Chapter 253 Yvette is Pregnant Again
After Albert got Yvette settled, he went to check the meeting agenda with the staff.
Yvette sat on a chair at the side of the conference hall, feeling a bit uneasy.
The whole place was packed, and everyone seemed to be staring at her with different expressions. She had just come to drop off some documents for Albert, but his personal acknowledgment had drawn way more attention than she expected.
Albert finally came back, ignoring the stares, and sat right next to Yvette.
He took a sip of water and asked, "Did you need something?"
Yvette nodded and handed him the documents. "I came to give you these."
Albert glanced at them, furrowing his brow. "Didn't I ask Vincent to bring these?"
"He said he was busy with other projects and didn't trust anyone else to deliver them, so I brought them myself," Yvette explained, looking down. "Your conference hall doesn't allow non-employees in."
Albert nodded. "Yeah, it's a confidential meeting."
Seeing Albert's slightly serious expression, Yvette quickly added, "I didn't mean to bother the staff, but you didn't answer my call."
Albert looked surprised. "I silenced my phone for the meeting."
"No big deal," Yvette said, feeling a bit relieved. "As long as you have them now, my job's done."
Albert's expression softened. "Thanks."
Yvette stood up. "I should get going."
"Alright, let me walk you out."
They walked side by side in silence.
Yvette thought about the recipes she had picked out and Cheryl's encouragement. After hesitating a few times, she finally bit her lip and asked, "Will your meeting run late tonight?"
"No," Albert replied.
Yvette looked at him hopefully. "Would you like to come home for dinner tonight?"
Albert didn't look at her and said flatly, "No."
"Got it," Yvette said, trying to hide her disappointment as she walked forward.
It was strange. Normally, Yvette was acutely conscious of people's gazes, but in that moment, she was so consumed by disappointment that she didn't even register the stares.
Just as she was about to leave the conference hall, Albert spoke again.
"I'll be on a business trip for a few days after the meeting."
Yvette hesitated and looked up at him. "Yes?"
Albert looked a bit uneasy but quickly composed himself. "Let the driver know to pick me up at the airport when I get back from my business trip and drive me to the Valdemar Villa."
Yvette was momentarily stunned but then realized he was explaining why he wouldn't be coming home tonight.
She nodded, feeling a bit happier. "Got it."
Yvette slowly poured the amber-colored tea into a porcelain cup, filling the air with its fragrance.
She placed the cup in front of Cheryl, her hand trembling slightly, almost spilling the tea.
Cheryl smirked and glanced at Yvette. "Why are you so distracted?"
"Sorry, Grandma," Yvette said awkwardly. "My hand's a bit shaky."
Cheryl, with a knowing look, teased, "Alright, I know you're thinking about Albert. What time is his flight?"
"Four o'clock," Yvette blushed slightly. "It's still early."
Cheryl took a sip of tea and asked, "Are you going to pick him up with Milton?"
"No," Yvette explained, "I plan to learn a couple of dishes today, so I don't have time to pick him up."
Cheryl laughed heartily. "Alright, I'm glad you're willing to learn to cook for Albert. Just go ahead and study, since you can't focus on pouring tea here, and you might burn yourself later."
"Okay." Yvette's thoughts had already been seen through by Cheryl, so she didn't hide it any longer. She nodded and said, "I'll go to the kitchen to prepare the ingredients."
Before Albert's business trip, Yvette had already learned a few dishes. Once there was a basic understanding of cooking and the steps involved, learning became much faster.
Yvette had already studied the recipes herself, and after listening to the housemaid Ruby Reed's explanation, she felt even more confident.
Ruby brought over a bag of fresh beef brisket, unpacking it while saying, "This brisket doesn't need to be cut too small. Cut along the grain, and it will be more tender."
As she spoke, Ruby washed the beef and placed it on the cutting board in front of Yvette.
The smell of raw beef mixed with a slight hint of blood immediately hit Yvette's nose. She had never realized that the smell of raw meat could be so unbearable.
A wave of nausea surged up, and Yvette quickly covered her nose with her hand.
But the physiological reaction of retching was uncontrollable, and Yvette immediately put down the knife.
Unable to make it to the bathroom, Yvette had to lean over an unused trash can and vomit.
Fortunately, she hadn't eaten much at noon due to the hot weather and lack of appetite. After dry heaving for a while, she didn't throw up much.
Ruby patted Yvette's back, concerned. "Are you okay? Did you eat too little at noon and upset your stomach?"
Yvette wanted to explain, but the relentless waves of nausea rendered her unable to respond. She gestured with her hand, signaling her discomfort.
Ruby quickly said, "I'll handle the kitchen. You can learn next time. Go rest for now."
With that, Ruby called over two other maids to help Yvette out of the kitchen.
Back in her room, Yvette drank some water, trying to suppress the recurring nausea.
She paused, put down the water, and turned to rummage through the bedside table. She accidentally knocked over the large bag of items given by Lassie, scattering various medicines and instruments all over the floor.
Yvette quickly spotted a pregnancy test, deftly unwrapping and using it, oblivious to her shaking hands.
It wasn't until Yvette placed the used test on the windowsill that she could gather her thoughts.
Her usually regular period was two days late, and she had stopped taking birth control pills five days before Albert's business trip. They had had unprotected sex several times afterward.
Seeing the two deepening red lines on the test kit, her suspicion was confirmed. She was most likely pregnant again.
Women who had been pregnant were always particularly sensitive to subtle changes in their bodies.
She should have been happy, but her nose couldn't help but feel a bit sour. Yvette hadn't expected to have another child.
Was it the child she had miscarried coming back?
Just as she was about to feel relieved, Albert's words suddenly flashed through her mind, "If you get pregnant, abort it." The cold tone still echoed in her ears, and she almost couldn't hold onto the test kit.
Albert would possibly not let her keep this child, but Yvette wanted this child.
Yvette bit her lip, thinking that maybe it was time to leave.
She turned to put the pregnancy test in her suitcase, about to pack her things, but then remembered Cheryl's words, "Communication is the key to a successful marriage."
Yvette hesitated.
Perhaps this was a chance for her and Albert?
Maybe she should tell Albert first before making a decision.
