Chapter 94 Embrace

Yvette was feeling really down.

She slowly lifted her head and glanced at the man beside her.

Albert, in dressed casually, had his hair slightly falling over his forehead, looking less aloof than usual. He stood tall and handsome, like a wall shielding her from the storm.

Oddly, looking at his smooth profile, Yvette felt a bit calmer.

But Lassie wasn’t ready to let it go. The moment she saw Albert, her eyes lit up. She wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, not caring how messy it looked.

"I didn't shake her, I just pulled her a little. Isn't it because she dodged? I definitely love my daughter..."

Albert stepped in front of Yvette, blocking Lassie from reaching her. So, she grabbed Albert's arm, smearing her tears on his clothes.

Albert frowned instinctively but said calmly, "She's pregnant now. If you're worried about Wayne's health, you should also care about hers."

Mentioning Wayne made Lassie cry again.

"I do care about her health. Last night she ran out in the middle of the night and I searched everywhere for her. I was so worried," Lassie cried. "Since she was little, we never let Yvette miss a meal and always made sure she went to school. After their father passed away, as a single woman, I couldn't support the family alone. I had to let Wayne drop out and work to support Yvette's education."

"Mom." Yvette was on the verge of collapsing. She tried to interrupt Lassie, but her voice was too weak to be heard.

Lassie ignored her and kept holding onto Albert's arm: "Wayne couldn't get into college, his education was too poor. All he could do was be a salesman. And what do salespeople rely on to make money? Business dinners, of course. Wayne had to drink a lot for his job. Yvette was good at studying, so Wayne practically gave his life to support her education. He drank so much that he got sick, and all the money went to Yvette's schooling. We missed the chance to buy a house when housing prices were low, so we had to keep living in that old, run-down house. Now his health is really bad, and he needs to move to a place with an elevator."

Lassie cried hard, clutching her chest, "Why is it that now Yvette doesn't want to help us buy a house?"

Lassie almost screamed, "We supported her all those years, and now that she's married, she's an outsider?"

Lassie's crying was always top-notch, and now with age, her skills had only improved.

The entire medical center echoed with Lassie's cries. Yvette stood there, unable to move. She could only lean tightly against Albert to keep from falling.

Lassie always knew how to embarrass her, making her feel utterly humiliated.

Albert frowned, clearly displeased with Lassie's words, "Mom, family matters should be discussed privately. This is Yvette's workplace, and she's pregnant. You shouldn't have come here so recklessly."

Albert's blunt words made Lassie look a bit embarrassed. Being spoken to like that by her son-in-law in public was indeed humiliating. But thinking carefully, his words seemed open to negotiation.

Thinking of this, Lassie felt pleased but kept crying, "Albert, I'm just too anxious. I didn't think it through. It's my fault."

Seeing her plan was working, Lassie didn't dare push them too hard.

She wiped her tears and said, "You're pregnant, don't run around. Either go home or go with Albert."

Albert noticed the growing crowd and lowered his voice, "I'll send you out."

Lassie nodded and followed Albert out of the medical center, as if nothing had happened.

But it had happened.

Colleagues around her started gossiping, and Yvette just wanted to find a place to hide.

At that moment, hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway, "Yvette, come to my office."

It was the head of the department.

Yvette stood in front of the head's desk, her hands nervously clasped together. She lowered her head, feeling utterly humiliated.

"Yvette, because it was your mother, the security didn't dare stop her," the head said sincerely. "The leadership is very satisfied with your performance. We've granted you leave when you asked for it because we value you. But it's best not to let family matters bother your work."

Yvette nodded, her lower lip turning white, "I'm sorry, it won't happen again."

The head looked at her with a hint of pity, "Alright, I know you didn't want this to happen. Just be careful in the future."

"Okay, thank you," Yvette's voice was hoarse.

"You can leave early today."

Yvette walked out of the head's office and hadn't turned the corner when she heard two colleagues chatting.

"Yvette always acts so high and mighty, but she comes from a family like that? It's so shocking."

"Yeah, did you hear what her mom said? She'll definitely have to support her mom, and Albert will have to help too. What a pity for Mr. Valdemar."

"Yeah, such a pity."

Yvette had always hated people talking behind her back, but today, she didn't even have the courage to stand up and refute them.

She only dared to come out slowly after those two colleagues walked away.

When she looked up, she met Albert's worried eyes.

He had come back.

Albert stood tall and straight at the end of the hallway.

Yvette was startled, standing there awkwardly, tugging at her clothes, feeling an overwhelming sense of shame.

She licked her dry lips, "Did she leave?"

"Yeah."

Yvette, "Why haven't you left?"

Albert looked at her intently, "Should I leave?"

Yvette was tired of this life.

Everyone thought she wasn't good enough for Albert. Even Albert believed she got pregnant to force him into marriage for his money.

"You should leave. We're not compatible at all."

Albert raised an eyebrow, "How do you know?"

Yvette's eyes were filled with complex emotions.

She looked up and said, "You saw it, right? I come from a family like that, so I love money. What's wrong with that? Without money, my life has no dignity. Who gives you the right to judge me? Have any of you lived like this..."

Yvette's words were suddenly cut off.

Albert extended his long arms and pulled her into his embrace.
