Chapter 542 He Never Gave Up Looking for Her
The conference room was lit by cold fluorescent lights, casting a harsh glow on everyone's faces. The atmosphere was oppressive and tense.
Albert sat at one end of the long table, his expression dark and his gaze as hard as steel. His eyes were downcast, hiding the storm brewing within. His brows were furrowed, and his lips were pressed into a thin line, clearly struggling to keep his emotions in check.
Vincent, sitting nearby, occasionally glanced at Albert but didn't dare to look for too long.
The table was filled with the Valdemar Group's top executives, most of whom bore the Valdemar name. They wore expressions of hostility, each one looking as if they had been gravely wronged. They complained loudly, but none dared to directly accuse Albert.
"Albert..."
Albert's uncle, Jake Valdemar, was interrupted by a gentle tap on the shoulder from his assistant. Jake cleared his throat and changed his tone, "Mr. Valdemar, even if you don't care about your own reputation, you should consider the Valdemar Group."
"That's right! You represent the Valdemar Group. We're one of the top families in Luken. You can't jeopardize our future over a personal matter!"
"We're all in this together for the good of the Valdemar Group. We hope you'll consider everyone's opinions, Mr. Valdemar."
"Yes, don't let everyone lose their sense of belonging to the Valdemar Group."
Their words, though humble, were filled with threats and warnings, like a swarm of buzzing flies, irritating and unwelcome.
Albert's expression remained icy, a mocking smile playing on his lips. Their words meant nothing to him. The importance of Yvette to him couldn't be diminished by their complaints.
Albert leaned back in his chair, hands clasped, watching them with a calm demeanor. His sharp gaze swept over each person before returning to its cold indifference. He raised an eyebrow, "Are you done?"
The murmuring stopped instantly.
"If there are any issues with the project, bring them up now. This is your last chance."
Albert's casual tone contrasted with the dissatisfaction and panic on the others' faces. They had been so focused on impeaching Albert and Yvette that they hadn't even mentioned the project. If any issues arose that required Albert's intervention, his "last chance" warning would leave them in a precarious position.
Those who were sensible quickly shifted the conversation back to the project, and Albert provided the necessary assistance. The remaining dissenters, lacking support, didn't have the courage to continue their complaints.
Seeing Albert effortlessly quell the "rebellion" with a few words, his uncle Mario was the most disgruntled. He snorted but didn't dare to directly confront Albert.
Albert's gaze landed on Mario, his eyebrow raised, "Everyone's issues have been addressed. Uncle Mario, do you have any other concerns?"
Mario's face showed reluctance, but he refused to ask for help, saying, "How could I dare ask you for help? Everyone relies on you. If you fall, the Valdemar Group falls with you!"
The others exchanged glances, somewhat admiring Mario's audacity. Albert had made his stance clear, yet Mario still dared to challenge him.
Albert remained calm, glancing at his watch without a word, waiting silently.
Mario, thinking Albert was finally willing to listen, spoke arrogantly, "Albert, if you stay this stubborn and ignore your elders, don't blame us when public opinion crushes you!"
Albert didn't respond, so Mario continued, "That woman has bewitched you. Who knows her true intentions? She's faked her death multiple times. You know her father's background. Are you really willing to risk the entire Valdemar Group for her?"
As Mario finished, Vincent, standing behind Albert, leaned in and interrupted, "Mr. Valdemar, it's four o'clock. Time to pick up the kids."
"Alright." Albert stood up slowly, giving the room one last look, clearly unfazed by Mario's words. "Meeting adjourned."
Without a backward glance, Albert left the conference room, leaving Mario's face contorted with anger.
His children were more important than the Valdemar Group's high-level meeting?
Furious, Mario fumed, "One day, he'll pay for his arrogance!"
The others, too afraid to agree, quietly gathered their things and left the room.
At the hospital, Yvette sat on the bed, her face pale but clearly in better condition than before.
Doyle stood by the bed, holding a medical chart, his expression serious and focused. His demeanor made Yvette a bit nervous.
After a moment, Doyle looked up and asked, "How are you feeling?"
"I feel pretty good," Yvette replied, curious. "Better than when I was with the Hayes family. They even used some hormones and their special drugs."
"Seems my approach was correct," Doyle's tense demeanor relaxed slightly. "The previous treatments were too aggressive. When you stopped them, your body couldn't handle it and reacted badly. It's better to take it slow."
Yvette's eyes lowered, thinking of Clifford, whose condition was worse than hers. Felix and Gabrielle had likely tried the same aggressive treatments on him, with similarly poor results.
If Albert knew her situation, he'd probably be just as worried. But Doyle, as a doctor, could treat her in the best way possible. And it seemed to be working well.
"Your test results are still not great, but at least they're not getting worse," Doyle said. "Your spirits seem good. Are you feeling happy?"
"Yes," Yvette smiled, her tension easing. "I'm lucky to be alive, to be back with him and the kids."
They all knew who "he" referred to. Doyle's eyes softened, his stern demeanor replaced with a smile. "We're all relieved you're back."
Yvette looked at Doyle, puzzled. "Why?"
"He searched for you day and night, almost without rest," Doyle said softly. "You know how stubborn he is. He wouldn't listen to anyone."
Yvette's eyes lowered, hiding her emotions. "I'm grateful he didn't give up on me."
Doyle continued, "How could he? Even during those years when your fate was unknown, he never gave up on you."
