few sets of clothes."
Yvette was a bit confused by his words. She looked at him, puzzled, but didn't dare to question or ask.
Albert was silent for a moment and then explained, which was rare. "The Valdemar Group's sponsored elementary school is finished. We're expected to be present at an event. If you're free, you're welcome to join."
"Did James say I should go?" Yvette blurted out.
"No." Albert frowned, his voice instantly turning cold. "If you don't want to go, forget it."
"No." Yvette quickly explained, "I didn't mean it."
She was just a bit surprised and couldn't believe that Albert wanted to take her out.
Albert's face remained cold. "Pack a few simple, casual outfits."
"Sure!" Yvette agreed.
Yvette immediately opened the closet door in the dressing room, comparing outfits in front of the mirror to see which ones were suitable.
Seeing Yvette so happy, Albert's expression finally softened.
Catching a glimpse of his own unconsciously upturned mouth in the mirror, Albert was startled and quickly composed his expression.
