Chapter 145 If You Want a Divorce, Be Decisive
Albert's words were like a pebble in a calm pond, causing ripples.
Yvette was stunned, her brows furrowed, feeling uneasy. "We won't have any more kids."
She looked at him with tired eyes full of determination.
Albert's heart sank, remembering what Lassie had said.
Yvette had recently lost a child, and it had taken a toll on her. He needed to understand her feelings.
Albert decided not to push it. "I'll take you home."
His sudden kindness made Yvette uncomfortable.
She took a deep breath and said firmly, "Don't talk about kids anymore. We're getting divorced. No kids, no future."
Yvette clenched her fists. "Albert, if you're going to divorce, be decisive."
Albert's chest tightened. "Yvette, do you really want to leave me that much?"
"Yes," she replied without hesitation.
Albert's throat tightened. After a moment, he said hoarsely, "I'll take you home."
In the afternoon, Yvette got her check-up results. The doctor said she hadn't recovered well and needed more rest.
She thought she was fine, but her body told a different story.
Leaving the hospital, she planned to go home but ran into Sissy.
They both tried to avoid eye contact, but Sissy stopped. "Yvette."
Yvette turned back, puzzled. "Do you need something?"
"Yes," Sissy said with a not-so-friendly smile. "Did your family buy a house yet?"
"A house?" Yvette was confused. "What do you mean?"
"Don't play dumb," Sissy's smile faded. "You and your mom are just after Albert's money. If you need money for a house, just ask him. Albert's unlucky to have married you instead of Violet."
Yvette was shocked. Lassie had mentioned buying a house before.
Her face turned pale, but she retorted, "If you love meddling so much, maybe you should be a cop. Being a flight attendant is a waste of your talent."
She gripped her bag and hurried away, more like fleeing.
Yvette thought, 'Lassie really asked Albert for money again.'
She felt like she'd been hit in the head, struggling to breathe.
Yvette rushed home and burst through the door.
Lassie was scrubbing the floor. Seeing Yvette storm in, she said, "Who ticked you off this time? You've been so moody. Everyone's been busting their butts for you, so tone it down."
"Tone it down?" Yvette walked up to Lassie, looking down at her. "Who exactly should tone it down?"
Yvette usually kept her cool. She was stubborn but silently endured.
Lassie had a hunch about what had ticked Yvette off.
Feeling guilty, Lassie pretended to scrub harder. "What did I do now?"
"Looks like you know exactly what you did." Yvette sneered, snatching the cloth from Lassie and tossing it aside. "Did you ask Albert for money again?"
Lassie blinked, playing dumb. "What are you talking about?"
Yvette raised her voice, "Did you ask Albert for money or not?"
"No need to get angry," Lassie picked up the cloth and scrubbed a small tile repeatedly. "I just mentioned the house, and he gave it to me himself. I even promised it was a loan and that I'd pay it back."
"He gave it to you himself?" Yvette sneered. "Does Albert have so much money to give away? How much did he give?"
Lassie cleared her throat. "Not much."
"How much exactly?"
"Really, just forty thousand dollars. If you don't believe me, I'll show you the transfer record."
Lassie thought she could hide the previous sixty thousand dollars by only showing Yvette the forty thousand dollar transfer.
Yvette was half-convinced. "Then return the money to him right now!"
"I can't return it now. I've already paid the deposit for the house. If I don't pay the down payment, I won't get the deposit back." Lassie kept scrubbing the same tile. "I said I'd pay him back later, so don't worry."
"Of course, it has to be returned." Yvette gave her a cold look. "Once I get the money from the Valdemar family after the divorce, I'll pay back the forty grand plus the hundred grand worth of gifts."
Lassie panicked. "Why are you talking about divorce again?"
Yvette looked at Lassie with disappointment and left the house.
When Albert heard Yvette had come to see him, a flash of joy appeared in his eyes.
He stood up, instinctively straightening his shirt, as Yvette walked in.
She had slightly blushed cheeks and was out of breath, clearly in a hurry.
Seeing her running towards him, Albert's heart stirred, reminded of the old days when she would always run to him with a bright smile.
Albert's confidence back then came from sensing her obvious preference and her determination not to leave him.
He walked up to her and asked softly, "Did you get all the test results?"
His voice was low and gentle, trying to be the caring man she needed.
Yvette stood in front of him, her chest heaving, breathing heavily.
Albert looked at her with bright eyes, quietly waiting for her response.
But then she asked coldly, "Did my mom ask you for money?"
Albert was stunned, not expecting that. He pressed his lips together and stayed silent.
Yvette took a moment. "Sorry, once we're divorced and I get the money, I'll pay you back immediately."
Albert was hurt by her clear boundaries. He frowned slightly, holding back. "Yvette, does spending my money make you this miserable?"
Yvette looked up and answered, "Yes."
