Chapter 530 The Gift in the Safe
The sun began its descent toward the horizon, casting golden rays across the sky and bathing the world in a warm, gentle glow that streamed through the windows of the Valdemar Mansion.
In the kitchen, Albert was busy with BoBo and CiCi. Still dressed in his white dress shirt from a recent video conference, he had rolled up his sleeves to reveal his toned forearms as he cracked eggs with practiced ease. The sunlight highlighted the sharp angles of his profile while he worked with focused precision.
Beside him, BoBo and CiCi wore vibrant cartoon aprons and adorable children's chef hats, their expressions serious with concentration. CiCi carefully poured fine sugar into the egg whites, while BoBo diligently stirred the egg yolks.
From her place on the sofa, Yvette watched the three of them quietly, a contented smile playing on her lips.
The excitement and joy radiating from their faces as they created what seemed to be the world's most important cake filled her heart with satisfaction.
She knew these moments of togetherness would become precious memories for her children.
The evening light enveloped Yvette in a warm golden glow as she observed their every movement. Suddenly, Albert looked up and caught her eye. Their gazes locked across the room, each seeing the love reflected in the other's eyes.
Albert's lips curved into a smile as he turned to the children. "Are you two finished with your parts?"
"Yes!" CiCi looked up excitedly, a smudge of flour on her nose. "Daddy, can we start baking now?"
"Almost," Albert replied. "Just pour the batter into the molds and then into the oven, and we're done."
"Great! Let's do it together!"
As the children carefully completed their task, Albert dusted his hands, smiling with satisfaction. "All right, kids, the cake is in the oven's hands now. Let's wash up and keep your mommy company."
"Yay!" The children cheered as they raced to the bathroom.
Albert walked over to Yvette and settled beside her, draping his arm around her shoulders.
Yvette glanced at him with a teasing smile. "That expensive tailored shirt wasn't meant for baking cakes."
"You wouldn't expect the birthday boy to wear an apron, would you?" Albert countered with a raised eyebrow.
Yvette laughed softly, her eyes twinkling. "The birthday boy should be hosting a party and eating a cake I made for him."
Today was Albert's birthday—an occasion he rarely celebrated in the past. This time, however, he had suggested spending it with her and the children.
Yvette knew he was creating an opportunity for them to share this day together, to make it more meaningful.
"It's fine. I don't mind making it myself," Albert exhaled slowly, his eyes serious as they held hers. "Having you back is already the best birthday gift I could ask for."
Yvette's heart swelled with emotion as she gazed at him. During the explosion and her time locked in that dark, damp basement—constantly injected with unknown substances—she had thought she would die.
In those moments, she'd realized how deeply she loved Albert and how desperately she wanted to return to him.
Her greatest regret had been locking away the photographs that proved her children's parentage in a safe. She had feared dying and leaving her children misunderstood, with no one to care for them.
Thankfully, Albert had genuinely loved them, and miraculously, she had survived to tell him the truth.
Yvette swallowed hard, her palms slightly damp with nervousness. "Actually," she said softly, "I have an even better birthday gift for you."
Albert leaned forward, pressing his soft lips gently against her forehead. "Nothing could be better than having you back."
"Then this would be the second-best gift," Yvette replied with a meaningful look. "Would you mind wheeling me back to our room, to my safe?"
