Chapter 295 She Remembered, She is Yvette

The night streets were jam-packed with cars, their red brake lights stretching out like a never-ending ribbon. Yvette sat in the passenger seat, staring out the window, lost in thought.

She couldn't shake the image of the family photo hanging on the wall, the one with five smiling faces, one of which mirrored her own. It left her feeling a bit adrift.

The car finally pulled into the hotel parking lot.

Yvette's voice was raspy; she didn't bother with a thank you or goodbye, just headed straight into the hotel.

It was late, and on her way back, she had let the driver who was helping with Christina and Lester go, needing to return to the kids promptly.

As she reached the elevator, Yvette noticed Albert trailing behind her. Too exhausted to say anything, she just glanced back and let it slide. After all, the kids were his niece and nephew; he wouldn't hurt them.

Swiping the card to open the door, the kids immediately rushed up to her.

"Mommy! We missed you so much!" Lester and Christina chorused.

Seeing the kids, Yvette felt some of her fatigue melt away. "Good, the driver left, right?"

Lester nodded. "Yeah, he just left, and then you came back."

Christina spotted Albert behind Yvette and ran over excitedly. "Daddy! You came too!"

Lester followed suit, looking over and rushing up. "Daddy, I took good care of Mommy and CiCi!"

Albert tensed up, avoiding the kids' eyes.

"You're mistaken," Yvette said, her throat tightening. She licked her dry lips. "This is your uncle, your daddy's brother."

Lester and Christina immediately backed off. "Sorry."

Lester, looking like he had done something wrong, had bright, stubborn eyes. "Mommy, sorry! I didn't mean to mistake him for Daddy!"

"It's okay." Yvette patted their heads. "When Daddy comes, Mommy will tell you."

"Okay!"

Seeing the three of them eagerly waiting for David's return, Albert couldn't help but clench his fists.

Christina looked at Albert curiously. "Uncle, are you here to sleep with us and Mommy?"

Lester retorted, "Silly CiCi! Uncle can't sleep with us and Mommy, only Daddy can."

Albert's eyes softened, and he said quietly, "I brought your mother back."

"Thank you, Uncle." Lester looked up at him. "You took care of us and Mommy, Daddy will thank you when he comes back."

Albert's throat tightened, a sour feeling filling his heart, and a dull ache in his chest.

As Albert thought about how these two kids belonged to David, and how Yvette and David had been married for years, it felt like a weight crushing his heart.

Albert's jaw tightened, and he closed his eyes.

But it's a relief that she didn't die and that she's back.

When Albert opened his eyes, his emotions were under control. He pursed his lips and looked at Yvette. "Pack up, I'll have Vincent come to pick you up tomorrow."

Yvette's body stiffened, pretending not to hear him. "Say goodbye to your uncle, you two."

"Goodbye, Uncle!" Lester and Christina said in unison.

Albert smirked.

He thought, 'Pretending not to hear? It's okay, there's plenty of time.'

He squatted down and said in a deep voice to the kids, "See you tomorrow."

After Albert left, Yvette took the kids to the bathroom.

As she put waterproof shower caps on them, her mind kept replaying the scene of Albert kissing her, and how she didn't push him away immediately.

Who was she?

Why did her body reject David but accept Albert, even liking his kiss?

Yvette felt a pang of shame, and it made her question her identity, but she didn't dare ask David.

David had told her she was Jessica, the woman he had saved from rock bottom. He was so good to her, never forcing her into anything, and he treated her kids like his own. How could she doubt him?

Albert had mentioned that the Orlando family would be back in thirteen days and they could do a paternity test then.

Thirteen days. Should she wait?

"Mommy! The bubbles got in my eyes!" Christina whined, snapping Yvette out of her thoughts.

Realizing she had been distracted while bathing the kids, Yvette quickly refocused. "Sorry, Mommy didn't mean to."

She wrapped the kids in towels and brought them back to bed. They put on their pajamas and snuggled up beside her.

Yvette gently patted them, and sleepiness began to take over.

Lester, half-asleep, mumbled, "Mommy, where is Uncle taking you? Back to Daddy's house?"

Yvette's hand paused. "Uncle is taking Mommy to work. Now sleep, don't think too much."

"Okay."

Lester drifted off, but his question left Yvette wide awake.

Where was Albert taking her?

Late at night, Yvette lay in bed with the kids sleeping soundly beside her.

A flash of lightning lit up the room, followed by a rumble of thunder and the sound of heavy rain against the window.

"Yvette!"

Who was Yvette? Who was calling her?

"The birth control pills have been given. If you still get pregnant with an unwanted child, then get rid of it."

"Take the birth control pills on time. If you dare to get pregnant on purpose, I'll personally take you for an abortion."

"I want you to divorce Yvette and marry me."

"Sure."

In her sleep, Yvette frowned, her body tensed, and she trembled slightly.

A tear slipped from the corner of her eye, and her breathing became rapid, as if she were drowning, her face flushed.

She clutched her nightgown at her chest, murmuring in pain.

"No, no, I'm not Yvette!"

A flash of lightning illuminated her struggling face through the not fully closed curtains.

She was trapped in a nightmare, wanting to escape but unable to wake up.

In the dream, she saw it all: Albert's deep hatred. He swore to prevent her from getting pregnant, threatening an abortion if she did. He declared he wanted a divorce, to send her away from Luken, and to marry Violet.

When she and Violet were kidnapped, and he would rather spend $10 million to ransom Violet than spend $400,000 to save her and the kids.

Yes, he hated her and her kids. Letting the kidnappers end her life was just solving a problem for him.

But why was he so heartless?

Those were their kids!

Listening to the pouring rain outside, she felt like she was back on that bridge, feeling the pain and suffocation of jumping into the river while clutching her stomach.

Her nose filled with cold river water, and the suffocation made her almost unable to hold on.

Fortunately, she had the kids, and the instinct to protect them made her try hard to persist.

But it hurt so much, it really hurt.

A clap of thunder jolted Yvette awake from her nightmare.

She opened her eyes, her entire body drenched in sweat, chest rising and falling rapidly, tears flowing down her face, blending with the sweat, leaving her wet and sticky.

She remembered. She was Yvette.

It was Albert who had abandoned her and the kids.
