Chapter 83 I Am Not Your Wife
Albert arrived at the medical center.
He had no flight to catch, nor did he need to renew any documents; he was simply here to find someone.
Albert frowned. Was it too much to invite Yvette to a gathering and come all this way?
But since everyone else would be bringing their wives, and she was his wife now, it was just about fitting in, nothing more.
The security guard at the medical center recognized Albert and warmly greeted him as he came in.
"Mr. Valdemar, the on-duty doctor isn't here today."
Albert replied calmly, "I'm looking for Dr. Orlando."
"Dr. Orlando?" The guard shook his head. "She isn't on duty today. You might want to find another doctor."
Albert responded with a slightly deeper voice. "I know."
After speaking, Albert added, "She's my wife."
Such a deliberate statement was earth-shattering news to the security guard. His eyes lit up, but out of respect for Albert's authority, he didn't show it too obviously.
The guard hesitated before finally saying, "Then please wait here, and I'll go find Dr. Orlando for you."
"Alright, thank you."
Albert was always polite yet distant. Today, his willingness to share personal information left the guard feeling honored. He quickly ran off to find Yvette.
"Dr. Orlando, someone is here to see you!"
Yvette was busy working and looked puzzled when she heard someone was looking for her.
At this time, she wasn't supposed to be on duty. Why would someone come looking for her?
Without stopping her work, Yvette turned to the guard and asked, "Who is it?"
"Your husband!" The guard's tone was excited but restrained. "Mr. Valdemar is here."
Yvette was caught off guard and didn't have time to respond before the guard asked again.
"Dr. Orlando, is Mr. Valdemar actually your husband? How come we didn't hear about a wedding? You've both kept this secret incredibly well!" The guard asked in amazement as he raised his eyebrow.
Yvette then realized that Albert must have said something to the guard, revealing their relationship.
Even though there had been an incident with Violet, the leadership intervention prevented it from spreading to the point that even the security and cleaning staff were aware. As a result, Yvette was able to continue her work as usual.
She pondered, 'What was Albert doing now?'
Yvette pressed her lips together and replied, "I'll go over, thank you."
Yvette saw Albert from a distance.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, and had an imposing presence that made him stand out in a crowd. His white shirt and black pants perfectly outlined his slender figure and narrow waist.
Probably sensing Yvette's gaze, Albert turned his head.
Their eyes met in the air. His cold, stern features softened slightly as he saw Yvette. He lifted his chin, his chiseled face showing no expression, but his deep eyes were fixed on Yvette's face.
Yvette instinctively looked away, clenching her fists, her expression unnatural.
At this time, the medical center was at its busiest, and many familiar faces from the center and the airport could appear at any moment. Seeing them would likely spark gossip.
Yvette looked around and, sure enough, saw people stopping to watch, probably already speculating about Albert and his estranged wife.
Yvette hesitated but realized that the longer Albert waited, the more attention they would attract, so she walked over.
Yvette stopped in front of Albert.
She took the initiative. "Why did you say such unnecessary things to others?"
"What unnecessary things did I say?" Albert's previously calm face showed emotion as he frowned in confusion.
"Why did you tell the guard I am your wife?"
Albert's face darkened slightly, and he asked in return, "Aren't you my wife?"
Yvette's chest heaved. His inexplicable actions in recent days had made her life increasingly out of control. She had always been a restrained and calm person, but he was making her feel agitated.
She had already prepared to withdraw her feelings and distance herself from Albert, but he kept disrupting the situation, making things more chaotic.
Yvette's lips curled into a smile, but her eyes and the corner of her mouth remained devoid of warmth.
"Regardless of whether I'm legally your wife, have you ever treated me as your wife?" Yvette's fists clenched tighter, and her expression became more strained, her voice calm but accusatory. "We got married without telling anyone, no rings, no wedding, and our families waited so long to meet. I haven't even met your friends. Are we a normal couple? What right do you have to tell others that I'm your wife?"
Yvette's voice was soft and gentle, but her words were powerful.
Albert opened his mouth but found himself unable to say anything. Yvette's questions and accusations echoed in his mind.
Seeing Albert at a loss for words, Yvette smiled self-deprecatingly. It seemed even Albert himself hadn't realized how little he cared about her.
Having said everything she wanted to say, Yvette found herself strangely calm.
All along, she had been the one suffering in this relationship.
Leaving Albert, the person who made her suffer, and these things that made her suffer would undoubtedly be the best decision she ever made.
Yvette exhaled slowly and said coldly, "Since our marriage is just for the child, let's not do anything unnecessary. I'm not your wife; I'm just the woman carrying your child, nothing more."
Yvette's calm demeanor from start to finish made Albert feel unfamiliar. There was a hint of confusion in his deep eyes.
He had never realized that Yvette could be so sharp-tongued.
Albert's jaw tightened as he looked at her with a complex expression.
Yvette didn't want to continue arguing with him at the center's entrance. She didn't want more people to know about their relationship or to be watched by everyone.
"Why did you come here?" She asked irritably.
Albert frowned, his gaze cold. "My friend is having a gathering and asked us to bring our spouses."
Yvette looked at him, puzzled. "Then why did you come to find me?"
Albert, repeatedly struck by her resolute words, finally couldn't suppress his anger.
The veins on Albert's forehead throbbed slightly, and he stared angrily at Yvette. Seeing her cold, expressionless face, Alber gritted his teeth and spoke again, his voice now filled with undisguised displeasure.
He retorted, "Yvette, we haven't divorced. Aren't you my spouse?"
