Chapter 99 Yvette's Necklace
Hearing this, Victor doubted not just his memory but his hearing as well.
He clearly remembered the pendant had "YO" engraved inside. How did it turn into "VS"?
What went wrong?
Victor recalled the shop owner's words: any repair would damage the engraving, and it would need to be redone. Suddenly, he realized what happened.
Violet must have had the shop owner change "YO" to "VS" during the re-engraving.
Victor didn't expect his good intentions to backfire, making Albert even more convinced of the wrong information.
Thinking about this, Victor couldn't stay calm. He dropped everything and went to find Violet.
Violet's expression changed the moment she saw Victor. She turned away, pretending not to see him, and walked off, clearly avoiding him.
But Victor, with his long legs, quickly caught up. He grabbed her arm to make her stop and look at him, then let go.
"You saw me," Victor said.
Violet got angry instantly. "So what? Victor, are you still my friend? I haven't even asked why you told Albert those things, and now you're coming to me first?!"
"It's because you're both my friends that I think any misunderstanding should be cleared up ASAP," Victor said seriously.
"What misunderstanding? What are you trying to clear up?" Violet snapped back.
"His first love isn't you," Victor said, staring at her.
Violet had known this deep down for a long time but never admitted it. Victor's words forced her to face reality.
Instinctively, Violet grasped the pendant on her necklace, her fingers rubbing the letters.
It's "VS," she had to believe it was her.
Violet's body began to tremble. "It's me, he loves me, all the time!"
Yvette had just submitted some reports and was heading upstairs when she overheard the argument.
She didn't mean to eavesdrop but recognized Victor's voice.
"You changed the engraving on the necklace, didn't you?" Victor's voice was unusually loud. "My hearing's good, and my memory's not bad either. It said 'YO' back then. The necklace isn't yours, is it?"
Yvette paused, confused, and found herself listening.
Violet's voice came faintly, filled with resistance. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Victor was silent for a moment. "You should confess to Albert yourself. If he remembers later, what will he think of you? I've seen your relationship over the years; it wasn't fake. Do you want to destroy all your good memories together?"
Violet looked at Victor, tears welling up. "You're the one trying to destroy me, to destroy my memories with Albert! No matter what you say, you can'tbted not just his m deny our years together, you can't deny his love for me!"
Hearing Violet's strong denial, Victor's face grew even more serious.
Violet snapped, "Does it matter how we got together? The important thing is we fell in love and have been in love for years! Those memories can't just disappear!"
Victor pressed his lips together, unsure if it was the breakup with Albert that made her this way or if she had always been like this. But when she was with Albert, she was always so cheerful.
Victor sighed softly and stopped arguing.
"You seem so unfamiliar to me now."
Victor didn’t say anything else. As a friend, he had said all he needed to say.
Victor turned and left.
Watching Victor walk away, Violet felt like a defeated person, slowly bending over and shrinking her shoulders, exuding a sense of desolation and grievance.
She had watched Albert leave, and now even Victor, her friend, had left her. Violet felt the world was becoming increasingly cruel to her, as if everyone was abandoning her, leaving her alone and losing everything.
Colleagues were coming and going around her, and although no one heard their conversation, Violet knew she had to pull herself together.
She took a deep breath and was about to leave when a woman suddenly appeared in front of her.
Violet was startled; it was Yvette.
Yvette walked up to Violet without any expression and stopped.
Seeing Violet's defensive gaze and instinctive step back, Yvette smirked.
She also had a necklace engraved with "YO," but it had long been lost.
The day she discovered the lost necklace was the same day Yvette went to find Albert.
By the sink that day, Yvette mustered the courage to approach Albert but was hurt by his cold words. While she was feeling sad, a girl came over to comfort her.
Looking at Violet now, the two faces almost overlapped.
Yvette, feeling a surge of emotion, ignored Violet's defensive stance and immediately reached out to grab the necklace around her neck.
Violet's expression instantly turned to panic, and she instinctively reached out to block, but Yvette was faster.
With a strong pull, the necklace broke and fell into Yvette's hand.
"What are you doing!" Violet was shocked.
Yvette lowered her eyes, and the familiar pendant lay quietly in her palm.
Yvette stared at the necklace in shock. The necklace that had always been around her neck but had mysteriously disappeared was now on Violet.
Yvette had searched her home and school but never found it.
Yvette had thought it was fate, that she and Albert were meant to be apart, so even the last connection would be lost.
It took her a long time to accept losing the necklace because it also meant accepting that her relationship with Albert was over.
And now, the necklace had reappeared?
Yvette pressed her lips tightly together. The next second, Violet snatched the necklace back.
Yvette looked up, her expression understanding as she stared at Violet. She was expressionless and said nothing, but her gaze made Violet feel guilty.
Yvette's expression tightened, and she asked in a low voice, "Did Albert get with you because of this necklace?"
