Chapter 235 The End of the Banquet

Albert's words cut deep, and Yvette just looked down, not wanting to argue.

As they stepped out of the elevator, more people started to gather around. Yvette, worried others might overhear, lowered her voice and said, "Even if this is my fault, it's got nothing to do with you. I don't need your lectures."

Albert's face darkened, his eyes cold in the night.

"Nothing to do with me?" Albert scoffed. "You think you can reap the benefits of being my wife and behave like this without consequences?"

"Watch your mouth," Yvette muttered. "Everyone here is a Valdemar relative. Do you really want them to hear this?"

"Are you scared?" Albert stared at her, pressing on, "Afraid they'll find out what you and David have been up to? Afraid it'll lead to a divorce?"

Yvette replied, "There's nothing to hide about what happened between him and me."

"But you're terrified of divorce," Albert sneered, his tone mocking with a hint of bitterness. "Terrified of losing access to my money."

Yvette opened her mouth to snap back but, after a moment, just whispered, "I'm tired. I need to save some energy to deal with your family."

Yvette's dismissive tone was clear. Albert narrowed his eyes, about to say something, but Yvette had already walked past him, clearly done with the conversation.

She took a deep breath, trying not to get sucked into justifying herself. She quickened her pace and headed straight for the banquet hall.

Inside the banquet hall, the atmosphere was buzzing. The crystal chandelier overhead cast a dazzling light. In no time, Albert had caught up with her.

Walking side by side, Albert's tall and handsome figure and Yvette's graceful and charming presence drew a lot of attention.

Not far away, Cheryl followed everyone's gaze and, seeing Albert and Yvette together, her eyes lit up. She raised her hand, signaling them to come over and greet them.

Standing next to Cheryl was a middle-aged man, smiling at them. He must be Clarence Perez, the uncle David had mentioned.

As they approached Cheryl, they both greeted, "Good evening, Mrs. Valdemar."

Cheryl nodded, looking pleased with their current state. She pointed to Clarence beside her and said, "This is Albert, and his wife, Yvette."

Clarence smiled and nodded, his gaze shifting between Albert and Yvette several times, saying, "This is the first time I've seen Albert grown up. He really does look just like David. Yvette standing next to him, they do make a good match."

"Good evening, Uncle Clarence," Yvette said softly.

Just then, Mario and Bishop walked over. They looked Yvette up and down, a hint of disdain in their eyes.

When Albert wasn't around, Yvette often saw that look on their faces and had almost gotten used to it.

But in Albert's eyes, that look meant something else. His gaze darkened as he glanced at the two men, then he wrapped his arm around Yvette's slender waist, sending a clear warning.

Mario and Bishop exchanged a glance and quickly adjusted their expressions, saying, "Albert and Yvette seem to be getting closer. I even saw them dancing together today."

"Yeah, I didn't expect Albert and Yvette to be such good dancers."

They were trying to butter up Albert, but their words hit a nerve.

Albert's frown deepened.

Yvette's face showed a flicker of discomfort. She pressed her lips together and smiled gently, saying, "Not as good as you two."

Clarence's eyes lit up with appreciation. He said, "Seems like only a sweet girl like Yvette could win Albert's heart. I remember Albert being quite stubborn as a kid."

"He still is," Yvette said with a smile, "But as long as he's responsible and dependable, a bit of stubbornness is fine."

Albert stayed stone-faced, but the slight movement of his Adam's apple hinted at some emotional shift.

Albert nodded, watching Yvette's gentle and obedient demeanor as she chatted with the Valdemar family. The coldness in his deep eyes finally eased a bit.

By the time the banquet wrapped up, it was already late at night.

Cheryl had long since gone back to the Valdemar family home, but Albert, as the heir, stayed until the end. Yvette had wanted to leave early, but too many eyes were on them.

Since Albert stayed, as his wife, Yvette had to stay by his side.

Back in her room, Yvette changed out of her gown. The comfy casual clothes and slippers finally let her tense body relax.

After tidying up a bit, Yvette left the room, knowing someone would come to clean up and organize the clothes.

As she descended the stairs, the elevator doors opened, revealing a tall figure.

The familiar silhouette made Yvette pause.

'Was Albert waiting for her downstairs?' she was somewhat startled to think.

David turned around at the sound of the elevator, smiling warmly. He said, "The family driver has left. I'll take you home."

It was David.

Yvette was a bit surprised, saying, "If you take me back to the Valdemar family, you'll still have to drive yourself home. It's late. Don't trouble yourself. I'll find a ride."

"How could I let you go alone?" David ignored her protests and took her bag, saying, "Albert definitely won't go back to the estate. The family driver has already taken the guests home. It's not safe for you to go back alone this late. I'll take you."

With her bag taken, Yvette felt a bit empty inside. David was right; Albert didn't like going back to the Valdemar estate. After what happened tonight, their already strained relationship was even worse. He would be even less willing to return.

Her agreement with James, thus, signified a deadlock in their relationship, making any advancement challenging, and the day she could leave seemed far off.

Yvette nodded, about to agree, when a cold male voice suddenly interrupted, "That won't be necessary."

They turned to see Albert striding towards them.

Albert took Yvette's bag from David, barely lifting his eyelids as he said casually, "I'm going back to the Valdemar family tonight."

David frowned in displeasure, grumbling, "Albert, there's no need to do something you hate just to spite me. Don't take it out on Yvette later."

"Don't flatter yourself," Albert said, his face expressionless and his tone calm, but every word carried a hint of boastfulness. "It's her fertile time of the month. We need to go back and work on producing an heir."

David's face darkened immediately.
