Chapter 365 Mr. Valdemar, the last goodbye

On the hotel bed, Yvette curled up tightly, hugging herself.

Not knowing what she was dreaming about, Yvette clutched the hem of her clothes, her forehead beaded with sweat, and her body began to tremble slightly.

Suddenly, the suffocating darkness of the dream enveloped her.

Yvette struggled and abruptly woke up, drenched in sweat as if she'd been pulled from the water.

Her lips pale, she was still immersed in the agony and fear of near-death.

Feeling utterly exhausted, Yvette gasped for breath as waves of heartache wracked her. Despite her efforts, the suffocating pain and fragments of the nightmare wouldn't leave her mind.

Yvette tried to move her fatigued limbs, only to find herself tightly held. The sense of confinement jolted her back to reality—she was in Albert's arms. His familiar scent filled her nostrils, bringing a strangely comforting calm.

Bright lights from the party hall downstairs filtered through the curtains, illuminating Yvette's face. She turned to meet Albert's deep, concerned gaze. He held her tighter, shaken by her earlier distress, knowing only a tremendous shock could have caused her prolonged memory loss.

Forcing her to recall such darkness and pain was undoubtedly a second trauma.

Her stress reaction showed she hadn't yet moved on from that event.

She didn't want to remember, and truthfully, neither did he. He feared her once more rejecting him and leaving him.

Sensing Albert's emotional turmoil, Yvette blinked and asked, "Why aren't you downstairs?"

Her voice was hoarse, each word weak. Swallowing to ease her throat, she asked again, "Don't you have business to discuss? Aren't they waiting for you?"

Albert gently caressed her cheek and kissed her forehead. "Because I'm afraid."

His voice was just as hoarse.

Yvette was taken aback.

Albert rubbed his chin against her neck, the slight stubble pricking but not annoying her.

"I have a bad feeling," Albert said, his voice tight with undisguised unease. "I'm afraid if I leave, you'll run away."

Pulling her closer, he whispered in her ear, "I don't want to lose you again, not for a second."

Yvette closed her eyes, unable to deny it, as she was ready to leave at any moment.

She took a deep breath and exhaled softly. "I'm so tired."

"I know," Albert soothed. "There are a few more days of the party. Just rest."

"Okay." Snuggling into his chest, she pushed away any further thoughts.

Today's events were just an interlude, a reminder not to forget the painful memories that drove her to leave with her child.

With eyes shut and lashes trembling, Yvette controlled her emotions. These painful memories fueled her determination to leave. Gradually, she calmed down, leaning on Albert and listening to his steady heartbeat.

Suddenly, Albert's phone on the nightstand began to vibrate wildly, shattering the silence.

Yvette shivered, sensing something was wrong.

Albert answered, and Vincent's frantic voice came through. "Mr. Valdemar, the children are missing."

When Albert, who was standing very close to Yvette, answered the phone, he hadn't anticipated such news and didn't move away.

Vincent's voice leaked from the receiver, reaching both their ears and stunning them.

Yvette froze, trying to grab the phone, but Albert stopped her.

His eyes darkened, his calm returning quickly after a flash of panic.

Gripping her hand, he put the call on speakerphone. "Don't panic. Let's hear what happened."

Yvette, nearly jumping out of bed in her panic, shouted, "Give me the phone!!"

Seeing how uncontrollably agitated she was, Albert quickly rolled over and used his body to restrain her.

Fearing she might hurt herself, he held her down.

Albert gently patted Yvette and reassured her. "I'll handle this. Calm down."

"Tell me," he said to Vincent.

Having been through many dangerous situations with Albert, Vincent quickly regained his composure. "The children went to kindergarten today. A maid took them early, and when the other maid, Beatrice Grace, went to pick them up at the normal time, their stories don't match. She took them couldn't be reached."

Yvette felt an indescribable pain, as if a heavy stone crushed her heart, making it feel as if even her breaths carried the scent of blood.

Her voice shaking, she asked, "Where did Beatrice take them?"

Vincent paused before replying, "We're investigating."

Albert asked sharply, "Any other clues?"

Vincent answered, "I found out Beatrice's family disappeared. She was likely threatened, so the children might have been kidnapped."

In the dead silence, pain like poison seeped through Yvette's every organ. She curled up in agony, biting her hand to muffle the pain, but couldn't stop the ache in her heart.

Albert was terrified by what he saw. She had already fainted once from shock, and this news hit her again.

Albert was extremely regretful. If he had known, he would have taken Vincent's call away from her and told her only after everything was sorted out.

Quickly, Albert dropped the phone and held Yvette in his arms, hoping to calm her with his warmth.

But the next second, Yvette had already fainted again.

Albert shouted, "Yvette!!!"
