Chapter 641 The Children Sleep with Beatrice Tonight
On the other end of the phone, Cheryl's voice was clear, continuously reaching Albert's ears.
Albert's expression was somewhat strained. He seemed to be listening to the call casually while occasionally glancing at Yvette beside him.
Yvette stood facing Albert, the ocean breeze whipping around them loudly. She kept checking on BoBo and CiCi, unable to make out what Cheryl was saying through the video call.
She had no idea what Cheryl was telling Albert, so she watched him in silence, her eyes filled with worry and curiosity. Her gaze remained fixed on Albert, trying to read his expression for clues about the conversation.
Seeing Albert's awkward expression, Yvette took a couple of steps closer.
That's when she caught Cheryl's voice. "Did you hear me, Albert?"
Albert noticed Yvette approaching and his face tensed slightly. He looked away and replied nonchalantly, "I heard you."
Though Yvette couldn't make out the specifics, she could sense the embarrassment in Albert's tone—a complete contrast to his confrontational attitude when he'd first called to demand answers.
Yvette pressed her lips together and finally couldn't help asking, "What's going on?"
Albert was clearly uncomfortable and shook his head slightly, signaling to Yvette that it was nothing.
Apparently, Cheryl heard Yvette's voice through the phone. "Is that Yvette? Is Yvette there with you?"
Hearing Cheryl mention her name, Yvette quickly responded, "Yes, Grandmother, I'm right here."
"Well then, you heard what I was just saying. While you're on vacation and Beatrice is there, you two should—"
"Grandmother," Albert suddenly interrupted Cheryl with a stern voice, "we need to go spend time with BoBo and CiCi. Please hang up."
"Hang up? I still have things to say to Yvette." Cheryl's voice rose. "Yvette!"
Yvette instinctively reached for the phone in Albert's hand, wanting to talk to Cheryl, but Albert caught her outstretched hand in his.
Yvette's fingers curled slightly in his palm before relaxing, and she stopped reaching for the phone.
Albert held that soft, delicate hand firmly in his grasp and ended the video call decisively.
Yvette looked surprised and said worriedly after a moment, "That's going to make Grandmother angry."
Albert seemed unconcerned. "She won't be. I should be grateful I'm not the one who's angry."
"You're not angry?" Yvette asked.
Albert pressed his lips together. He had been angry initially, but Cheryl's methods did have some merit.
"No," Albert said quietly.
"That's good." Yvette nodded and tried to comfort him. "Don't be upset. Grandmother probably just worried that we might not be able to handle BoBo and CiCi on our own, so she sent Beatrice to help us."
"I know." Albert reached up to stroke her hair, his expression already softening.
Yvette was somewhat surprised, wondering what Cheryl had said to change his attitude so quickly.
Just then, BoBo and CiCi, who were halfway through building their sandcastle, called out loudly, "Daddy, Mommy, come here! We're almost finished!"
"Coming!" Albert and Yvette called back.
Still holding hands, they started walking back toward the children when Albert's phone rang again.
He looked down to see another video call from Cheryl. Remembering their previous conversation, Albert frowned and declined the call immediately.
If Yvette found out Cheryl's real intentions, she'd probably be on guard against him.
Yvette turned back to look at him. "What's wrong? Is Grandmother calling you again?"
"Yes." Albert stopped walking. "You go ahead and spend time with BoBo and CiCi. I'll handle this."
"Make sure you speak nicely to Grandmother," Yvette said.
"I will."
Just as Albert was about to call Cheryl back, she sent him a text message.
Cheryl: [Why aren't you answering the video call? I want to see the children.]
Albert's lips thinned as he replied calmly: [You can only see the children. Don't say anything else.]
Cheryl: [Fine, you brat.]
Albert ignored the last part and called her back.
When the video connected, Cheryl's enlarged face appeared on the screen. "Albert, I'll keep my word. I won't say anything else to Yvette. I just want to see the children."
Before Cheryl had even finished speaking, Albert had already turned the phone toward the beach.
In the frame, BoBo and CiCi were playing on the sand in their adorable swimwear. In front of them stood a tall sandcastle with distinctive features that actually resembled a real building.
The moment Cheryl saw the two children's cute faces, her eyes lit up immediately. She stared intently at the screen, afraid to miss a single detail.
Cheryl waved at the camera. "BoBo, CiCi, are you having fun on your trip?"
"Yes, Great-Grandmother!" CiCi pointed proudly at the sand pile in front of them. "This is the sandcastle BoBo and I built together. Isn't it amazing?"
Cheryl's delighted laughter came through the video call. "Absolutely amazing!"
BoBo said earnestly, "Great-Grandmother, why didn't you come with Ms. Grace to play with us?"
A flash of surprise crossed Cheryl's eyes, then she smiled with hidden meaning. "BoBo, you want me to come play with you?"
"Yes!"
CiCi also smiled sweetly. "I want you to come too, Great-Grandmother!"
"My sweet darlings!" Cheryl sighed meaningfully. "You want me to come, but some people don't."
"Who doesn't want you to come?" CiCi looked confused. "BoBo and I both want you to!"
In the frame, the two children leaned against each other, their big eyes staring at Cheryl on the screen.
Looking at those two adorable little faces, Cheryl's heart melted. "Next time I'll go on a trip with you, okay? This time, just play with Daddy, Mommy, and Beatrice. Be good tonight, alright?"
"Okay, Great-Grandmother!" BoBo and CiCi said in unison.
Seeing how well-behaved the children were, Yvette reached up to stroke their hair. She was about to invite Cheryl to join them with a laugh when she heard Cheryl continue speaking to the children with a smile. "BoBo, CiCi, Beatrice is a little afraid of the dark!"
CiCi looked surprised. "Really?"
"Yes!" Cheryl smiled kindly. "Would you sleep with Beatrice tonight to keep her company?"
