Chapter 178 She Will Be My Ex.
Yvette glared at Albert, disappointment written all over her face. Willard was Albert's uncle, the guy who was supposed to have his back no matter what. But Albert not only refused to help her, he even tried to stop David from stepping in.
"That's my mom, I have to save her," Yvette said, her voice shaking, "no matter what."
That pretty much confirmed Albert's suspicions. Albert's eyes turned a bit red, his cold stare clouded with gloom. He glanced at David's shirt on the sofa, the one Yvette had just taken off. He could still catch a whiff of her scent on it.
His eyes flashed dangerously as he grabbed the shirt. The high-end silk felt soft, but to Albert, it was like his hand was on fire.
"Yvette, do you even know what you're doing?" Albert's voice was rough.
"I know." Yvette nodded, locking eyes with him. "I'm asking for help."
Albert's chest heaved, his fists clenched, jaw tight, feeling helpless against her. He hated the idea of using this to force Yvette into anything, but that didn't mean others wouldn't.
Every time he thought of Yvette walking out in David's shirt, it felt like a hand was squeezing his heart, making it hard to breathe.
Albert let out a cold laugh, his eyes filled with despair. "Yvette, you really let me down."
Just then, Yvette's phone rang, an unknown number. Yvette jumped, realizing it was probably Willard. Ignoring Albert's fury, she grabbed her bag and rushed out.
Albert watched her leave, lowering his head in silence. A heavy aura surrounded him, his chest rising and falling. After a long time, he finally lifted his head and drove home.
He tossed his keys aside and stood by the big floor-to-ceiling window. Lighting a cigarette, the bitter taste filled his mouth. The red glow at his fingertips flickered as he squinted, his expression hidden by the smoke.
Later, the ashtray was full of cigarette butts. His phone rang; it was Willard. Albert paused, then answered.
Willard sounded relaxed. "I've seen the scans. It's risky, but I've done tougher surgeries. But Albert, your mother-in-law's having a complicated surgery and you're not at the hospital? You really trust my skills. Aren't you worried?"
Albert's lips curved downward as he took a deep drag and slowly exhaled. "She will be my ex."
Willard was taken aback, hesitating. When he spoke again, his tone was awkward. "So, should I still do the surgery?"
Albert closed his eyes, Yvette's helpless and pained expression flashing before him. His lips pressed into a thin line. He slowly exhaled, his brows furrowed tightly.
