Chapter 490 Another Child Gone

Leaving Clifford's hospital room, Yvette was lost in thought.

Gabrielle had said they couldn't send her back to the Valdemar family because they were scared of Albert's revenge.

But if they were using her as a hostage, why give her those injections and weird meds?

Yvette thought for a moment and secretly took out the pills she had hidden under her pillow.

There were too many similar-looking pills, and without the bottles, she couldn't tell them apart.

Taking advantage of the fact that no one was watching her room, Yvette carefully got out of bed.

Though still very weak, she insisted on walking out slowly.

There weren't many doctors passing by, so Yvette seized the moment when a bespectacled male doctor walked past and grabbed his arm.

The doctor was startled. "Whoa, what's up?"

Yvette apologized, "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Doctor, I need to know what kind of medication I've been taking."

She opened her palm, revealing the pills she had hidden.

The doctor glanced at her room number, opened the folder in his hand, and carefully searched through it.

"Let me see, we have records of everything here." His finger moved up and down the page, finally stopping at a point. "These are all supplements, probably because your body is very weak. Our doctors tend to prescribe strong doses, but don't worry, there won't be any side effects. Just take them as directed."

Yvette grew anxious. "But I'm pregnant. I don't want to take too many medications. Even the best medicine can be harmful..."

Hearing Yvette mention her pregnancy, the doctor's face turned awkward.

"Ms. Orlando, there's no need to worry."

Yvette's heart sank, realizing something was wrong. She pressed on, "What do you mean?"

The doctor nervously adjusted his glasses. "When you were brought in, you had suffered a severe fall due to the explosion. The baby... didn't make it."

The doctor didn't dare continue, as Yvette's face turned even paler.

Her baby was gone?

The doctor continued with a rehearsed tone of comfort, "Ms. Orlando, try not to think too much. Surviving such an explosion is already a miracle. You're still young; you'll have more chances in the future..."

The doctor's mouth kept moving, but Yvette couldn't hear a word he was saying.

All she knew was that her and Albert's baby was gone.

Gabrielle pushed open the door to Yvette's room, but the bed was empty.

She looked up to see Yvette standing by the window.

Yvette stood alone, her gaze filled with sorrow as she looked out at the desolate landscape, a wave of indescribable pain washing over her.

This was the second child she and Albert had lost.

Hearing the door, Yvette slowly turned around, her eyes vacant.

Gabrielle stood at the door, hesitant to approach because of the pain in Yvette's eyes.

Yvette blinked, her dry lips moving slightly, her voice hoarse and helpless. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Gabrielle was taken aback. "Tell you what?"

"My baby is gone, isn't it?" Yvette placed her hand on her abdomen, mourning the life that had never fully formed. "Even if you wanted to keep me here, I had the right to know about my own body, didn't I?"

Gabrielle looked at Yvette, her eyes filled with complex emotions. She sighed and spoke slowly, "I don't know how you found out, but I do owe you an apology. I kept it from you."

Yvette's eyes reddened with emotion. "That was my child. Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I've lost children too!" Gabrielle's eyes also filled with tears. "After having Clifford, his father and I wanted more children, but I had several miscarriages. So I understand how painful it is to know."

Gabrielle looked at her with compassion. "I didn't tell you because I knew you were very fragile at the time. I didn't want you to endure more pain. As a woman, I didn't want you to face such a cruel reality in your weakened state. It wouldn't have been good for your recovery."

Yvette shook her head, unsure of what to say.

It was all a fact now. Blaming Gabrielle wouldn't change anything.

Seeing Yvette's sorrow, Gabrielle gently comforted her. "I know you're hurting right now, but believe me, time heals all wounds. You're a strong woman, and you'll get through this."

Yvette took a deep breath, trying to hold back her sadness. "Gabrielle, Mr. Clifford Hayes saved my life, so don't worry. I won't let my husband harm the Hayes family, especially not Mr. Clifford Hayes. I'm still very weak, and I've lost my baby. I need to tell my husband these things myself. I hope you'll let me go home."

Hearing Yvette's request to return to the Valdemar family, Gabrielle's kindness and concern vanished. "Ms. Orlando, I know you're upset, but I hope you can understand my position..."

"I promise I'll come every day to take care of Mr. Clifford Hayes. I'll have my husband find the best specialists to treat him. I'll be here every day until he wakes up."

Gabrielle looked at Yvette in silence for a long moment before sighing deeply. "Since you're so insistent, I know I can't keep you here. I'll let you go home."

When Gabrielle finally relented, a glimmer of joy flickered across Yvette's face, like a ray of sunlight piercing the morning fog.

Her eyes sparkled with gratitude, her voice trembling slightly. "Really? You'll really let me go home?"

"Yes, after all, that's your home. As for Clifford, I guess fate has its own plans for everyone." Gabrielle sighed deeply, her face full of worry.

Yvette nodded. "Don't worry, I'll find a way."

"In a few days, I'll contact your husband Albert to come get you."

Yvette was taken aback. "A few days? Can't it be now?"

"He's not in the country right now, he's abroad for work. You can check his schedule in the news, I'm sure you know." Gabrielle showed Yvette a news article on her phone about Albert's business trip.

"Then let his assistant come get me!" Yvette said urgently.

"That's not possible." Gabrielle looked her in the eye. "Ms. Orlando, you were kidnapped and caught in an explosion because you have enemies. My son risked his life to save you. I can't just hand you over to someone else, do you understand?"
