Chapter 204 Yvette in the Valdemar Villa
Raindrops fell heavily as the windshield wipers swiftly cleared them away, giving Albert a clearer view. No divorce papers today because Yvette was a no-show.
Albert stared ahead, his face blank, lips pressed tight, eyes full of mixed emotions. Then his phone rang. He hit a button on the steering wheel to answer.
James's voice came through. "You need to come to the Valdemar Villa."
Albert asked, "What's up?"
"Percy's here to handle your grandfather's inheritance. Since you have the most shares in the Valdemar Group, you need to come back and take charge." James made "take charge" sound so natural that Albert couldn't help but frown.
James went on, "If you don't come, we can't move forward. Everyone's waiting for you."
"Alright," Albert said. He hung up, turned the wheel, and headed to the Valdemar Villa.
He didn't care about those shares or the heir title. But the thought of annoying the Valdemar family made it a bit more bearable.
Albert got to the Valdemar Villa, tossed his car keys to the housekeeper, and walked in. As soon as he stepped inside, all eyes were on him, with a mix of expressions that Albert found pretty amusing.
Lisa rushed over. "Albert, you look really handsome today."
Albert sidestepped her without a word, heading straight for Percy. He glanced down at his casual, stylish shirt. He'd worn it once to meet Yvette, and she'd been all over him that day. Wearing it to divorce her felt like a weird kind of respect.
Lisa didn't seem bothered and just smiled, trailing behind him. The folks who usually sneered at Albert were all smiles today, though their eyes showed their true feelings.
Albert gave them a mocking smile. He walked up to Percy, who nodded politely. Percy said, "There are some documents to sign today, and the handover at the Valdemar Group. Mr. Hayden Valdemar's arranged for someone to help you with it."
"Okay." Albert nodded. His agreement set off a wave of whispers, the room buzzing with noise. There were still some dissenting voices, but they were quieter now.
"But Albert's never studied business. He's always been a pilot. Won't he be out of his depth with business stuff? He might need help with big decisions, right?"
"Yeah, this is about the Valdemar Group's survival. Hayden worked hard to build it up, so we need to be careful."
"Decisions can be made collectively, but as the heir, Albert has the final say. Shouldn't he learn the ropes and slowly delegate authority?"
Everyone was talking, clearly against it but trying to sound supportive. Albert gave them a cold glance, staying silent.
David, standing nearby, swallowed nervously, eyeing Albert with concern. Seeing Albert's silence, David thought he couldn't argue back, so he stepped up and said, "Don't worry, James and I will teach Albert. Since he's the heir and Hayden didn't want any proxies or transfers, it means he has the decision-making power, whether he gets it or not. No one can object."
James chimed in, "In all the years David and I have worked at the Valdemar Group, we've delivered results. As Albert's closest allies, we're committed to teaching him. So, no need to worry."
James's words were so confident that they left the others fuming but speechless. Albert found their performance pretty dull. He finally spoke, "Who said I don't understand anything?"
His deep voice and strong presence made everyone look at him in surprise. Bishop Valdemar frowned. "Reading a few business novels doesn't make you an expert. Albert, do you realize the weight of your responsibility? The Valdemar Group is a massive corporation, and its survival depends on you!"
"Maybe you've forgotten about my mother's family, the Martinez Group," Albert said calmly. "If anyone has connections, you might want to check out the company that's been rising under the Martinez Group in recent years."
Bishop was stunned. "It's you? So the Valdemar Group losing major projects one after another was your doing?"
"Who else?" Albert chuckled. "You should be grateful I'm taking over the Valdemar Group now."
Everyone exchanged glances, and the room buzzed with chatter.
Albert, with a faint smile, looked at the flushed faces around him. He stood there calmly, yet his presence alone struck fear into everyone.
David, standing nearby, looked at him in shock. When he was abroad, he always had trouble to deal with. Even when he returned home, he was still troubled. The last time he had to help Lassie transfer hospitals, he was forced to return to the company to deal with issues caused by that company under the Martinez Group.
Neither David nor the Valdemar family ever thought that the person behind it all was Albert. David's face turned pale, and he instinctively clenched his fists.
Albert raised his eyelids slightly. "Does anyone have any more questions?" The response to Albert was complete silence.
Albert smiled in satisfaction. As he casually looked up, he precisely met a pair of familiar eyes.
The owner of those eyes was standing in the upstairs hallway, their eyes full of complex emotions. Albert couldn't understand, but he felt a tightness in his chest. It was Yvette.
Albert's commanding presence instantly crumbled. He frowned and quickly went upstairs. Albert stood firmly in front of Yvette, his chest rising and falling, looking down at her.
"Yvette, why are you here?" Albert's Adam's apple bobbed, his voice hoarse and low. "Why didn't you go to City Hall?"
