Chapter 471 Yvette Trapped in the Fire

Violet's words hit Yvette like a thunderbolt.

Her trembling body suddenly froze completely.

Yvette's lips parted slightly, her hands clutching the hem of her shirt so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

She looked paper-thin in that moment, as if a mere breeze could knock her down and tear her apart.

It took a long while before Yvette finally came to her senses.

She stared at the illuminated phone screen in utter shock. "What did you just say?"

Violet sneered at Yvette's bewilderment. "Surprised? You thought he spent thirty million dollars to save me? No, it was all because of your so-called kindness—you put your coat over my shoulders."

Yvette's pupils dilated as the truth dawned on her. She had been blinded by her emotions all along, unable to see the reality.

Albert had intended to pay thirty million to save her, but those shortsighted kidnappers had simply identified the coat and taken Violet, who was wearing it, instead.

Her hatred had been nothing but a cruel joke from the beginning.

Yvette realized her mistake.

She should have shown him the photos that proved BoBo and CiCi were his. But because of a single misunderstanding—she'd misread Albert's relationship with Violet—she locked the photos away in her safe, never letting him see them.

Even if it killed her, she had to make sure Albert knew the truth, and that BoBo and CiCi knew the man they called "Daddy" was truly their biological father!

She had to escape, to return to her children, to Albert.

She needed to tell him how much she loved him!

Yvette took a deep breath and spoke with forced composure: "Violet, what's the point of attacking me like this? You're only making Albert hate you more!"

As she spoke, Yvette carefully worked at the ropes binding her wrists.

But whoever had tied her knew what they were doing—the knots wouldn't budge.

"Yes! He does hate me! I could stand naked in front of him, and he'd just grab me by the hair and throw me to the ground like trash!" Violet's voice broke. "I gave him everything, and all I got in return was his cruelty."

"You—" Before Yvette could finish, the man from earlier strode up to her.

He snatched the phone from in front of Yvette. "Everything's ready."

Violet laughed coldly and gave her merciless command, "Burn it."

Those two casually spoken words sent chills down Yvette's spine.

The oil lamp's light suddenly seemed terrifying.

The man tossed the lamp onto a pile of flammable debris. With the crisp sound of shattering glass, sparks flew as the lamp oil and flame exploded into life.

The oil-soaked materials caught fire instantly. Flames leapt upward, dancing wildly, their red glow illuminating the entire room.

The fire ate up everything it touched, spreading relentlessly, always hungry for more. In the silent night, the flames howled like untamed beasts, consuming everything in their wake.

The men left laughing, locking Yvette and Clifford inside. The room was quickly engulfed in fire and thick smoke.

The air filled with an unbearable scorched smell. The fire grew stronger, transforming the room into a blazing inferno.

Night gusts swept through broken doors and windows, whipping the flames into an even greater frenzy.

Yvette broke down.

She didn't want to die here. She wanted to go home to BoBo and CiCi, to see Albert, to raise the child growing inside her.

The black smoke loomed like a grotesque demon, terrifyingly ominous.

As oxygen depleted, Yvette's consciousness began to fade.

Just then, she thought she heard someone desperately calling her name.

Yvette's lips curved slightly. Could it be him?

If Albert was willing to pay thirty million dollars to save her, surely he wouldn't let her burn to death, would he?

"Wake up! Don't sleep! You have to hold on!"

Yvette's eyes, which had been slowly closing, flew open at the sound of that voice.

She forced them open with effort and realized Clifford had somehow freed himself from his bonds and made it to her side.

"Don't move. Be careful. I'll get these ropes off you."

Clifford held a charred piece of wood, its end glowing red from the heat.

This burning wood was just what he needed to burn through the ropes binding Yvette.

Wild flames writhed beneath the night sky, licking at the ceiling in open defiance of the darkness. The whole room had become an ocean of fire.

In the next moment, Yvette felt herself being freed from the ropes.

She was saved!

Clifford coughed continuously as he removed his shirt and covered Yvette's nose and mouth, supporting her weakened body as they ran for the exit.

Yvette's will to survive was equally strong. She bit her lip hard, determined to follow Clifford out of the inferno.

All around, wild flames surged, their light dancing across the man's steadfast features. Though his eyes burned with resolve, his hands moved with a surprising tenderness.

Suddenly, a wooden beam crashed down from above, heading straight for them.

"Look out!" Clifford roared.

Without hesitation, Clifford shoved Yvette away, pushing her to safety.

Yvette fell to the ground and watched in horror as Clifford was struck by the beam and collapsed into the searing flames.

"Mr. Hayes!" Yvette lunged toward Clifford, desperately trying to push the heavy beam off him.

But it was too heavy, and she was too weak. Despite her efforts, the beam didn't move an inch.

Clifford gritted his teeth and pushed Yvette away. "Go! Now!"

In the president's office of the Valdemar Group, Albert stared at the familiar number on his phone screen.

He tried calling, again and again, but each time with the same result—no answer.

Albert called the housekeeper, who said she had taken the children to preschool and hadn't returned since.

Albert frowned and dialed one of Yvette's bodyguards.

"Where is she?"

The bodyguard replied, "Mr. Valdemar, Mrs. Valdemar just dropped the children off at preschool."

Albert detected something off in the bodyguard's tone. "And now?"

"Uh..." The bodyguard hesitated before answering, "She met with Mr. Hayes, then they walked into an alley and disappeared."

His voice grew quieter, "We were just about to report this to you."

"Impossible." Albert's expression darkened as he shot up from his chair. "Find her immediately! She could be in danger!"
