Chapter 350 Struggle
Yvette was still in shock after witnessing the whole drama.
The more Yvette thought about it, the more confused she became. Back then, Albert took money to save Violet but didn't save her and the child. Wasn't it because they had agreed that once Albert divorced her, he would marry Violet?
What exactly happened between them? Why did Violet leave, and he didn't try to keep her? He even let her go with Rebecca's father?
All of this was beyond Yvette's expectations.
Could it be that Albert realized her importance only after she disappeared and then broke up with Violet?
But how could that be? If he truly realized her importance, how could he be indifferent when she was kidnapped? If he didn't care about her life or death, how could he care about her?
Various speculations floated in Yvette's mind. She bit her lip, forcing herself not to think about it.
Albert noticed something was wrong with Yvette and gently wrapped his arm around her waist, bringing them closer together. "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing," Yvette lowered her eyes. "Just I shouldn't be watching other people's family affairs."
"Stories like this are quite common in this circle," Albert said calmly, without much emotion. "Back then, when the Swift Group was on the verge of bankruptcy, Violet was always looking for help. She used her means to seduce Rodolfo, drove away his original wife, got pregnant, and married him."
Albert's words were full of insults, which Yvette found somewhat harsh.
He would actually describe Violet like that?
Yvette responded with an "oh" and didn't ask further.
"I made it clear to her a long time ago. There was never anything between us." Albert lowered his voice and said in Yvette's ear, "I belong to you alone."
Yvette's body stiffened, and she clenched her fists to hide her emotions. She deliberately changed the subject. "When does the auction start? I want to see what's being auctioned."
Albert knew she was deliberately avoiding the topic but didn't get angry. He just chuckled and said, "Just pick what you like."
As the auction dinner began, organizers invited the distinguished guests to take their seats. The venue quickly filled. The host then introduced the organizers, thanked the sponsors, and officially started the auction.
At first, a few sets of porcelain were auctioned, which Yvette immediately thought Cheryl would like.
But thinking about Cheryl's attempt to take away the two children, Yvette's heart immediately cooled, and she lost interest in those auction items.
When Yvette lowered her head, the host brought up a set of emerald bracelets, necklaces, and cabochon pieces.
Albert raised an eyebrow, thinking that this set of emerald jewelry would match the dress Yvette had chosen.
"Do you like it?" Albert asked.
The host announced the starting bid, thirty million dollars. Yvette was taken aback. "That's too expensive."
Albert smiled. "I'm asking if you like it."
Yvette didn't want Albert to spend so much money, so she shook her head.
Albert glanced at her and didn't ask further.
After a few rounds of bidding, the price reached fifty million dollars, and no one else bid. Yvette yawned, thinking the emerald jewelry was about to be sold.
At this moment, Albert leisurely raised his bidding paddle.
"Fifty-five million dollars."
After a few seconds of silence, the room was filled with whispers.
Yvette also looked at Albert in surprise. The emerald jewelry was beautiful, but she didn't understand emeralds and didn't want Albert to spend that money on her.
But with everyone's eyes on her, Yvette didn't say much.
The host announced, "Mr. Valdemar bids fifty-five million dollars!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a clear female voice rang out, "Fifty-six million dollars."
The host announced, "Mrs. Morgan bids fifty-six million dollars!"
Yvette turned around and met Violet's determined gaze.
Violet slowly lowered her paddle and turned to Rodolfo. "Rodolfo, I really like this set of emerald jewelry. I think it suits me. What do you think?"
Rodolfo didn't even frown. "If you say it suits you, then it definitely does. I told you, whatever you want today, no matter the price, I'll get it for you!"
Violet, holding Rodolfo's arm, said affectionately, "You're so good to me. I knew that being with you was the best decision I've ever made."
Rodolfo had heard flattering words for years, but Violet's words felt sincere to him.
He patted Violet's hand contentedly.
Violet touched her swollen belly. "The baby must also think that choosing you as a father is the best decision he's ever made."
In front of everyone, Rodolfo took Violet's hand and kissed her delicate hand. "I won't let you two down, my dear."
Everyone present could see that with Rodolfo around, Violet dared to bid.
The host announced, "Fifty-six million dollars, going once!"
"Fifty-six million dollars, going twice!"
Violet leaned on Rodolfo's shoulder, but her gaze remained on Albert and Yvette.
What she wanted most, Yvette had already gotten. So everything else, Violet wanted to take away!
"Fifty-eight million dollars," a deep voice rang out.
The room erupted as everyone turned towards the voice. Violet trembled, recognizing it immediately. Sure enough, Albert, calm and composed, had raised and then lowered his paddle.
Violet, who was about to take away the jewelry Yvette wanted, felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her.
Violet's eyes reddened, and seeing Albert and Yvette standing together once again deeply hurt her heart.
She clenched her fists and, gritting her teeth, raised her paddle again. "Sixty million dollars."
This time, not only the people present but even the host was shocked.
The host's voice trembled with excitement. "Mrs. Morgan bids sixty million dollars!"
The host excitedly called out the bid three times and raised the gavel, "Sixty million dollars..."
Before he could say "sold," Albert slowly raised his paddle again. "Sixty-five million dollars."
Everyone looked at each other in astonishment, not expecting Albert to compete with Violet for the emerald jewelry in such an intense manner.
At sixty million dollars, Violet was already struggling, not expecting Albert to spend so much for Yvette.
It was like that night when he spent thirty million dollars to save Yvette but wouldn't even spend a fraction of that to save her.
When he realized he had saved her by mistake, he even pushed her away.
Violet's eyes reddened, and she held back her emotions, turning to Rodolfo. "Rodolfo, although I really like this set of emerald jewelry, it's too expensive. Let's let someone else have it."
Rodolfo, seeing Violet's red eyes and hearing her coquettish tone, felt his heart itch. He thought she genuinely liked it but was reluctant to spend his money.
Rodolfo wasn't short of money and didn't mind spending it to make her smile. "It's just a few million dollars. Of course, I'll buy it for you."
Saying this, he raised his paddle for her. "Eighty million dollars."
Violet was satisfied with Rodolfo's action.
Although Rodolfo was older, he was willing to raise the bid to eighty million dollars to make her happy. Could Albert do that for Yvette?
Just as Violet was feeling pleased, she heard Albert's calm voice. "Ninety million dollars."
