Chapter 316 Let Albert Let Go
David's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait, you want to take the kids and head back to Las Vegas with me?"
Yvette nodded. "Yeah."
David could hardly believe his ears. "You're not thinking about going back to Albert?"
"It's over between Albert and me."
From the moment he didn't save her and the kids, it was done.
Talking about the past, Yvette's eyes clouded over. "Before the accident and my amnesia, I was already planning to leave the Valdemar Family. Albert and I had actually filed for divorce."
Those painful memories came rushing back, and Yvette felt a pang in her chest. She suddenly realized that David not letting her return to Luken or remember her past was actually for her own good.
After a lifetime of chasing love and getting hurt, she was too scared to love again. She yearned for someone who loved her more, as loving others had become too exhausting. Maybe the accident, the amnesia, and becoming David's wife were all meant to be.
Even Virgil couldn't stand his unreciprocated efforts, so how could she not see it?
Maybe she should give herself and David a chance. To the kids, David was their dad, and he treated them well. Leaving Luken and going back to Las Vegas for a peaceful, loving life with the kids was all Yvette wanted now.
The deep gloom in David's eyes gradually faded. He was super excited and took two steps forward to hug Yvette. "Really? You really want to go back with me?"
Yvette felt a bit awkward with his sudden hug but forced herself not to pull away. "Yes."
Yvette's voice trembled slightly. "I'll go back with you and keep being Jessica. I like being Jessica."
"Yvette."
"Call me Jessica." Yvette made up her mind and said firmly, "There will be no more Yvette."
The latter part of their conversation was overheard by Cheryl, who was standing outside the door and hadn't had a chance to knock. The kids were downstairs, playing so hard they were drenched in sweat. Cheryl, doting as ever, went up to fetch fresh clothes and stumbled upon the scene.
The moment she saw Yvette, she recognized her. No disguise could hide those eyes.
She had known for a while that both grandsons liked Yvette and had decided to let them figure out their own feelings as long as they were happy.
But these kids were getting more and more outrageous, bringing the drama from TV shows into the Valdemar Family.
Especially recently, Albert had been acting strange ever since he saw Yvette.
The situation was more complicated than Cheryl had thought: two marriages and two kids. She frowned deeply and headed downstairs.
After Cheryl walked away silently, she spoke to the housekeeper beside her, a trusted servant who had been with her for over a decade.
Cheryl asked, "I shouldn't interfere in the kids' matters, right?"
The housekeeper said, "You are the elder of the entire Valdemar Family. If needed, you naturally have to take control of the big picture."
Cheryl slowly exhaled. "But both grandsons are my beloved juniors."
"You have always been able to make the right decisions decisively, haven't you?"
Cheryl pressed her lips together and fell into deep thought.
David turned around and started making arrangements to return to Las Vegas. Watching his happy back, Yvette felt a mix of emotions.Just then, there was a knock on the door. Yvette turned to see the two kids running towards them with big smiles.
Lester and Christina called out together, "Mommy, Daddy!"
Yvette squatted down with a smile and hugged them. "Did you have fun with great-grandma?"
"Yes!" Christina hugged Yvette's neck and kissed her cheek. "But we missed Mommy and Daddy a bit."
Cheryl followed the kids into the room. "The kids played so hard today that they're drenched in sweat and need to change clothes."
"Okay, thank you, Grandma." Yvette gave Cheryl a grateful look. "I'll change them."
Cheryl said, "You change the kids, and I'll borrow David for a moment. I have something to say to him."
Yvette glanced at David. "Okay."
Cheryl led David to the next room, her expression serious. "David, there are some things I need to say to you."
Seeing Cheryl's serious expression, David tensed up a bit. "What's wrong, Grandma?"
Cheryl frowned deeply, choosing her words carefully, and said in a low voice, "I have something to ask you."
"Go ahead."
Cheryl looked up and stared into David's eyes. "Was it you who saved Yvette back then?"
David was stunned for a moment, realizing that Cheryl knew everything.
He pressed his lips together and responded honestly, "Yes."
"You saved her and made her your wife, but did you ever think that she was Albert's wife?" Cheryl questioned sharply. "Did you ever think that you are Albert's brother!"
"Grandma, they had already filed for divorce by then." David's eyes turned cold. "Are you going to force me to give her up to him again?"
Cheryl was taken aback.
David's expression was restrained yet resentful. "Grandma, have you ever considered that, even though I'm only a few minutes older than Albert, I've always had to play the role of the older brother? From childhood to adulthood, he could mess around while I had to be the responsible one. I've always carried far more pressure than him. To gain the family's favor, I had to be the obedient, gentle child. You all expected me to give in to him!"
"David."
David became more agitated as he spoke, "But what's the point of giving in to him? No matter how much I do, you all will always like him more, only remembering what he likes and wants. And I had to live according to his preferences, not making any mistakes. Even Grandpa..."
David didn't continue, but Cheryl understood. Back then, when Albert left the Valdemar Family in rebellion after Sarah's death, Hayden still left the most shares to Albert.
All of this, he felt was unfair and aggrieved.
David's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. He wasn't as easygoing as usual but said firmly, "Grandma, I've given him everything, including the Valdemar Group's headquarters where I've worked for so many years. I only want the Las Vegas branch. But Yvette, I don't want to give her up, and I won't."
Cheryl felt a pang of guilt due to David's accusations.
David had been sensible since childhood, while Albert had more personality. They had indeed neglected him. David was only a few minutes older than Albert, but he was still just a child.
After a long pause, Cheryl sighed heavily. "I'm sorry, we neglected you."
Hearing the belated apology, David felt a mix of emotions. "Sorry, and then what? What can it make up for?"
Cheryl made up her mind and said solemnly, "I will make Albert let go."
