Chapter 427 Children's Birth Records
David's expression shifted slightly, but he didn't argue. "Even if I knew it was you, what's wrong with wanting to see you?"
"We've already made things clear between us. If you knew how to avoid suspicion, you shouldn't have come to see me!" Yvette's eyes were cold, her words sharp. "And about the driver, you did that on purpose. Without your consent, would he have dared to keep talking?"
The last trace of warmth in David's eyes vanished. "I didn't mean to embarrass you."
"It doesn't matter." Yvette's gaze was icy. "I'll take all your displeasure and revenge. Consider it my repayment to you."
Yvette's hand hung by her side, her eyes flashing with determination as she turned to leave.
David reached out to stop her, trying to prevent her from leaving.
But Yvette glanced at him coolly, her eyes filled with resolve, forcing his hand back.
David's hand froze in mid-air before he finally withdrew it, watching helplessly as Yvette walked away, his eyes dark and deep.
Yvette left without looking back, her phone in her bag flashing repeatedly, but in her hurry to get to her room, she didn't notice.
Once she was back in her room, Yvette saw that Sylvia had called her multiple times.
Assuming Sylvia wanted to cancel their plans because of work, Yvette casually called her back.
"Sylvia, you can go ahead and work. Don't worry about me," as Yvette spoke, she realized her voice was trembling slightly.
She thought she could remain unaffected.
On the other end, Sylvia sounded anxious, lowering her voice. "Yvette, where are you right now? I need to see you! It's really important!"
Yvette answered, "I'm back in my room."
Not long after Yvette hung up, there was a knock on her door.
Sylvia rushed in, looking tense, grabbing Yvette's hand and panting. "Yvette, your..."
Sylvia started to speak but then abruptly stopped, looking around cautiously. "Where's Albert? He's not here, right?"
"He's not here. You can speak freely." Yvette frowned, realizing that what Sylvia had to say must be very important.
Sylvia nodded. "I need to ask you, did David change your children's birth dates so that everyone, even Albert, would think the kids were his?"
Yvette replied, "Yes."
"And the date David changed it to, when was it?" Sylvia's eyes were filled with anticipation. "This is really important!"
"Late January." Yvette looked at Sylvia, puzzled. "Why?"
Sylvia's face lit up with excitement. "Yvette, I just met the doctor who was in charge when you gave birth at a Valdemar Group international doctors' gathering. He told me clearly that your children were born before Christmas, in December!"
"So, the kids were born when Eldoria was preparing for Christmas?" Yvette looked at Sylvia, confused and uncertain. "I was only awake for a few months then, my body and mind were severely traumatized, and I spent almost all my time in my room. I can't remember any of it now."
Back then, Yvette had forgotten everything, including her own identity, and could only follow David's instructions. When he told her she was Jessica, she believed it. When he said she needed to rest and couldn't go out for the sake of the children, she never left the villa.
"You may not remember, but the doctors do!" Sylvia took out her phone and held it up to Yvette. "I got the doctor's number. You can call him right now. But I'm not sure if he'll help you after taking so much money from David."
Yvette was nervous, swallowing hard as she reached for Sylvia's phone, her fingers trembling slightly.
She nodded, her eyes filled with hope. "Okay, I'll try calling him now."
If this doctor was the breakthrough, she could finally reveal the truth to everyone. That would be amazing!
Yvette clutched the phone tightly, pressing it to her ear, holding her breath as she waited for the call to connect.
But all she heard was a mechanical female voice. "Sorry, the number you dialed is not available. Please redial later..."
Yvette was stunned. "Disconnected?"
Sylvia was also taken aback. "Disconnected? That's impossible! I just called him earlier, and it went through!"
Sylvia took the phone and tried dialing again, but it was indeed disconnected, just as Yvette had said.
Yvette's demeanor darkened, and she turned to Sylvia, asking softly, "Sylvia, is the doctor still at the event?"
"No, he left shortly after I got his number..." Sylvia suddenly remembered something, her eyes widening. "Could it be..."
Yvette suppressed the intense beating of her heart, finding a strange calm in her despair.
She lowered her gaze, a bitter smile forming on her lips. "You're right. The doctor and his number have probably been dealt with. David wouldn't let such a big loophole appear in front of us."
Sylvia was furious. "But how did he know we'd run into this doctor? And how did he deal with it so quickly?"
"This is Eldoria, David's territory. Someone must be watching. He probably didn't expect you to show up at the event. As for the speed..." Yvette exhaled slowly. "David's back in Eldoria."
Sylvia was shocked. "What? He's back in Eldoria? How do you know?"
Yvette replied, "I saw him."
Sylvia was incredulous, opening her mouth but unable to speak for a moment.
Yvette thought about what Ingrid had said at the party today, every word a humiliation.
She could endure all the rumors and slander against her, but the children were different—still young and innocent. As they grew older, they would understand everything.
Their background was spotless. They were conceived during her marriage to Albert, and she had never been involved with David. Why should her children be subjected to such gossip? Why should their origins be questioned?
"Yvette." Sylvia's voice broke through Yvette's thoughts. "The more cautious David is, the more likely he is to keep all the records and documents himself. Is it possible that the children's birth records are still with him?"
