Chapter 327 Are you going to take care of David for the rest of your life?

Hearing Yvette's "yes," David finally let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

His throat bobbed. "That's good."

Just having her there was enough. He'd lost everything else; he couldn't lose her too.

Yvette gave him a reassuring smile. "You need to work with the doctors and get better soon."

David's shoulders slumped. "What does 'better' even mean? I can't even stand."

"The doctors are working on a plan. This is just temporary, don't worry," Yvette said.

"Really?" he asked, searching her eyes.

"I'll be with you the whole time. Just focus on getting better," she promised.

David looked at her and nodded. "Okay."

Seeing him calm down, Yvette smiled and stood up. "I'll have someone tidy up the room. Grandma's still outside worrying about you. I'll go get her."

As Yvette stepped out, she saw Cheryl peeking in with a worried look.

Yvette quickly went over to her. "Grandma, David's agreed to cooperate with the treatment. Don't worry, he'll be up soon."

Cheryl's face lit up, and she called for the servant to bring the food. "David must be starving after being out for so long. Go feed him something."

Yvette told the servant to clean up the room and watched as Cheryl held David's hand, trying not to cry. Yvette's own eyes stung with guilt.

The doctors and nurses came in to check on David and change his meds.

Sweat dotted David's forehead from the pain, but he stayed quiet, just gritting his teeth and getting lost in his thoughts.

After they were done, Cheryl opened the food container and served up some oatmeal. "David, you must be hungry. Eat up so you can get better faster."

"Not hungry," David muttered. "Don't bother, I don't want to eat."

Cheryl hesitated, and Yvette took the bowl. "David, you said you'd cooperate. Eating is part of that."

She scooped up some oatmeal, blew on it, and held it to his lips. "Come on, eat."

David was taken back to the past, remembering all the times Yvette fed their kids. He used to joke about wanting her to feed him too, but she'd always roll her eyes and tell him to stop being silly.

When he didn't open his mouth, Yvette moved the spoon closer.

Feeling the warm oatmeal on his lips, David snapped back to the present and took a bite.

Yvette smiled. "That's my good boy!"

She was in full-on mom mode.

David's heart melted. Even though the oatmeal tasted like cardboard, he savored the moment.

As he forced down each spoonful, David realized that what Yvette hadn't done for years, she was now doing because of his injury. Maybe this wasn't all bad.

Cheryl stayed at the hospital all day, but she was getting tired.

With Yvette's gentle urging, Manuel helped her leave the room.Outside the room, Cheryl stood firm, refusing to leave, her lips pressed tightly together.

The doctor's words weighed heavily on her mind.

The thought of David, once so full of life, being paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair was unbearable.

Cheryl's face was etched with sorrow and guilt.

"Albert's incident is mostly my fault. I should have separated them earlier," she said, her voice trembling. "They were never compatible, and I still let David stay. It was a big mistake. I was too selfish. If I hadn't insisted, they would have gone back to Stellaria and avoided this car accident."

Manuel gently patted her back. "Mr. David Valdemar will surely turn misfortune into fortune. He's a blessed person. He's just struggling to accept it right now. Luckily, Mrs. Yvette Valdemar is by his side, promising to take care of him for life."

"Yvette is indeed a good child. I feel sorry for her too," Cheryl sighed heavily.

Not far behind them, Albert overheard their conversation. He glanced thoughtfully at Cheryl before turning his gaze towards the ward.

Inside, Yvette stayed with David for a long time, chatting until he fell asleep. Then she quietly left the room.

She needed to freshen up to have more energy to take care of David. She felt responsible for everything that had happened and needed to check on the kids, worrying they might feel insecure with both her and David gone.

As Yvette stood by the roadside, trying to hail a cab, a familiar car pulled up in front of her.

She paused, watching the window roll down to reveal Albert inside.

"Get in the car," Albert said.

Yvette didn't even look at him and turned to walk away.

Albert quickly parked, unbuckled his seatbelt, and got out to stop her. "Where are you going? I'll take you."

"No need," Yvette replied coldly. "Let go, I have things to do."

Albert persisted. "I said I'll take you."

Yvette, exhausted, frowned at him. "Stop it, I'm really tired and don't want to argue with you."

Albert's eyes darkened. "Yvette, are you really planning to take care of him for life?"

"Of course," Yvette said firmly. "He's my husband. Now that something has happened to him, it's my duty to take care of him for life."

Her unwavering response infuriated Albert. "Don't be impulsive. Think it through, this is a lifetime commitment."

Yvette looked up, her gaze cold. "I've already thought it through."

Her quick response made Albert even angrier. "Do you think it's my fault for being jealous and causing his accident? Do you feel responsible, so you have to take care of him?"

Yvette's face stiffened, but she quickly regained her composure. "This is between me and my husband."

Albert tried to explain, "Yvette, I'll say it again, his car lost control and hit mine. I even suspect he did it on purpose!"

Yvette was shocked that Albert could say something so heartless.

She gritted her teeth. "Albert, he had internal bleeding from the accident. He was lucky to be saved. If the bleeding had been worse, he would have died."

"Who would risk their life to scheme against you?" Yvette couldn't hold back anymore. "You're overestimating yourself."
