Chapter 379 I Want to Take Care of You Until You Get Better

At that moment, Albert understood his deepest feelings: no matter what, he couldn't bear to lose Yvette again. Since he wasn't paralyzed, he wouldn't suppress his emotions or push her away.

Albert even thought despicably that if it meant keeping her by his side, pretending to be paralyzed for a lifetime wouldn't be difficult. His chiseled face lowered slightly, the light above highlighting his pallor.

Seeing his discomfort, Yvette's heart tightened with guilt. If she hadn't chatted with the kids for so long, she would have noticed his discomfort in his legs earlier.

The thought of him enduring unbearable pain and not being able to find her, having to call Vincent instead, made her anxious.

Yvette squatted in front of his wheelchair, tightly holding his hands, and lay on his legs, looking up at him.

Their gazes met, and Albert saw the worry and heartache on Yvette's face.

Yvette's eyes were firm as she reassured him, "No matter how the illness progresses, I will stay with you, don't worry."

Seeing the emotions surging in Albert's eyes, Yvette thought he was holding back his sadness. She tightened her grip on his hands, as if giving him strength and confidence.

Albert's muscles tensed under her bright gaze, feeling like the world's biggest villain.

She cared for him so much, how could he deceive her with his condition?

"Actually, I..." Albert's voice was hoarse as if it had been ground by gravel. He wanted to tell her the truth.

"Mr. Valdemar is hungry!" Vincent's voice interrupted Albert. "Dr. Cunningham has already checked him. His condition hasn't worsened, but on the way back, Mr. Valdemar said he was hungry."

Both Yvette and Albert were taken aback.

Yvette frowned. "Leg numbness caused by hunger?"

"No, Mrs. Valdemar," Vincent said seriously. "Dr. Cunningham said the leg numbness might be due to poor blood circulation, nothing serious, and it's already better. On the way back, Mr. Valdemar mentioned he was hungry. I also need to discuss some work matters with him. Could you please get him something to eat?"

The unrelated statements seemed somewhat reasonable.

Yvette nodded. "Okay, I'll go get it."

Yvette was about to leave with her phone but turned back to remind, "Don't work too hard tonight. He said he's tired and sleepy, so give him more time to rest."

Vincent answered, "Yes, Mrs. Valdemar."

Watching Yvette leave the room, Albert's blood was boiling.

The emotions in Yvette's eyes when she turned back to remind him felt like an invisible rope, binding him tightly, making him want to stay by her side.

He felt her genuine emotions for him through her eyes.

The undeniable excitement slowly flowed, causing Albert's lips to curl up unconsciously.

As the door closed, the warmth in Albert's eyes suddenly disappeared. He glanced at Vincent coldly. "Why did you stop me?"

Vincent broke into a cold sweat. "I was afraid you'd act impulsively and regret it later."

"Regret?" Albert sneered. "Why would I regret it?"

"You've never regretted anything in your work," Vincent cleared his throat. "But in matters of the heart, you've always had regrets. You should listen to Dr. Cunningham."

A trace of discomfort flashed across Albert's face.

Vincent continued, "After all, Dr. Cunningham is adept in matters of the heart. You could learn from his advice in this area."

Albert's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. He glared at Vincent but didn't insist further.

Soon, Yvette returned with some food.

Albert wasn't hungry, but seeing Yvette busying herself and bringing the food to him, he ate it bite by bite.

Seeing Vincent had left, Yvette asked, "Vincent left? You don't have to work tonight?"

"Yes," Albert replied softly. "No work tonight."

Albert's calm voice surprised Yvette.

Recently, while she was taking care of him in the hospital, he always exuded a cold aura, using his most indifferent side to push her away.

But tonight, he seemed peaceful, as if he no longer resisted her care.

Yvette looked at Albert. "Then rest early tonight. If you feel uncomfortable, call me anytime. I'll be right beside you."

"Okay." Albert agreed.

After Albert finished eating, Yvette tidied up and started massaging his legs.

This was a daily routine. Usually, Albert would impatiently refuse her, but today he let her massage him.

Yvette looked up at Albert a few times in confusion. "You're not pushing me away?"

Albert's body stiffened, a trace of discomfort flashed across his face, and he pressed his lips together without answering. His reaction gave Yvette some comfort.

While massaging him, she said, "I'm happy you're not pushing me away. I said I would stay with you and work hard together, and I will. You should accept the treatment well; there will be a day when you get better."

Albert lowered his eyes, his eyelashes hiding the complex emotions in his eyes.

Yvette continued, "I'm not pitying you, nor am I feeling sorry for you. Maybe part of it is because you saved BoBo and CiCi, but more importantly, I know you need me."

Yvette's soft voice conveyed her heartfelt thoughts, hoping he wouldn't resist her care anymore. "I just hope you don't regret saving the two kids."

"I don't." Albert's words were firm.

Yvette's expression softened, trying to suppress the gratitude in her heart.

Even though Albert didn't believe BoBo and CiCi were his children, she knew that Albert had inadvertently saved his own biological children.

The fact that he could do this, even if he was paralyzed, without regret, deeply moved Yvette.

"Thank you." Yvette's eyes involuntarily stung, her emotions almost overwhelming her. "Albert, please don't push me away, okay? I want to take care of you until you get better."

Yvette's sincere words made Albert clench his fists.

"Yvette." Albert looked up, gazing into her eyes. "If I really can't stand up for the rest of my life, if I'm no longer the head of the Valdemar Family, and can only be a useless person, unable to take care of myself, what then?"
