Chapter 211 Yvette and James Signed the Agreement

Sylvia was quick to agree. Noticing Yvette was down, she started sharing some funny stories from the medical appraisal center to lighten the mood.

Sylvia kept chatting and laughing, which did help lift Yvette's spirits a bit. But Yvette didn't mention to Sylvia that she had gotten six hundred grand from James because of Lassie's trickery.

James, being a savvy businessman, wasn't going to let her get away with it that easily. After transferring the money to the card he gave Yvette, James suggested they sign an agreement.

He called the finance department, then hung up and gave Yvette a sharp look. His stern face kinda reminded her of Albert. James said, "The funds will arrive soon. Shouldn't you make me a promise?"

Yvette blinked, playing innocent. "What promise?"

"I'm not a charity, and I don't particularly like you. I'm not spending this money just to make your marriage with Albert happy," James said, putting down his fork and leaning back. "We'll sign an agreement. As long as you use the money for your mom's treatment, you have to meet all my conditions."

Yvette pressed her lips together. "You mean you want me to stay married to Albert and have a kid with him, right?"

"Exactly. If you have a kid, I won't ask for the money back," James said, crossing his arms. "But if you change your mind and want a divorce or refuse to have a kid, you have to return all the money."

Yvette's throat tightened, and her palms got sweaty. Negotiating with James was stressful. His shrewd demeanor made Yvette extra cautious. She looked up and confirmed, "So, as long as I don't get a divorce, you'll keep funding my mom's treatment. And if I have a kid with Albert, you won't ask for the money back, right?"

"Yes."

"Okay," Yvette agreed. Maybe because of his business instincts, James immediately called in a lawyer to draft the agreement on the spot.

Yvette read it several times, looking for any clause about a deadline to have a kid with Albert. But after several readings, it seemed James hadn't set a time limit. This meant if Yvette wanted to delay or was willing to return the money, she could avoid having a kid.

Gritting her teeth, Yvette signed her name at the bottom right corner of the agreement.

As she walked out of the restaurant, the last bit of daylight faded from the sky. Streetlights started to flicker on.

Yvette decided to let go of everything related to the Orlando family, stop obsessing over Albert and the Valdemar family. With a loan secured to study abroad, she finally felt some relief as her long-tense heart started to ease.

Feeling a bit tired, Yvette turned to Sylvia and said, "Sylvia, thanks."

"No problem," Sylvia replied, turning back. "Yvette, be safe while studying abroad. From now on, live a happy life focused on yourself."

Looking into Sylvia's bright eyes, Yvette felt like they reflected the streetlights, shining right into her guarded heart.

Yvette nodded and leaned in for a hug. This moment of friendship made Yvette's eyes well up, but a smile tugged at her lips.

On the way back to the Valdemar Villa, Yvette turned on her phone and saw a bunch of missed calls from Lassie. She coldly turned off her phone. As she pushed open the door, she unexpectedly met a pair of cold eyes. Albert was there.

Yvette paused, standing still. Since moving in, this was the first time she had seen Albert at home, except for that one time when the whole Valdemar family was present. She was a bit surprised and felt a pang of anxiety. 'Did James really persuade Albert to come back so quickly?'

Yvette panicked a little; she wasn't ready to share a bed with Albert yet. At that moment, David stood up with a warm smile and walked over to Yvette. "Yvette!"

Yvette snapped out of it and forced a smile at David. "Yes, why are you back?"

"We came back to discuss something with James," David said, his smile not reaching his eyes. "Sorry, I've been busy with work lately and haven't had a chance to ask you, how is Lassie doing?"

At the mention of Lassie, Yvette instinctively glanced at Albert. Albert still looked at her coldly. Hearing Lassie's name, he smiled mockingly.

Yvette said vaguely, "She's fine."

"That's good," David replied.

Just then, a servant called down from the second floor, "Mr. David Valdemar, Mr. James Valdemar wishes to speak with you."

"Alright." David nodded and turned to Yvette. "I'll go up first. You can talk with Albert."

A trace of awkwardness flashed across Yvette's face, but David ignored it and went upstairs. What Yvette didn't see was that the moment David turned away, his warm smile vanished instantly.

Now, the entire living room was just Albert and Yvette. Albert sat coldly on the sofa, arms crossed, his right hand tapping rhythmically on his arm.

Yvette knew this was a sign of his impatience. Reflecting on the turmoil caused by Lassie's fake illness, the refusal to get a divorce certificate, and moving into the Valdemar Villa, Yvette knew she had seriously crossed Albert's line.

A wave of guilt washed over her, and Yvette pressed her lips together and asked softly, "Have you been busy lately?"

Albert's calm face stiffened, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared. Albert coldly responded, "Are you concerned about whether I've received my inheritance?"

Hearing his sharp question, Yvette instinctively lowered her eyes. She knew that the more she talked to him, the more it would provoke Albert's resentment. So she chose to remain silent.

But Yvette's silence made Albert think she was admitting it. The thought of Yvette and Lassie conspiring to fake an illness made Albert feel nothing but disgust. His expression grew increasingly impatient, and his gaze was full of loathing. He sneered, "Even if I get it, it has nothing to do with you."
