Chapter 431 Yvette is Discovered
The sound came out of nowhere, slicing through the silence of the room.
David tilted his head, listening closely. The noise was so brief he wondered if he'd imagined it.
A cold, ruthless glint appeared in David's eyes as if he had just realized something.
He quietly stepped out of the storage room, glancing around. His gaze finally settled on the wardrobe, its door slightly ajar, the dark gap seemingly inviting him in.
In an instant, David confirmed his suspicion: Yvette was back. His Adam's apple bobbed slightly as he took slow, deliberate steps toward the half-open wardrobe door.
What excuse would Yvette come up with to explain why she was suddenly in "Jessica's wardrobe"?
David's lips curled into a smirk. This was getting interesting.
He tiptoed to the wardrobe, and just as he reached out to open it, he heard the sound of a door opening behind him.
David froze and turned around, meeting Yvette's surprised eyes.
David frowned, almost instinctively reaching for the wardrobe door again.
Inside the half-open wardrobe, there were only clothes they hadn't taken back.
Yvette emerged from the bathroom.
David stared at her intently. "You're back?"
Yvette shook the water off her hands, her face expressionless. "Since I was in Eldoria, I thought I'd help BoBo and CiCi pack some of their favorite things."
David didn't respond, but the question in his eyes was clear.
Yvette knew he was wondering why she was in the master bedroom if she was just packing for the kids.
Yvette clenched the hem of her dress, the water from her hands soaking into the silk fabric, leaving a damp spot. "I also have some clothes and other things I can take, so I don't have to buy everything new."
Sunlight poured in, illuminating Yvette's face. She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her nervousness and trembling.
Hiding in the wardrobe, she listened so intently to the sounds outside that she accidentally bumped into a hanger, which made a crisp sound as it hit the wardrobe.
In that moment, Yvette's heart pounded like a drum, the rhythm growing faster and faster.
She knew she couldn't stay hidden in the wardrobe any longer.
Yvette made a quick decision, carefully slipping out of the wardrobe, not even closing the door completely.
She tried to steady her breathing, moving quietly toward the bathroom.
She turned on the faucet, the cold water cooling her slightly warm palms, helping her calm down a bit.
Yvette walked out of the bathroom, feigning calmness as she faced David.
She didn't want him to know she was back to gather evidence; it was too dangerous.
After hearing Yvette's explanation, David stared at her for a few seconds before suddenly smiling.
"Let me help you pack." David glanced at his watch. "It's still early; we should be able to get a lot done."
Yvette hesitated. "No need, you go do your thing. I can handle it myself."
"What do I have to do?" David said with a bitter smile. "Things at work are still on hold. Helping you pack will make it go faster."
Yvette's throat tightened, unsure how to refuse. If she was too firm and David sensed something was off, it would only make things harder for her later.
Yvette lowered her gaze. "Thank you."
Ingrid stormed back home, and Mabel immediately came to meet her.
"Ingrid, I gave you my card to go relax. Why are you even more upset?" Mabel pulled Ingrid to sit down. "If you're feeling better, come with me to apologize to Yvette, okay?"
"Apologize? In your dreams!" Ingrid's face turned red with anger. "I'll never apologize to Yvette! She embarrassed me again today!"
Mabel's face paled. "What are you talking about? Do you know Albert is already putting pressure on us? If you keep this up, our family will be in trouble!"
Just then, Mabel's phone rang. She glared at Ingrid before turning to answer it.
Ingrid sat on the couch, arms crossed, plotting her revenge. She had never been treated like this by a sales clerk before, and it was all Yvette's fault. As Ingrid stewed, Mabel returned, fuming.
Before Ingrid could react, Mabel slapped her across the face.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Ingrid looked at Mabel in shock.
"Did you cause trouble again? Albert's people warned you not to mess with anyone around Yvette. Messing with Yvette's people is like messing with Albert. Are you stupid, Ingrid? Do you want to lose this luxurious life? Do you need to be sent abroad to behave?" scolded Mabel.
Ingrid had always been the pampered one in the family, but because of Yvette, she had been humiliated and slapped twice!
Mabel had never hit her before, not even spoken harshly to her!
If Violet had been her sister-in-law, none of this would have happened! Her status in the Valdemar Family would have been more secure because of Albert and Violet's relationship!
Ingrid's pride was deeply wounded, her anger twisting her expression.
Ingrid gritted her teeth. "What's the point of living like this? It's disgusting!"
Ingrid sprang up from the couch and stormed out, ignoring Mabel's shouts behind her.
As she left, Ingrid's mind was filled with hatred for Yvette, who had ruined all her plans and humiliated her repeatedly!
Then, Ingrid remembered the look in David's eyes at the party. His resentment made her realize they were on the same side. Smirking, she headed to David's house.
Ingrid hurried to David's villa in Eldoria, standing at the door as she called him.
"David, are you home?" Ingrid asked, trying to catch her breath.
"Yes," David replied coolly. "What's up?"
Ingrid said, "David, why so cold? I'm here to help you. I..."
Before Ingrid could finish, she saw a familiar figure in the yard next door.
Yvette?
