Chapter 187 This isn’t over
Originally feeling hopeless, Yvette stared at the back blocking her way. She finally let out the breath she’d been holding. Her body swayed, and her hands, which had been propping her up, finally gave out.
She wobbled, about to hit the ground. But instead of the cold, hard floor, she found herself in a warm embrace. Recognizing the familiar scent, Yvette instinctively snuggled closer.
Albert stiffened, then wrapped his arm around her waist.
Todd scrambled up and charged at Albert, but Sissy quickly stopped him. Todd, annoyed, shouted, "Why are you stopping me?!"
Sissy, pale and avoiding Albert's gaze, said nothing. Albert's eyes were cold as he looked at Sissy. "Sissy, care to explain?"
Sissy forced a smile. "Mr. Valdemar, you misunderstood. Yvette wasn’t feeling well, so I asked my friend to take her home. It’s safer with a guy around."
Todd, confused, asked, "Wait, you know each other?"
"Yes," Sissy replied, giving Todd a hard look. "This is Yvette's husband, so stay out of it."
Todd was stunned. "She has a husband? Then why did you..."
Sissy quickly cut him off, "Alright, I'll cover your drinks tonight. This has nothing to do with you, go have a drink!"
Todd glanced at Albert again, realized it wasn’t worth it, and left. Sissy laughed awkwardly. "Since you're here, I'll leave Yvette to you. I'm out."
As she turned to leave, Albert's cold voice stopped her. "Wait."
Sissy stiffened, turning back with a confused look. "What’s wrong?"
Albert’s lips parted slightly. "Tell me the truth, or I'll have the police check the surveillance."
Sissy’s expression changed. She hadn’t drugged Yvette herself, but she’d called Todd over, and it was her idea. If the police got involved, Todd would definitely rat her out. Things would get messy.
Sissy took a deep breath and apologized, "I'm sorry. My friend was being foolish. He thought Yvette was pretty and wanted to have some fun. I'll deal with him later, don’t be mad."
"What if I hadn’t seen it?" Albert’s words were casual, but Sissy heard the threat.
Sissy forced a smile, explaining, "Nothing would have happened. Didn’t I say he’d take her home?"
Albert smirked. "And what about the drugs in her system?"
Sissy pretended not to understand, looking closer at Yvette. "He did drug her a bit. They like to have fun. It’ll wear off."
Albert raised an eyebrow. "Why don’t you try it then?"
"No need," Sissy said, her face stiffening.
Albert sneered, his expression turning cold again. He glanced at the half-conscious Yvette. "This isn’t over."
Holding Yvette, Albert stormed out of the bar, his face dark. He thought, 'Thank God I show up tonight. If I hadn’t, who knows what could’ve happened? '
Just thinking about that creep almost getting his hands on Yvette made Albert’s blood boil. People on the street took one look at his grim expression and quickly stepped aside.
He gently placed Yvette in the back seat, hit the gas, and sped home. On the way, his phone rang. It was Victor.
Victor sounded annoyed. "Where’d you go? You vanished in a blink."
Albert glanced at Yvette in the rearview mirror, his face still dark. Yvette was clutching her chest, looking uncomfortable, lying in the back seat with a frown.
Albert’s voice was deep. "Yvette got drugged. I’m taking her home."
Victor was stunned. "Seriously?"
"Yeah, seriously."
Victor was silent for a moment, then said, "Take good care of..."
Before Victor could finish, he suddenly shouted, "Sylvia!"
Albert asked, "You saw Sylvia?"
Victor replied, "Yeah, she’s here. Looks like she’s searching for someone. Maybe Yvette?"
Albert responded calmly, "Tell Sylvia I took Yvette."
"Got it."
After hanging up, Albert planned to drive straight home. But halfway there, Yvette started getting restless.
"I just feel awful," Yvette murmured, her body squirming in the back seat.
Albert frowned, watching her through the rearview mirror. He wanted to keep driving, but seeing Yvette almost falling off the seat, his concern won over his rationality.
The road was empty. Seeing no cars around, Albert turned onto a side road.
With the car lights on, he stopped, got out, and checked on Yvette in the back seat. Her face was flushed, eyes half-closed, looking dazed. Seeing Albert, she instinctively reached out, her soft hand landing on his face.
Albert was stunned, frowning as he tried to keep his cool. He called her name softly, "Yvette, wake up."
Hearing her name, Yvette slowly opened her eyes, but her vision was blurry. She couldn’t see clearly, but the deep voice, familiar scent, and gentle hand on her waist made her feel safe. Her discomfort made her seek comfort.
Yvette leaned forward, trying to hug Albert. As her soft body pressed against him, Albert stiffened. It had been so long since he held her that he felt awkward and nervous.
Yvette clung to him, groaning, "I feel so bad."
Albert’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, and he muttered, "Now you know what it’s like to feel bad, huh?"
"Yes."
Albert’s throat was dry. "Yvette, weren’t you always so... traditional?"
