Chapter 231 The Banquet

When they got back to the Valdemar place, it was already pitch dark.

Albert had driven like a maniac, and by the time David and Cheryl walked in, Yvette had just finished her bath and was heading downstairs.

Seeing Cheryl looking beat, Yvette walked over and said softly, "Grandma, if you're tired, you should go take a bath and rest."

"Okay."

Just as Cheryl was about to head upstairs, James and Lisa came down.

"Mom, you're finally back," James said, walking over. "Everything for tomorrow's banquet is ready, we just need Albert's signature. But when I called, I found out Albert went out with you!"

Cheryl frowned, "What do you mean I took Albert out? He came on his own."

"Mom, that's not what I meant. I was just saying I was looking for Albert," James explained. "Mom, Dad is dead, and you need to host tomorrow's banquet."

"I don't want to be part of your events," Cheryl said, her brow furrowed.

"But this is the first banquet since his death, and the first since Albert took over. Won't you come to show your support for Albert?" James urged. "Albert is capable, but he's still young, and the elders might not be willing to listen to him."

Cheryl finally glanced at Albert and said, "Okay. Albert, make sure the stylist makes Yvette look beautiful tomorrow."

Yvette was surprised. "Do I have to attend too?"

"Of course." Cheryl nodded and said, "You heard James talk about the importance of tomorrow's banquet. As Albert's wife, you should stand by his side and support him."

Yvette lowered her eyes. "I got it."

The banquet day arrived.

Yvette sat in the dressing room, facing a mirror surrounded by bright lights.

She watched herself transform from a bare face to a refined look, and for a moment, she hardly recognized herself.

The makeup artist looked at Yvette with satisfaction, praising her several times. "Mrs. Valdemar, your skin is amazing, and your facial proportions are perfect. With just a touch of makeup, you look absolutely stunning. No wonder Mr. Valdemar married you."

Yvette felt a bit embarrassed by her exaggerated tone, her cheeks slightly reddening. "Thank you."

The makeup artist made some final adjustments to Yvette's dress decorations, and the makeover was complete. Yvette pushed open the dressing room door and walked towards the banquet hall along the route she came.

The banquet hall was brightly lit, with the chandelier above shining brilliantly, and the entire decor exuded unparalleled elegance.

The Valdemar family members were all busy, and Yvette found herself alone, nervously clutching her dress.

As Yvette looked around for Cheryl, a delighted male voice came from behind, "Yvette!"

Yvette turned around to see David's glowing eyes.

Yvette was wearing a silver mermaid gown, which looked extremely sexy on her without being vulgar. The hem of the dress spread out on the floor, reflecting the glittering lights.

She stood gracefully, smiling calmly, with only her tightly clenched hands revealing a bit of nervousness. Yvette's long hair was loosely pinned up, with two curled strands hanging by her temples.

From the back, Yvette's dress left her back completely exposed, giving off an elegant yet bold vibe. She looked stunning and untouchable.

At that moment, Yvette was so captivating that no one could look away.

David stepped forward and stood in front of Yvette, his eyes filled with open admiration. "You look beautiful today."

Yvette blinked, her eyes soft and elegant. She smiled and subtly stepped back half a step, saying, "Really? That should please the Valdemar family."

David noticed her movement, his eyes darkening slightly. He wondered what Albert had said to Yvette yesterday to make her so guarded.

He pretended nothing had happened and chuckled. "Of course."

As they were talking, Yvette suddenly felt a tightness around her waist.

Albert's strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her gently into his embrace. In the next second, Yvette found herself in Albert's arms.

She was startled by the sudden action, but the familiar scent that followed told her it was Albert.

With many eyes on them, Yvette didn't lift her head and obediently leaned against Albert, though she discreetly used her waist muscles to keep some distance from him.

Albert's deep voice sounded. "Yvette, thank David for his compliment."

Yvette frowned, not daring to show it too obviously, and whispered, "Thank you."

David's face showed a hint of discomfort, saying, "I only compliment those who deserve it. Yvette, you are really beautiful today."

"Everyone can see that," Albert said coldly. "No need for you to emphasize it."

Albert and David locked eyes, and Yvette could almost feel the tension between them.

Just then, the music for the banquet began to play, signaling the start of the ball.

Yvette was about to take this opportunity to leave when David suddenly made a gentlemanly gesture, bending slightly and extending his hand to Yvette.

"May I have this dance?" said David.

Yvette was stunned, momentarily frozen in place. David bent over, looking at her with an unusually aggressive gaze.

Yvette felt a bit flustered by his expression.

The three of them stood at the edge of the dance floor, which was gradually filling with people as the ball was about to start. Everyone directed their attention towards them.

Yvette instinctively turned to look at Albert.

Albert's face was dark, but he quickly regained his composure.

Feeling Yvette's gaze, he looked down at her, his hand around her waist tightening slightly.

He pursed his lips and, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, asked in a low voice, "What? Do you want to accept?"

David, prepared for this, just smiled and said to Yvette, "Don't worry, Albert isn't that petty. He won't mind. It's just a dance."

Yvette blinked, looking up at Albert. For some reason, she instinctively asked, "Do you really mind?"

Albert's brows furrowed, but his expression remained calm, answering, "No."

Yvette felt like laughing. Albert, who had warned her to keep her distance from David just yesterday, was now generously allowing her to dance with him.

"Alright." Yvette nodded, placing her hand gently in David's outstretched palm as she said, "Let's go."
